Are We Producing Greed Or Generosity In Our Lives?

1 Timothy 6:10} For the love of money is a root of all evils, it is through that some have been led astray and have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves through with many acute (mental) pangs.

Greed is defined as the self-serving desire for the pursuit of money, wealth, power, food, or other possessions when this denies the same goods to others; often times caused by extreme selfishness and jealousy. I personally believe that greed is one of the most powerful distractions that Satan uses to sidetrack people from God’s will and His plan and purpose for their life. God said to give and it shall be given to us good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over will it be given to us. But we also have to give generously if we are to receive generously. If we are tight fisted with things then we better not expect to receive any of God's blessings. If we are very lean in our giving then what we receive will be lean also. Some Christians today do not even attend church and give God his due! They don't come to worship, they don't tithe and they are not being fed the Word of God.

I'm sure many of you have heard about the show "Hoarders." Ever watched it? They hoard and hoard until there is no room for them to live. The same is true of many Christians today. We have become hoarders instead of givers then we wonder why we are in lack. God will only increase in any area when He sees that He can trust us to use those things in a right way. We are to use everything He blesses us with to further His Kingdom. We are to show the world what a loving, forgiving and generous God He is. Money can be used for wonderful purposes yet many are using it for their own personal greed. When we become emotionally attached to anything, that thing will guide the decisions we make. Who or what are we most in love with? Money? Possessions? God? I pray it's God. Yet many Christians today have become very cold in their walk and won't give God any of their time or anything else for that matter. An emotional attachment to anything we have will cause us to withhold it from blessing someone in some way. When we keep withholding things that is when our lives, our souls, become like the hoarder's homes.....overloaded and can't see their way to right living.

An emotional attachment to anything we possess will cause us to strive for everything this world has to offer yet we will lose our souls in the very process of this. What good does it do us to gain the whole world yet lose our souls? When this happens we lose our morals and values, as we can see many in the world already have. Greed is a bottomless pit which causes us to strive to get things to give us a happy high which lasts but for a moment. Greed causes us to abandon our relationship with Christ. We become emotionally driven rather than spiritually led by the Spirit of God. We need to do a heart search for we will find that many of us have made decisions by the dictates of greed. We are human, we will fall short of the glory of God. But the key is to repent, change our ways and go on with our walk with the Lord.

God has given us many talents to use for His kingdom yet many of us use them for all the wrong reasons. Either that or we don't use them at all and come up with every excuse why we are not doing so. Everything God is blessing us with is for a specific purpose...His purpose. What have you done recently for the Lord? What are you doing with the things He has given you? Are they for personal gain or are they for the blessing of others. In giving we can't help but be blessed. We cannot outgive the Giver! Remember also that our heart motivation has to be right. Don't give with the expectation of getting something back from that person. God sees what we do and what we give and HE is the one who will bless us in return. I pray we take these daily sharings to heart. Don't just hear the word, do the word. God speaks through His people. The question is are we listening and applying what God is showing us? Obedience is the greatest honor we can give God. Let us become givers and not hoarders in order to honor and glorify our God. God bless you, I love you but Jesus loves you so much more than I ever could.
