And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living. Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

What do we do when we are already caught up in something ungodly? How do we get out of…….works of foolishness?

How do we get out of …..the works of unforgiveness. How do we get out of …..the works of anger, or hatred, or addiction, or gang activity, or lying.

How…..do we get out of the works of foolishness? In order to get out of foolish works, we must first see what is the meaning of a fool.

The Bible tells us in Ps 14:1 <<To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.>> The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. And then we see this repeated in Ps 53:1 as it says <<To the chief Musician upon Mahalath, Maschil, A Psalm of David.>> The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good. So here we see that a fool says in his heart……or a fool believes that there is no God and that their works are no good. A fool does works of foolishness or works of……..iniquity. Iniquity is most generally defined as a bent away from God, in other words, iniquity is that something that tends to bend or turn us away from God and what God has called us to do. It’s that something that makes us say “God we are fine up to this point…..but at this point, even though you are calling me to do it one way…..I’m going to do it ……another way.”

When we look deeper into this “bent away from God” we notice a few things, one thing is that ultimately this bent is due to our own selfishness which was passed down to us by Adam, and we know that through Adam all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, which further lets us know that this “bent away from God” is something that all of us have. We all have a bent in us, somewhere. We also know that where there is a bent, there is crookedness. It is naturally impossible for something that has a bent or bend in it, to be strait, so that crookedness that is in each one of us, causes us to do…..crooked things.

We already know that Adam and the woman had partaken of the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and let us note that the name of the tree is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil…..not the action of good and evil, not the speaking of good and evil……it is the knowledge of good and evil which lets us know that this tree will give them some knowledge of some things, that God does not want them to know. This lets us know that the forbidden thing that will be exposed to all humanity is something that will be on the inside and not the outside. The corruption will deal with the thoughts and manifest themselves through our actions on those thoughts. So we see Adam and the woman, covering their nakedness, and hiding from God’s Word. The Word of God leads to works of God. We also see in our text that God gives what is called the proto evangelium which means “the first Gospel” in verse 15. Some of us have missed this in the past because it sounds foolish and I must submit that every now and then in order to get out of our own foolishness, we need to listen to and obey….the foolishness of God

1COR 1:18-29

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.

There is…..an importance in the work of preaching….if God thought it was so important that He took it upon Himself to do it first…..and then directly pass it down to man as a specific work to do, then it must be important to God……and what does it say about us, what does it say about our faith on and in God and what does it tell God about us and what we think about God when we want the preacher….to do something else, and put preaching in a secondary, or low priority. How does it look to God when people say that they love God, and here is something that God deemed to be so important that He did it first himself , but people show that it is really not that important in how unimportant they treat the work of the man of God to some it is not even considered to be…..work. Preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ has power to give us faith. The Bible tells us that faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God, and how can they hear without a preacher, and how can a preacher preach lest he be sent. The Word of God brings a saving faith. Now don’t get me wrong all of the saints are called to share the Gospel and one of the ways that we as saints are equipped to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ is through our Spiritual Gifts. However there is also a specific call to individuals to preach the Word of God or what we call the Gospel Ministry and even with the specific call to preach, and all preachers have a different way of preaching.

God made each of us unique and with that,

God has different gifts,

for different works,

for communication of the same Gospel,

in different ways,

to different people,

in different situations.

And God has gifted you, and with His gift, God has a unique work for you. In Adam‘s case……In Gen. 2:19-20 We find that one of his works, was to name the things of God‘s creation, but as we know….Adam fell. How many times have we fallen when God has given us something to do. How many times have we gone left, when God says go right or we’ve said it’s a bad day, when God said it’s a good day or we’ve blessed somebody out, when God said Bless the Lord….at all times. In the midst of our mess God is still calling us to Him because we are worth something. When Adam heard the word of God, Adam was afraid, which lets us know that he had an emotional reaction, do our emotional reactions bend us away from God. When Adam heard the Word of God and said that he was afraid because he was naked we see that his rationalizing, that his reasoning, that his mental reaction, that his new knowledge, bent him away from God. Does our thinking bend us away from God. When Adam heard and was afraid because he was naked he ended up hiding, which lets us know that because there is something already crooked in us and we start following crooked information from crooked emotions which lead to crooked reasoning, which leads to crooked action and we end up hiding. But yet while we are hiding, God is still calling out to us, while we were yet sinners, God showed His love for us in this, while we were doing our thing, God sent a Word. We must remember that God is a just God so there are consequences for our disobedience. God shows us that in order to get out of our disobedience we need to know about the one who is the way, the truth, and the life. We need to know about the one who is the seed of the woman, the one who bruised the head of that old serpent, the one who’s heel got bruised, that while we were yet sinners, God sent one….who was tempted at all sides….but yet without sin, and God just’s asks us to do the first work of faith, or what Jesus calls in John 6:29 the work of God.

We see Adam doing the work of God in verse 20 of our text and we might say all he did was change her name, however upon further review, we find that Adam changed her name to Eve. The name Eve, means mother of all living. God already let them know that the Messiah was coming and that the Messiah was coming through the woman. By Adam being on the earth before the crucifixion then Adam is looking forward to the coming Messiah, and His work on the cross. Whereas in our case, we are looking back at the work already done on the cross. That is to say that Adam shows his faith in the Word of God by agreeing that the life giver, the quickening spirit, will come from the mother of all living. Remember, one of the works that God assigned to Adam was to name the creations of God, now we see this work as a work of faith. So what is your work of faith? What names do you need to change? What situations do you need to change? What actions do you need to change? What is your work of faith? It took a work of faith to get you from where you used to be to get you where you are now and we know that on this journey there were times when the world said that it was impossible for us to get here! Through works of faith the power of God is seen, and the power of God is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. So if it is of God, then the work has to lead to the introduction or revelation of Jesus Christ. We find that after Adam shows His faith, God clothed them with coats of skin, God covered them with the skins of something that was living.

They were covered by something that God did, they were covered by something that was sacrificed, they were covered by something without sin, they were covered by the first of animals, and there was a man, who is more than a man. Who is 100%God, but yet 100% man. This man, was the first amongst many brethren. He was born by the seed of a woman, in other words, He was born of a virgin. He lived a perfect life, in other words He was without sin. He gave His life, on the cross, that we might be saved. The first Adam, was given life, but Jesus the second Adam, is the life giver. Adam was covered by the shedding of blood but the blood of Jesus was shed to cover us. Are you under cover, of His blood? If you are then through His Holy Spirit, it’s time to work out your salvation in fear and trembling and work your gifts. Work…..the works of faith.

Don’t worry…..what they enemy has thrown at you…..

Don’t worry about the situations that got you down……

Don’t worry about those weapons formed against you because you are under cover. Remember that greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world because you are under cover. That we can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens us, because we’re under cover.

We might have a bent…..but the blood of Jesus lets us do some strait things.

The world might say that it‘s impossible for a crooked person to do strait things but I just wanted to let you know that you can, when you get under cover.

Let your life preach for you, let your actions preach for you. Stand on the word of God, stand on the works of God, and stand under the covering of the blood shed on the cross by Jesus Christ

Get under His cover.

Do the work of Faith!

May God Comfort, Strengthen and Encourage You,

We get called by God to share the Gospel somewhere or to go witness to somebody, help this homeless person over here, or help that addict over there, or that person struggling with their walk or we might get called to minister to someone that is sick or who might be in grief or in a suicidal condition, and all the sudden here comes somebody telling you that they got something more important for you to do, they say “ Oh it’s not that important that you do that now, or they will be alright, or every body goes through stuff like that then they say it’s not really…..necessary”

God has a funny way of sending us to minister to people who suffer from the same things that we have suffered from and sometimes minister to people who suffer from the same thing that we currently suffer, so that not only will we be a blessing to someone, but also that someone will be a blessing to us and reconfirm to us that God is still in control and God….still has something for you to do and let us know that, Yes……..it is necessary.

God will remind us that not too long ago we were in those same situations and it took somebody to take the time to do what God told them to do and minister to us or else we would be dead so we should be thankful to God that somebody was being obedient….to God, and for us, it was necessary.

Folks try to get us sidetracked, the God of this world wants take our focus from what is necessary…….and dwell on what is secondary.

In our text we have an account of Adam and the woman ( we must keep in mind that at this point, Adam has not yet named her Eve), and in the text we see that the woman is approached by the serpent, she is deceived by the serpent then takes a bite of fruit that God said not to eat and then she proceeds to give to Adam for him to eat (also note that the text does not say that Adam was deceived or tricked into this by the woman) in other words Adam did this knowingly, but we must remember that although Adam prior to Adam doing this that Adam did not know sin. After this they hid themselves amongst the trees. We see a crooked action, coming from a crooked understanding, from a crooked word. A crooked action, from a crooked understanding, from a crooked word……..crooked things……..We know that the god of this world is a deceiver and let me clarify, the god of this world, and the God of all creation are different, and the god of this world is still doing his job….and I have found that the same deception that he was doing back then is the same thing that he is doing today. Just like Adam and the woman back then, we start out walking how God wants us to walk, but then we end up hiding out amongst the trees. We get caught up by some crooked things, and end up being caught up in, some crooked things yet God is still asking……”Where art thou?”

There’s somebody that should be preaching and yet God is asking “Where art thou? There’s someone that should be singing ….and yet God is asking……where art thou? Where art thou, when you are called to teach?

Where art thou, when you are called to serve? Where art thou, when you are called to worship?

Many times when we examine the portion of scripture about the deception of the woman we have a tendency to look at when the woman added to the word of God in verse 3, however upon further review we find that what we are looking at is actually the result of her already being deceived. We find that the deception has already taken place. If we look at God’s instruction to Adam but for the woman as well, we find that God said in Genesis Chpt.2:16-17 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. Now that’s what God said but look at what the serpent asks the woman, Ge 3:1 reads “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” Notice the serpent had questioned the eating of all the trees in the garden, not just the one tree. We notice that God named a specific tree, but the serpent just said every tree, and we might say big deal, however, what the serpent did by bringing into question all of the trees and not specifying the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was that by not acknowledging that that tree has a special name implies that this tree does not have a special designation which further implies that this tree does not have a special purpose, which further implies that this tree did not come with a special command and that this special command did not come from….a special God……..in other words by not setting apart this tree from the rest of the trees implies that all of the trees are the same…….but we know that…..one of these trees….is not like the other, but that’s what the god of this world wants you to think. He wants you to think that all these things are the same, that all people are the same, that all preachers are the same, .that all ministries are the same, that all churches are the same. The tempter says oh prayer is not needed, christian relationship is not needed, worship is not needed, praise is not needed, and the word of God is not needed. He says see everybody else has rules of a god and not relationship with God, he says see everybody else is doing church this way. He’s saying church is only a hobby that it’s only what you do cause your parents did it that its only something you do in your spare time.

Just like in the garden then we are still being told today that the word of God is unnecessary. We are told it is not needed, we are told it is just like any other book, but some of these things are not like the other. The need in the garden was obedience to the word of God. The need in the garden was for the woman to be able to stand on the command of God. Because the woman got sidetracked on God’s command, The woman got to looking at needless things, and how many times have we gotten caught up in needless things?

You know what I’m talking about, things that are really wants, but we want them so bad that we make them needs. We get so bad with this that we try to get God to cosign on our wants without dealing with our needs and we start praying to God about what we want instead of praying to Him about what we need. We start replacing our needs with our wants and when we start doing that then eventually our needs will not be taken care of.

We will be stuck with nothing from a bunch of…..needless things.

This also lets us know as it shows in the text that the best thing to do is to follow the word of God by properly understanding what God said, what God meant by what He said, and how God wants us to apply His Word to our lives so that we wont stray on needless things. Don’t get me wrong, I know that sometimes God will allow things that are unpleasant to happen in our life for our good. I know that God will allow us to mess up at times in order to teach us a lesson. He will allow things bad to happen to get us back on track with Him. But this is not necessarily….needless….things…..so God saw fit for the women to get caught in what might seem needless so that through her the Savior Jesus Christ may come. God finds things necessary in some things that seem needless. God saw it necessary to take care of our needs, if you feel that you need to overcome some needless things in your life then first of all see what God might be doing with those needless things, to make sure that you get to the necessary things of God. Jesus says in Mt 6:30-34 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

As a Global Christian Leader, has there ever been a time in your service to God, that things did not happen the way that you’ve planned them?

Have you ever had a time when you were so frustrated as to what was going on that you wanted to throw in the towel because everything seemed to be going in the opposite direction of what you intended?

As a Global Christian Leader, I have had this happen many times over, only to find out at the end of the day that the things that I was frustrated about, were exactly the things that needed to happen in God’s plan in order for things to turn out in the correct fashion to glorify God, and that what I perceived in my reality as worthlessness and failure, was actually progress and worthiness according to the will of God.

So the Question is, How do I stop spending so much time and energy on being frustrated about things that I really don’t need to be frustrated about?

One thing that helps me is when I realize that sometimes, the “what it is,” in my reality, is not the “what it should be,” in God’s reality, and when I know what God said it should be, then I begin to look at how this seemingly frustrating thing is actually pushing me closer to what God said should be the end result, and in seeing it from God’s point of view, I begin to see the positives in the situation, instead of being overwhelmed by the negatives.

When we look at this scripture and note the exchange between Jesus and the Samaritan Woman, we see that there is a difference between what she understands as reality and God's reality. There is a difference between what it is for her, as opposed to what it should be according to God.

As we look at the text we notice that what it is, is that Jesus was asking

her for something, when it should have been her asking Jesus for something.

What it is, is that she didn't even know the gift of God, when she should have been receiving the gift of God.

What it is, is that she didn't know who this Jesus really is, when she should be honoring and worshipping Him.

She thinks that He's just a man when she should have known that He is the Messiah. When we look at this scripture closer we begin to ask, “Why is it that she didn't ask for the water that Jesus offered her?” To the contrary, we see instead that Jesus is asking her for water , and we then begin to realize that sometimes according to God we do stuff backwards. We see that sometimes we do exactly the opposite of what God wants us to do when we lean on our own understanding. When we look at this scripture and see that Jesus is talking about living water and she is talking about liquid water, we then realize that she didn't know what type of water He had for her, do you understand what type of water that God has for you?

What it is, is that Here we are, with breath in our bodies, when we know that for some of the things that we've done in our lives, we should be dead.

When you step back and look over your life at some of the things that have happened in your life, you will find that at some point and time there was something that happened that should have taken you out, and if nothing has ever happened to you, then you need to know that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and the wages of sin is death, so we should be dead, anyway. But thanks be to God that what it is, isn't always, what it should be.

When we look at how she tried to play games with Him we find that she really didn't know who He was which further lets us know that when it comes to God, if you don't know the right person then you will be in the wrong position, and when your in the wrong position then you will receive the wrong Present, in other words, If you have the wrong giver then you will do the wrong gestures, and when you do the wrong gestures you will get the wrong gift. Yet in other words, if you don't correctly understand the Bible then you will have the wrong behavior and if you have the wrong behavior then you might be in the wrong body. Even yet in other words, you will ask amiss and miss your gift. When we don't know about the gift and the giver of the gift, who is Jesus, then the things that we ask of Jesus will be off target from the will of Jesus, or as the Bible says, amiss. Sometimes while we are so busy asking God to do things, we need to step back and thank God for what He has already done in our lives, thank Him for waking you up, for the use of your limbs, for being in your right mind, for a roof over your head, for clothes on your back, for food to eat, for air to breath, for allowing us to exist, just for being God all by Himself, thank Him for allowing you to serve in your calling. When what it is, is that you should have been dead, God said you should be preaching life. When what it is, is that you should have been in the dark, God said you should be teaching folk into the light. When what it is, is that you should be down, God said you should be lifting other people up. Leaders, let your what it is, be God's what it should be, and let your what it should be's, match God's what it is.

Be encouraged as you face tough times and let what God has birthed in you, work through you. Let what God said should be for your life, be your what it is. Let your steps be ordered by God, and walk in His love, His grace, and His power and be thankful to God, that what you think it should be, is not always what it really is, according to God.

Have you ever had a time when it seemed like there was no way out of the trouble that you were in?

It might be that family situation that seem hopeless, or that illness, or that addiction, or that job situation, or that bad decision.

I just want to let you know that God said that He is the first, and He is the last, and beside Him there is no other God. And because God is a good God, God has the solution for your every situation and condition…..personally. It was personal, when God created the heavens and the earth. It was personal, when He said let there be light. It was personal, when He reached down into the clay. It was personal, when He formed man. It was personal, when He breathed the breath of life into man. It was personal, when man originally sinned. And since it was personal, God showed His love for us in this that while we were yet sinners, while we were at the club, while we were angry at the church, while we were in gangs, or in our addictions, while we didn’t care about God, while we were in our perversions, our lusts, our rebellions, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us, and for that we ought to give Him the praise we should thank God that He is God and that he looked at us and said…. “my relationship with them……is personal.”

God says in our verse ….. “I am the first and I am the last”…….this shows us the Sovereignty of God. In order for God to be the first, then God had to exist before anything else. In order for God to be first, then He had to bring all creation into existence, without the aid of something else bringing Him into existence, some call this aspect of God as being an uncaused, first cause. In order for God to be first, and create every thing else, then God had to be more powerful than everything else, or as we say, omnipotent. In order for God to be first and to have power over everything, then God had to know about everything created, so He would have to be all knowing or as we say, omniscient. In order for God to be first and in order to be omniscient, then God has to encompass or be everywhere in His creation at the same time or He might miss something, and we call this omnipresent.

Since God is the one who created everything, then we should know that God can remove, anything, so if there’s anything in your live that needs to be removed, you can go to God. Since God is omnipotent or all powerful then that means that nothing is more powerful than God, so if you need some power in your life, you can go to God. Since God is omnipresent or present everywhere at the same time, then that means that when you need some help with your situation, you can turn to God because He’s right there with you. Since God is omniscient or all knowing, then that means we can confess and repent to God of anything that we’ve done wrong, without being ashamed, because God already knows about it. When we look at the verse, we notice that God says, “I am the first and I am the last” He does not say I am the first and I will be the last. This lets us know that God is the first and the last at the same time and in order for God to be omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, the first and the last, at the same time, then God has to operate outside of time, which lets us know that God is eternal and that God created time. We see this in Genesis 1:1 when the scripture says “In the beginning God” which further lets us know that there is no time that God doesn’t know about anything because time is part of His creation. So when you are in your time of anger, just remember that in the beginning, God knew that you would be angry. When your time of temptation comes, just remember that in the beginning God knew that you would be tempted. In the beginning God knew you would struggle with that loneliness. In the beginning God knew you would struggle with that addiction. No matter what the weapon is that gets formed against you, remember that “In the beginning,” God already knew about it, and God has got the solution for it. We might say that is fine that He knew about it….but what is He going to do….about it. When we go back to our verse we find that God says “Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer,” we notice that God says the King of Israel. The name Israel is God’s symbolic name for Jacob and for those who would come after Jacob in the faith, so God is talking to those who believe in God in the way that Jacob believed on God. Also we notice that God says, “his redeemer” which lets us know that this is a personal belief and a personal relationship, with a personal Savior, providing a personal salvation, with personal provisions, for personal blessings, under a personal providence, with personal action, by a Sovereign God and John tells us that, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us,

In other Words, God provided us a perfect, personal, Savior in Jesus Christ,

who went through everything in the flesh, that we go through in the flesh, but in every trial, and every temptation, Jesus had an answer, and Jesus has an answer for your personal situation. When you think that there is nobody in your corner, just remember that God is omnipresent, in other words, God is with you. When you think you are powerless, just remember that God is omnipotent, God has the power to help you out When you think that nobody knows what you are going through, remember that God is omniscient, you can turn to Him because He knows all about it. And when you think God doesn’t care, remember He‘s the Savior. He’s a Sovereign God who wants to save you, and God cannot be personal with you, unless God is Sovereign over all. Remember that in God’s creation….It’s personal.

Can you be trusted, are you accountable, will you be a good steward over what is given you. The Lord says.....Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. Are we being faithful over what God has blessed us with? Are we good for it? Jesus said...." Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations. And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;” but are we......good for it? Pau1 says inZTi2:12 .......If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us. God has something for each one of us,.....however God wants to know, if we are good for it. Are we good for it when God calls us to salvation. Are we good for it when God calls us to share the Gospel? Are we good for it when someone needs a kind word? Are we good for it when someone needs some tough love? Are we good for it when God calls us to do something that goes totally against what makes sense to the rest of the world? Are we good for walking with Jesus, instead of walking with the world? God wants to know, if you are good for it. Were you good for it when God got you out of that gang or off of those drugs, or off the street corner. Were you good for it when God got you a roof over your head, or when God stayed that hand that was abusing you? God wants to know, are you good for it.
God knew......that we didn't count the cost when we took those drinks, or when we were in the club
God knew......that we didn't count the cost when we were gangbanging, or in that illicit relationship
God knew......that we didn't count the cost when we smoked that blunt, or when we hit that pipe.
God knows that every now and then, that we don't count the cost.......but by the grace of God, “God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” In our text we see Jesus talking to the multitudes and He is telling them about the cost of salvation. Someone might ask, why is Jesus telling them about the cost of salvation. The Apostle Paul tells us in 2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears, and we find that these false teachers will rise up in the church.......2Pe2:l says..... But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. God knew that some of those itching ears would look to false teachers who teach that the gift of salvation is a ticket to easy street. God knew that there would be false prophets who would preach another gospel who would tell you that there are no struggles when you follow God, or that temptation for a believer is impossible. These false teachers will take your focus off of God and place it on everything else but God and leave Jesus on the side, however God says that we have a cross to bare.......God says that when we come to Christ, there is a cost involved, in verse 26 we find that the cost might be losing our family the cost might be losing our life. We see in verse 27 that the costs might be the loss of our worldly comforts, the loss of being served and becoming, the servant. We also see in verse 33 that the cost may be the loss of all your worldly posessions, and the question remains. Are you good for it? We find out how to answer this question in luke 14:28 we find that first we need to have an intention, then we need to sit down, then we need to count the costs....and then we need to make a decision, in other words, we need to slowdown, then get the lowdown, before we enter the throw down. In yet other words we need to know what our goal is, then we need to know the actions that we need to take, in order that we acheive the goal .We also need to know the price that we might have to pay for our actions........notice in the King James language it does not say count, it says counteth and in the King James language when you come across a verb ending in "eth" it means that whatever action that the word is describing is a continuous action. So by understanding this we find that in our walk with God we must continuously count the cost of our actions, so no matter how long we've been walking with God, we're still counting up the cost to what we have set out to do. Also Jesus says in our verse....."For which of you" , which lets us know that this is personal and also that not everybody, wants to build a tower, for the unsaved this tower represents, salvation. For those of us who are saved, this tower represents service to the Lord. There are a lot of people looking for the salvation of God without having to labor in a vocation for God and some do not want to work out our salvation in fear and trembling. As Global Christian Leaders we need to know what our our tower is, in other words, what has God called you to do? Are we good for it?.....Are you good for it if God called you to witness. Are we good for it when God calls us to help others. Are we good for it if God calls us to preach, teach, evangelize or look after His flock? Notice.....Jesus said "For which of you intending to build a tower," this lets us know that before we sit down.....before we count the cost and before we make a decision, we need to have a vision, and that vision gives us a focus for our intention.......there can be no intention to do something if there is no focal point of that intention, you can't go from point A to point B until you know what point B is. So when you have an intention you have to have a :
destination,
an anticipation
and a realization,
in other words you cannot intend to build a tower until you have a vision of the tower, which is the destination, and when you have a vision of the tower which is your destination, then you begin to anticipate what it will take in order to build the tower, and when you have the anticipation of what it takes to get to the destination, then you will have a realization as to where you stand......... right now. When you identify the goal that God has set for your future, then you realize where you are in your present, and then you will begin to understand what it will take, to get to your destination,. David said...."I was glad when they said unto me let us go into the house of the Lord, his destination was the house of the Lord, his realization was that he was not there yet, so his anticipation was the journey, from where he was when he heard the invitation to his destination of arriving at the house of the Lord. But after hearing the invitation in the realization of his present situation, he had to have an anticipation on getting to his Destination, so in order to navigate the joumey, David had to count the cost. When we count the cost, we begin to realize, that on our own we are not " good for it", we realize that without Jesus, we have insufficient funds. When we look at our text we find that Jesus is talking about starting a project that if we count the cost it will be sure to be completed before we start the work. If we count the costs, we realize that although we're not good for it, there is one, who is good for it, we realize that there is one who is faithful to complete the work that He had begun, we realize that there is one who said...."it is finished" and by Him, through the Holy Spirit as leaders, you will find that Yes, you are good for it!
May God Bless You and Yours,
Bishop W.C.
1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:

7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

Here am I, send me. This passage of scripture has a special place in my heart, and for most who have been called to preach, this text resonates in our spirits in a particular way, although the Bible as a whole is special and each passage in the Bible is special, this particular text seems to hit people in an extra special way. In the text we get a clear and vivid account of the call of Isaiah by God, and every preacher who has been called by God to preach has had an Isaiah moment, that moment of clarity when you realize that you are called by God to preach, he same can be said about all Christians when they realize what God has called them to do on His behalf, it is a special calling, whatever your call may be, it is special. In every call, there is a mandate to deliver a message, a special message the message of God. No matter how God may have you do your assignment it is special. No matter if it is something you have to say, or if it is some action you are called to take…..it is special. It takes a special God, to make special preparation, for a special people, to deliver a special message, for a special purpose………Have You had your Isaiah moment?
