SPIRITUAL LIFE, Part 4

We do not move unless we “feel” like it, being totally dependent on impulse and impromptu movement of the soul’s mood cycle. We feel so much until we cannot think and conversely, think so much that we cannot feel. This is not to be confused with true spirituality for it is merely soulish behavior with spiritual overtones, most of which remains theatrical. It is also possible to become spiritually imbalanced for in error we can focus obsessively in any direction. Thank God for grace in ignorance, 1 Tim 1:13-14.

 It is abundantly clear when the fragmented soul has mastery in the life continuum for we are then governed according to feelings or, allow the intellect an inordinate place of prominent affection. Of equal distinction are the body beautiful types who spend most of their time in physical sculpting resulting in ostentatious display of flesh and form. We become exceedingly intellectual or bound exclusively to emotional or physical stimulus. 

Inherent in the dysfunctional dance is display of the mind in flamboyant intellect, body fitness in erotica, or overly stimulated emotions with profuse laughter, rage, melancholy or tears. All require an audience and are seated in the theater of the flesh. (Having experienced all aspects of life’s soulical malaise, I am humbly and abundantly qualified to expose them.)

All indicate imbalance, are equally unattractive and worthy of prayer and deliverance. (At this point I’m sure that I have offended everyone but it is not intended. Unfortunately, there is no time to weigh such matters for there is much work to do.) Also of distinction are the obsessively spiritual who seem incapable of having a normal conversation, but burst into speaking of tongues or rebuking of devils.  Yes, we love Jesus but it is his love that is worthy of worship.

 At core is a misunderstanding of the instructions of Christ, an overdeveloped soul life and an underdeveloped spirit. This may be through no fault of the Believer for outward display is encouraged and inner growth ignored as we copy people instead of Christ. Deep calls to deep, spirit communicates with spirit and flesh impacts flesh.

 The dynamic interconnection of the spirit is not made to the soul, nor is it linked to the body. Communion is made with like substance. The spirit of man engages the Spirit of God. God is spirit and weighs matters at the level of the spirit as to its intrinsic worth.  John 4:23-24   Here’s the message, love somebody and treat them right.

Without communion with the Lord the spirit is anemic, undernourished and weak. Consequently we remain soulish, experiencing life on the level of emotions, will and intellect. Most people remain unaware of any alternative level of existence. This elevated soul life is possible even after going through the rudiments of salvation for extra thrust is needed to develop spirit life into maturity.  We remain babes in Christ when by far we should have left this state of infancy. Our glory is in the soulish region of men for we have forgotten that it is God who gives the increase.

An intensely deep penetration of the Cross is required for all who have super-sized, highly developed soul lives and the attendant ego, and this applies to most of us. But it is an act of submission for we are only pierced as our request is made known unto God. All these things are inherent in the name of Jesus for he subdues and they all bow to him, whether spirit or natural. Someone must take time to teach on developing the spirit. This is one of my assignments. I am qualified for Christ has made me so.

Beloved, too many carnal Christians never reach any measurable level of spiritual growth. This is sad but brutal truth. We cannot fulfill destiny with an overdeveloped personality and an underdeveloped spirit as the Believer’s journey is toward eternal life and flesh and blood cannot inherit this realm. Too many wounded, twisted spirits in the world say they represent Christ. I am aware of this for I was one of them. Beloved, this is why Christianity has such limited appeal. Jesus is supposed to heal us but if we fail to submit, he is misrepresented as unattractive and limited when in fact he is beautiful and the total package.  Seek the Kingdom first...
