HOLY OF HOLIES

The Holy of Holies, or Most High Place was the innermost room of the temple or tabernacle, in which the ark of the Testimony was kept.

Before Aaron and his sons werre chosen by God, the Lord told Moses: "And I will meet with you there and talk with you from above the place of mercy between the cherubim." Only Moses was allowed into the Tabernacle and The Holy of Holies.

When the people sinned, The Priest, Aaron and his sons were to take their sacrifices and offer them before the Lord as an atonement for their sins. The animal was excepted by God as a substitue for the one who had sinned. The blood always had to be sprinkled on the alter.

"For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given you the blood to sprinkle upon the alter as an atonement for your souls; it is the blood that makes atonement, because it is the life." (Lev. 17:11)

In the old ways, only the priest could go into the Holy of Holies and offer the blood as an atonement for sins. The people were not allowed to go before God themselves. But God gave us the ultimate Sacrifice, The blood, the life, of his son, Christ. Now the old way of sacrifice can be done away with.

Zechariah spoke of it in Zech. 9:9-11, " I have delivered you from death in a waterless pit because of the covenant I made with you, sealed with blood."

If the blood of bulls and goats could cleanse the body of sin, how much more will the blood of Christ transform our hearts and lives. (Heb.9:9-14)

Year, after year, after year, the priests would have to make atonements. Christ did not have to die over and over again, to make atonement for sins. He died once, to put away the power of sin forever. (Heb. 9:11,12)

So when Christ died, the veil to the Holy of Holies was torn apart (Matt. 27:51) and we are now able to see what man used to couldn't even lay eyes on.

So Christ has opened up the Holy of Holies for us, by the sacrifice of His blood. He has opened up the way by tearing the curtain (his human body) so that we can enter into the very presence of God. (Heb. 10:18-22)

I'm so glad that Christ made the sacrifice for Me.
