Blog Halloween.doc

Last year I published a blog regarding Halloween and its history, it was during one of my discussion sessions when the discussion turned to Halloween and the decorations that is being witnessed by many believers and wonder what has and is happening to teaching the meaning on such day and where is Christ in many of our set aside celebrated holidays as the focus appears to be driven by the love of money. In many areas (homes) in our communities are decorated as if they were being decorated for Christmas. Some felt that mixed messages are being sent to our young people by what is being witnessed in the community and what is being taught in our Christian community.

Reflecting on my childhood, I didn’t know the true meaning of Halloween and yes during my younger adult years when I became a parent I participated by giving candy or other treats to the children on my block. Lacking the knowledge of the history of this day, but as time passed when I learned better I ceased my participation and provided entertainment to my students and children from a different perspective while using Halloween as a teachable moment. I guess what I am saying is that when you know better you do better.

While reading the attached document on Halloween, ask yourself these questions, is the church teaching the true meaning and origin of Halloween? Who are the Celts and what are their beliefs regarding the rapture? Do you celebrate the dead? The beliefs of the Celts that the ghosts from dead would appear at certain times of the years go against the teachings of what is going to happen at the rapture. In the Pope’s attempt to replace the Celtics festival of the dead with a church sanctioned holiday, did church politics or politics become involved to the point All Saints’ Day or All Souls Day was initiated? In today’s society, there appears to be the lack of teaching and or knowledge of this day that have resulted in misplaced values in the Christian Community? How can the Christian Community correct this situation?

In closing, the attached article answers many questions as well as provide enlightenment on Halloween. The article show the progression of the celebration if this day and how the pranks and tricks grew progressively more deviant. The many deviant acts that occurred then and today was and is not the intent of civic leaders. Also, the article highlights the beliefs of other cultures. It is my hope that more adults and the Christian Community will began to teach the true meaning of Halloween and that witchcraft is an evil that is spoken on in the Bible, as God does not sanction witchcraft or any evil. Christians must refrain from partaking in holidays that promote the dark side.
