Pastor Michael Smith was born on the beautiful island of Jamaica. He migrated to the United States when he was 4 years old. His adolescent and formative years were spent in the Norwalk SDA Church in Connecticut. His gifts of leadership and service, and subsequent call to ministry were very apparent at a young age. He was baptized at 14 years-old at an Evangelistic Tent Meeting under Evangelist Raymond Saunders, affectionately known as “Big Thunder”. In the church setting, he was elected to serve as a Deacon at 16 years-old [ordained at 19 years-old] and has, over the years, served in many offices in the church, even as an Assistant Pastor.
After graduating from High School in 1995, he enlisted in the US Navy and traveled the world. His travels brought him to Rota & Barcelona, Spain; Rome, Naples, and Brindisi, Italy; Cairo, Egypt; Corfu, Greece; Palermo, Sicily; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and The Straits of Gibraltar in the Mediterranean Sea. He served aboard the USS Wasp (LHD 1); an amphibious assault carrier. While on board, still sensing his call to ministry, he served as a Chaplain’s Assistant. It was while serving in this capacity of ministry that Pastor Smith was ordained to Gospel Ministry by the Non-Denominational Christian Church, an Ecclesiastically Endorsed Church of the US Armed Forces.
After completing his 1st military service in the US Navy, he decided to accept God’s call to academic preparation for Seventh-day Adventist Ministry and relocated to Huntsville, AL to attend Oakwood University where he majored in Ministerial Theology. While at Oakwood he served and was ordained as an Elder at the Oakwood University SDA Church by Dr. John S. Nixon, Sr. He also served the Madison Mission SDA Church in the same capacity a few years later; there he was mentored by Dr. James Doggette, Sr. He received his Commissioned Minister’s License from the Southern Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists while serving as a full-time Colporteur. On September 1, 2001, he reenlisted in the Alabama Army National Guard serving as a Military Police Officer.
He completed his studies at Oakwood University before accepting a call to California where he served as a Bible Worker/Speaker in an area-wide evangelistic crusade with renowned Pastor/Evangelist E. Lonnie Melashenko, former Director/Speaker of the Voice of Prophecy. Over 125+ souls were baptized as a result of a team effort with several dozen workers spread across Los Angeles County. Pastor Smith has traveled all over the USA preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His engagements have brought him to Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Long Island, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, California, Ohio, Florida, and Jamaica.
In 2008 Pastor Smith again received a call to Secondary Education where he served as School Counselor and Chaplain for the Highland Rim Christian Academy in Tullahoma, TN. In 2010, Pastor Smith served again as a Bible Worker in Mobile, AL where 6 souls were baptized as a result of his ministry. As a Full-time Literature Evangelist with South Central Conference, he served as the Family Health Education Service (FHES) Field Coordinator for the Huntsville, AL area. His office was housed on the campus of Oakwood University’s Literature Evangelism Training Center (OU-LETC) where he assisted in the training of Student LE’s and Bible Workers. Prior to his recent move to Ohio, Smith briefly served as Assistant Pastor of the Mount Calvary SDA Church in Daytona Beach, FL until May 2012.
He currently resides in Cleveland, OH where he serves as a Community Care Chaplain. He is a member of the Chaplains Association of Ohio.
