Excellence in Kingdom Leadership

Pastor

David Anthony Clarke, Sr.

John Maxwell describes excellence as when you devote that something extra in order to be extraordinary. As we emphasize excellence this year, my prayer is that all of us in the Grove Zone will fleau (flow) to new standards of living in the kingdom and serve God and each other better than ever before.

Each month we will look at excellence in a different area. This month, we’re looking at excellence in kingdom leadership. Let me share a few things as to what this looks like.

Excellent Time Stewardship

Excellent kingdom leaders steward time well. Someone said, "One thing you can't recycle is wasted time." The Bible says to redeem the time because the days are evil (Eph. 5:16). In other words, excellent leadership discerns and devotes time to what really matters most to the Lord. One good way to do this is to avoid time wasters. What are some time wasters? Good question. Let me list a few:

1. Complaining. Time is better spent being grateful than complaining. Leadership is naturally challenging. Complaining makes it more complicated. Lead with a grateful heart. Give thanks (I Thess. 5:18).

2. Worrying. Leaders try to prevent problems, but understand that they are inevitable. Solve the problems that can be solved and leave the rest up to God. Don’t worry (Matt. 6:27-34).

3. Spending time with negative people. There are some people who will never see the bright side. Our God is the God of hope (Rom. 15:13). Hope and negativity cannot co-exist because hope always expects better things.

4. Touching untouchable people.Kingdom leaders want to touch people and make an impact on their lives. However, there are some people who are “untouchable”. There are times when we must shake the dust off of our feet and move on (Matt. 10:14). Know who is touchable and invest your time in them (Matt. 10:11).

5. Being someone other than yourself.Do not waste time living an unauthentic life in order to make a false impression on others. Humility makes you transparent and genuine. Kingdom leaders understand that they are not called to make an impression, but to make an impact.

More to follow in the days to come. Your feedback is welcome. Be encouraged!
