And Congratulates Terrace Milem’s

Excerpt

After his crucifixion, burial and resurrection Jesus is seen alive for 40 days. During that time he said many things to prepare his disciples for the challenges that were ahead of them. He knew what they would face and didn’t want to leave them without what they needed to handle it.

The last thing that he said to them is often referred to as the Great Commission. We see it in Matthew 28:19 & 20, Mark 16:15 & 16 and Acts 1:8. This Last Commandment is directly related to the greatest commandment and the new commandment. When a person falls in love they are so excited about it that they cant keep it to themselves. After spending time with a friend who is in love, although you may not personally know their love interest, you hear so much about them that you feel like you do. Their enthusiasm leads you to a point where you can't help but want to meet them for yourself. It should also be this way with people who, as Jesus said, love God with all their heart and with all their soul and with all their mind. The first motivation for witnessing to others should be our love for God. The second motivation should be our love for others. The Last Commandment involves what this book is about and is best summarized in Acts 1:8 where Jesus says,

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

The proclamation of the gospel is without question our most important duty as a Christian. It is necessary for the salvation of lost souls, the growth of the church and the return of Jesus.

Commentary

After reading the excerpts of The Last Commandmentsby Terrance Milem I reflected on the brilliance of him capturing the true essence of sharing the love of The Father and of His Son in pen. As one my Christian brothers and friends I considered the countless hours Mr. Milem contributes to helping the unfortunate and incarcerated to have a better life through Jesus Christ . How then Milem takes the hope of his charities and goes from city to city to teach and preach to others how to embrace an impartial love to our fellowman. These selfless acts caused me to reflect on a painting by Rembrandt concerning the life of Christ in the Alte Pinakothek Museum in Munich, Germany. This painting is interesting because it captures the moment when the cross is erected into an upright position. While two brutes push and pull it into place, there is a third figure bracing the cross. The third figure is a self-portrait of Rembrandt. Rembrandt states “He is placing himself among the others who are crucifying Christ. What he is saying, like them, I am a sinner”. I surmise that what the picture illustrates to us is “there go I but by the Grace of God”. That Rembrandt’s painting should cause one to contemplate how will I now erect the cross for my Lord? I will carry this “bare cross” wherever I go in my character, my testimony and in my living, for His Death was not in vain. I will tell others of how symbolically we carry crosses and are crucified but because of Jesus’ Magnanimous Love, we die in the flesh but we are resurrected in the spirit to live in love and everlasting joy when we believe, receive and obey the Commandments of Our Lord and Savior.
