Barbara Smith-Nwankwo was born and raised in a small city in Arkansas, known as Pine Bluff. Her remarkable and amazing story begins in a little, brown, wooden-framed, vacuous shack that she and her siblings happily considered home, which was also located on the corner of Thirteenth Street. This was truly the foundation of where it all began; where her astounding mother, Levarn Smith (whom is legally blind) not only managed to raise Barbara and her nine other siblings, but also implanted the sound Gospel of Jesus Christ and his wondrous-working power in each of their lives. Barbara witnessed and experienced this power at a very young age and was often teased and mocked, by class mates, because of such.

She began her singing right at home, along the side of her eldest sisters, Patricia and Phyllis. Often times (when their meal barrel would get low) she, her mother, and the others would find themselves praying and singing until something miraculous would happen. It was at times like these that she inspirationally wrote and revised many songs like “There’s not a friend like Jesus” and “Can’t nobody do me like the good Lord can”.

Over the course of time and under the advisement or consultation of her mother, Barbara soon developed a quartet group with Patricia, Phyllis, and Michael (the third eldest brother). They were infamously known as The Sander Sisters and Little Michael. They traveled many places, singing and testifying about God’s goodness. They even engaged in professional recordings and were sure to be included on any locally given singing program. Nevertheless, as time progressed, each of their lives altered. Barbara soon married and had twin girls, and the others started families as well. “Little Michael” and Phyllis were no longer apart of the group; instead, it was now only Barbara and Patricia. Despite all that had taken place, these ladies didn’t let the anointing that was on their lives cease; instead, they pressed on, singing even more so. They healed and encouraged many individuals through their anointed singing.

Now with the advancement of time, little did Barbara know that the group would face one other obstacle or trial. This would be one that was sure to hit harder than ever before; Patricia would become critically ill, and it would affect every bit of her health. During this transition, Barbara’s walk and relationship with God was becoming flawless. She was laying aside every weight and anything that was hindering her from reaching perfection. She repented and even began to testify about the many hypocrisies of the so called “church folk”, especially those that were singing, many of which were even living false lives. In fact, Barbara revealed that just like many of them, she too had been a hypocrite: singing about how God was able to deliver people when she didn’t even believe it herself. Sadly, the book of Revelations was not only being fulfilled on others, but her as well. Barbara realized that God was calling her not only to be saved, but delivered. With this in mind and at heart, Barbara was well on her way to redeeming herself. She later submitted herself under the spiritual leadership and guidance of her youngest brother, the dynamic Apostle C.L. Smith and soon began to take the Gospel industry by force, releasing great hits like the well known “Jesus There’s No One Else Like You”.

Barbara now continues her soul-stimulating singing, all in hopes of it reviving the very heart of man, for truly she found God’s grace and mercy to be sufficient for all. Scripture says, that he wishes that none should perish, but all men be called to repentance. “Let us therefore hear the whole conclusion of the matter; that men should fear God and keep his commandments.” (Ecclesiastics 12:13)

New Book: Coming Soon! To be Released in October 2009."Manifestations of His Glory" is about hearing God's voice in a noisy world. It is a testimonial of spiritual encounters with the Lord. You will be blessed as we go "deeper" into the heart of the Lord...Wow! The bible says "the steps of the righteous are ordered by the Lord." Do you want to go deeper into the heart of God...you will have to let the Holy Spirit take control of your life, your every day actions, your steps, your spiritual walk and you need to love God's people...Amen!

Today's Promise from the Bible Job 11:6
And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that [they are] double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee [less] than thine iniquity [deserveth].

Reflection

How fortunate are we who have embraced the cross by faith! The mercy of the Lord is ever on our side. Through flood and fire, the mercy of the Maker of Heaven will make our road safe—neither righteous wrath nor villainous treachery shall stay our path, for the Lord has made it sure against such opposition. Rejoice that your way to heaven is guarded, O believer!
