- The thirst for knowledge and excellence is and has always been one not easily quenched for Elder George Fishburne Jr. Never satisfied with mediocrity, his quest for the aforementioned has guided him through careers in counseling, case management, and law enforcement. His newest ministry and career pursuit is one that has simmered beneath the surface of his life for countless years. You may now call him author.
A passionate reader, writer, and public speaker, Elder Fishburne has since reconciled that his gift of transforming the abstract thought into a tangible and meaningful story is most certainly a gift for the ages that must be shared. Elder Fishburne’s commitment to begin and hold fast to his calling in the discipline of writing has been manifested in the form of his book, A Higher Calling: Serving God, His Leaders and His People With Excellence, he has successfully merged spirituality with practical life experiences bathed in humility. Additionally, he has also penned its companion piece, A Higher Calling: Serving God, His Leaders and His People With Excellence Guide and Workbook.
Born and reared in the Liberty City community of Miami, Florida, Elder Fishburne learned at an early age the value of discipline and education. He faithfully matriculated and earned his Bachelors Degree in English at Florida Memorial University. While there, his peers and fellow students elected him to lead them as Student Government President. Convinced that equity and opportunity should be available to all, he also served as President of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s (NAACP) Student Chapter also at Florida Memorial. Still unfazed by the many accolades or accomplishments, Elder Fishburne presently continues to labor vigorously and will secure his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Central Michigan University during the summer of 2009. It is noteworthy that Elder Fishburne is also a student at Luther Rice Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia where he is enrolled in a dual degree program in pursuit of Masters of Apologetics and Divinity Degrees, respectively.
Elder Fishburne’s career path began as a substance abuse and diversion professional with Miami Dade County’s Department of Human Services, an endeavor that lasted over sixteen years. His subsequent stints as a Case Manager in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and a Deputy Marshal in Fulton County, Georgia proved to be experiences that further expanded his reservoir of life experiences. Currently, he labors as an Investigator for the State of Georgia.
Prior to relocating to Atlanta, Elder Fishburne diligently served Bishop Victor T. Curry of the New Birth Baptist Church Cathedral of Faith International for over 22 years as his armor-bearer, senior adjutant, personal assistant, and confidant. He has faithfully served hundreds of ministers, intellectuals, gospel artists, professional athletes, and elected officials, to include Bishop Eddie L. Long, Winnie Mandela, Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Bishop Paul S. Morton, the late Dr. Edward Victor Hill, Dr. Marvin Sapp, Virtue, Donald Lawrence, Bishop Neil C. Ellis, Byron Cage, Pastor Jacqueline McCullough, Bishop TD Jakes, Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu, and Reverend Clay Evans. As one of the ministry’s eighteen founding members, he played a pivotal role in New Birth’s numerical growth and spiritual development. As creator and the first director of New Birth’s Ministry of Social Concerns and the not for profit social services arm of the church, The Vision To Victory Human Services Corporation.
Additionally, his acclaim as both a relationship counselor and vocalist has served him well. Despite his busy schedule, Elder Fishburne has also served as a regular guest chaplain for the National Basketball Association’s Miami Heat. It is noteworthy that for over a decade, he also labored as an on air personality and talk show host with the church owned gospel radio station, AM 1490 WMBM located in Miami, Florida.

Thanks for the acceptance. I look forward to building a relationship with you that will help me to continue to advance the Kingdom. I'm currently reading your book A Higher Calling. Once I finish or perhaps before I finish, I would like to receive some further basic and practical strategies that have helped you along the way. I not trying to re-invent the wheel.
