The Sabbath in the Early Church and Abroad

By COGwriter

What day of worship was practiced by early Christians? Was sabbath-keeping only a Jewish practice? Does history show that the Sabbath was kept by Gentile peoples throughout history?

This article will look to the Bible, the practices of Jesus and Paul, and early writings to answer these questions.

The Perpetuity of the Law

Where must all men appear?"

"For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that everyone may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad." 2 Cor. 5:10.

What will be the standard in the judgment?

"Dancing" before the Lord

Clearly the Bible speaks of Dancing before the Lord, as David did, however, what type of dancing is appropriate in a worship service should be the question.

The link below is to a video taken of a Church Anniversary celebration in the Church's sanctuary.

I would like to have comments from any and all, regarding the appropriateness of this type of dancing in a sanctuary:

Christ IS OUR PASSOVER.

Christ IS OUR PASSOVER.

Passover in the New Testament

Everybody knows that Passover is a big festival for the Jews, but not many people realise it was also an important festival for the Church during the first century, and should still be observed by Christians today, since there is no Biblical reason for dispensing with it.

The rules for observance of Passover are given in Exodus 12:1-28, Leviticus 23:4-8, Numbers 9:1-14, Deuteronomy 16:1-8. The festival… Continue

A Warning From The Word To Those Who Seek Profits From Peddiling The Things of God

PAUL SAW THE HANDWRITING ON THE WALL

Only a few years into Paul’s ministry, he told the Corinthian Congregation of the corruption already in the Church:

"For we are not as many, which corrupt (peddle) the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ" (II Cor. 2:17).

Now I hope you all know that I love the King James, and it is true as stated in this verse that they "corrupted" the word of God, but this verse… Continue

A study of the Text of the New Testament

The Comma Johannaeum

There is not another verse in all the New Testament that has come under the attack of textual critics like 1 John 5:7 has. Its lack of support in the Greek Manuscripts has cause it to be omitted in virtually every new translation of the Bible that has been printed in the past 100 years or more! Or IF retained, to have its authenticity… Continue

Passover - Easter Bible Study

Passover - Easter Bible Study

Passover or easter, which one should Christians celebrate? Christians may think that they are the same but they are not. One is a pagan festival and the other is the most secrete day of celebration for Christians. Do you know which is which? God does and it makes a difference to Him which one Christians celebrate.

The word Easter is used only one time in the whole Bible and that is in the book of Acts.

From His Tail to His Snout

Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14

Do you think, brother, that in God's great plan

When He was prescribing the best food for man

That He made a mistake in leaving the swine out

For was he not good from his tail to his snout?

Oh, the carcass of an old dead horse or a cow

Don't get too rotten for a dirty old sow;

Though we holler a lot about boils and gout,

We eat… Continue

The Study on the Pre-Sinaitic Existence of the Law

The Moral Law of God - Before Sinai

The study on the pre-Sinaitic existence of the law

Its universal acknowledgement and practice from Eden to Sinai

In the beginning the Lord God created Adam, the federal head of mankind, in His own image, Gen. 1:27. Adam in His pristine condition was wholly inclined toward God, and His law was the way of his life. The Scripture goes on to teach that the moral law of God was to continue from the Garden of Eden to the giving of… Continue

*Plurality of Elders* not the Single Pastor is the Biblical Model For Church Government

Most, not all, Protestant churches have patterned their church government after the Roman Catholic Church, which was presided over by a priest. The Biblical model for church government was through a plurality of elders. This was the ancient model for the Jewish synagogue after which the NT church was originally patterned.

HEB. 8:8b ".... I will establish a new covenant with the House of Israel and with the House of Judah'

Hebrews 8:8b

The days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will establish a New Covenant with the *House of Israel and with the House of Judah*.

According to the OT in Jer. 31 and the NT in Hebrews 8, the New Covenant was to be made with the House of Israel and with the House of Judah*.

The proponents of "replacement theology" have in their minds, deleted "Israel and Judah", from the "New Covenant" and inserted "The Church" as… Continue

"Do not eat with the Brother that is a Fornicator..." 1Cor 5:11

! Cor. 5:11

But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator............ with such an one no not to eat
.

Because churches as a whole, tend to pick and choose which biblical mandates to keep, this is one of those that usually gets ignored, under the mistaken belief that we shouldn't "judge one another."

Paul in 1 Cor 6:9 & 10, lists fornicators and adulterers along with homosexuals, neither of which… Continue

The Truth about " Lazarus and the Rich Man"

Lazarus and the Rich Man

Do people burn forever in a hell-fire? Do saved mothers up in heaven see the writhing and hear the shrieks of their own lost children down in hell?

STOP AND THINK! Would you really want to spend eternity in a heaven where you would be forced to gaze constantly upon your own loved ones who were lost, hearing them frantically screaming to you for help you would be unable to give, gazing constantly upon their indescribable agony, as they, on… Continue

"Easter" or "Passover"?

Easter

This article on Easter is divided into three sections. In the first section I explore the only passage where the word Easter is found in scripture. In the second section I take a look back at where Easter is believed to have originated. And lastly I answer a question as to why the Easter holiday is not on a set day of the year like others.

Easter in Acts 12:4 - Is it a mistranslation? Yes it is!

1,050 New Testament Commands

1,050 New Testament Commands

There are 1,050 commands in the New Testament for Christians to obey. Due to repetitions we can classify them under 69 headings. They cover every phase of man's life in his relationship to God and his fellowmen, now and hereafter. If obeyed, they will bring rich rewards here and forever; if disobeyed, they will bring condemnation and eternal punishment.

Did The Laws of God Exist Before Sinai, According to the Scriptures? Yes, They Did!

Laws Before Sinai

This Is Appendix 15 From The Companion Bible.

The existance of Laws in the book of Genesis and Exodus is evident, though there is no formal record of their delivery. Compare. Exodus 18:16.

Doubtless some were made known to mankind, as such, by God, for example, (1) the Law of the Sabbath (Genesis 2:3). (2) The days noted in the connection with the flood are all sabbaths except one, Genesis 8:5, Tuesday. See note on Genesis… Continue

What Is the "Soul"? Are you a 3 - part immortal being? The Bible does not teach that....

This blog is posted to refute the common belief that man is a tri-parte being.

The Hebrew word for Soul applies to animals as well as humans.

What is a soul?

Much misunderstanding about death is directly related to confusion concerning the "soul." What is a soul? Does it exist? If it exists, is it separate from the physical body? Does it live on after death?

The Hebrew word most often translated into English as "soul" or… Continue
