Children's Ministry...It's Not Just About Children

Your effectiveness in children's ministry is not soley based on how well you minister to children. You have to be able to raise up leaders and build teams. I have seen people who were great with kids, but their ministry never grew or reached its full potential because they didn't do this. Your success in children's ministry depends on the strength of the team of adults you build to do the work of the ministry.

Whatever you are, be a good one!

Whatever you are, be a good one" [Abraham Lincoln].

The message in this short statement is so powerful: regardless of the position you hold or the role you fulfill, perform it to the very best of your abilities. Or, as Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath said, "If you're not going all the way, why go at all?"

Abraham Lincoln was going all the way! There are many reasons that I admire and respect this man. From his humble beginnings as a Kentucky frontiersman,… Continue

Do Churches in the Black Preaching Network have Children's Ministry?

After writing a subject matter on Children's Ministry in the African American church, another thought came to mind. I wonder how many black churches within a network of 5,000 churches or more have a children's ministry or children's church that is adequately ministering to the needs of the children who attend their churches each week?

Another question. I wonder how many of the Pastors are seriously interested in getting an understanding of why reaching the next generation is so… Continue

Why don't more Black Churches invest in Children's Ministry?

I've been a children's ministry consultant for more than thirteen years and I've noticed something, that Black Churches make very little to no investment in children's ministry. Why is that?

I GIVE UP!

Have you ever just wanted to shout, "I GIVE UP!"?

I know that thought has come across my mind many times. But, as I was preparing today's Challenge, I was trying to recall the last time I actually said those words. It has been so long ago that I really cannot remember the last time I said it, though I can recall the last time I felt like saying it. The key here is that I have decided to listen to my spirit; not my body or emotions. My spirit, who is the true me and who is in constant… Continue

If We Can't Reach the Dechurched, Can We Really Reach the Unchurched?

If We Can't Reach the Dechurched, Can We Really Reach the Unchurched?

Or another way to ask this might be: Are the keys to being effective at reaching the Unchurched to be found in the Dechurched? George Barna states that recently Dechurched Christians represent the largest growth rate of any segment they monitor. Few churches in America are unaffected by this growing trend. This may be old news to you, but my question is this: Could thoughtful dialog with this group provide insights… Continue

Why people resist change…

Leaders resist change as much as followers do. The result? Unchanged leaders equals unchanged organizations. Here’s 10 reasons why people resist change:

1. The change isn’t self-initiated (Someone else’s idea)

2. Routine is disrupted (We are creatures of habit)

3. Change creates fear of the unknown.

Many people are more comfortable with old problems than with new solutions

4. The purpose of the change is unclear (God leads in steps you don’t always know Z, start… Continue

How Bad Do You Want It?

There are some things I just don’t understand?

Why do folks want to be in

leadership and don’t want to lead? Why would you want to play and not win?

Why do some do great, others do good, and others just barely do?

To be successful it takes skill and ability, it also takes determination and hard work but most of all it takes want to! I believe if you want something bad enough you’ll do it. I have time for everything that I want to have time for.

The key… Continue

What Can You Discontinue?

If you are serious about mastering the art of simplifying life you must master the habit of evaluating constantly. Listen to your spouse. Ask the timeless question…”Where’s the beef?” Examine and inspect fruit, gains, and losses. Evaluate efficiency and look for ways to build systems and streamline efforts. Every experience in you life teaches something a great question is what did I learn today from life?

Ask daily “What should I discontinue, change and/or add to my life? Last but… Continue
