"And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."

Matthew 26:39-41 (King James Version)

Even Jesus Christ Himself, had to endure afflictions, temptation and the trying of His Faith. Certainly you and I, who choose to follow Him as our Savior, will have to endure much of the same for His Name's sake. In order to be more than conquerors and achieve total and constant victory, we must develop a deep relationship with Christ and a strong prayer life.
How often do you pray? Do you really know the power of prayer and fasting? Do you only pray for those you know and love or do you interceed for others including your enemies?

In Matthew 26 (above) Jesus was getting close to the time of sacrifice where he would be arrested, beaten and crucified for the sins of the whole world.

"Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.

And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.

Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me." Matthew 26: 36-38

He was down in spirit, hurting emotionally and in need of prayer and encouragement but the disciples where not in a spiritual place to provide the support He needed. Many believe they were simply tired and sleepy, but I believe it was much more than that. I believe their flesh was able to take control because although they may have been willing, their inner spirit was weak and had no spiritual strength due to the lack of being in God's presence. When we are praying we are positive and optimistic. When we are praying we are more inclined to praise God because our faith is lifted. When we are praying we are more sensitive to God's voice and His leading. Our attitude is much better, we can see much clearer and more importantly, we are more loving and encouraging to others who are in need.

Could you watch with me for at least one hour? That does not necessarily mean can you pray with me for an hour...but Are you willing to spiritually watch or to be spiritually alert or attentive for at least one hour, or one season of time that I may desperately need you to pray or to give me a word. The simple truth is, if we are not in constant prayer, we are spiritually blind and unable to watch or discern anything. When we are in communication with God , we know or at least have some knowledge of what His divine will is for ou lives as well as the lives of others.

"Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God."
Romans 8:26-27
