Excerpts from sermon- "Faith that Won't Shut-Up"
...........The lesson to be taken in tonight is that although we have obstacles and stumbling blocks that try to keep us from getting what we need from God. Although we have people who try to keep us down and away from what God has for us. Although we have handicaps in our life that give a feeling of defeat like Bartimeaus, we must learn this lesson tonight. That is…We cannot allow our frustrations and limitations to conquer our ambition.....
.........In the midst of this dreary hopelessness, all of sudden Bartimeaus became aware of a commotion in the street. The text doesn’t whether he asked or was just listening, but the text does say that he heard that Jesus was coming. Bartimeaus took it upon himself to call upon Jesus. The Bible says, “And when he HEARD that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out…” Now you have to stop here and see what blind Bartimeaus saw! Yea, because 2 Corinthians 5:7 tells us that “we walk by faith and not by sight.” Romans 10:17 says, “so then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” Understand people of God, Jesus is the living word. The text says, “when he heard…”, faith cometh by hearing, “when he HEARD that it was Jesus FAITH came and he SHOUTED JESUS!!! You see, you have to have faith in God beforehand & shout BEFORE God makes the move. The text explains that they (Jesus & Group) came to Jericho and AS THEY WENT OUT… Bartimeaus shout was powerful because he shouted for Jesus before Jesus even got there. Verse 47: “he heard…” Before he even saw God in the physical state the Bible says he began to shouting because he heard that Jesus was coming and he had faith enough to believe!
Like Bartimeaus, sometimes we need to take the little bit of faith we have and walk out on it and begin to shout for what he yet WILL DO!
