John 8:47a NIV
It is really frustrating when we call someone on the phone to share something important and they cannot hear us or we cannot hear them. It is also frustrating when the hearer has heard our every word but fail to grasp an understanding of what we have said. True communication takes place when that which is spoken has been both heard and understood.
Our ability to hear words spoken is determined by the audible level of the source and the distance between the hearer and the source. The closer we are to the source the better we are able to hear. Our hearing starts with what strikes our ears but the real hearing, on the other hand, is determined by our decision to listen and the internal factors that rule our mind.
Hearing is influence by that which is in the mind and in the heart of the hearer. Every word uttered can be audibly discernable, clear and distinct but attitude, mindset and emotional disposition censors and screens everything that is heard and understood regardless of that which was spoken. This selective hearing can be devastating especially when we are hearing only what we want to hear in spite of what is being said or meant by the one speaking. We miss because we fail to truly listen.
The Lord's sheep know His voice and they hear Him. This is because they have spent time in His presence developing their relationship with Him. These are the ones who have fed on His words and have tuned their ears to listen the voice of God. No stranger speaking twisted truth will be able to sway them by their deceptions regardless of how similar their voice may be in words or sound to what is actual truth.
Make the decision to listen to the whole message of God and not just the part we want to hear. We miss God because we fail or chose not to listen and hear the full counsel of what He has spoken. The Lord speaks to His children and they are blessed indeed to hear His voice and to recognize that they are His words. His words bring life, light and deliverance. Walk in the word He has spoken to your heart. Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Amen!
"He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?" Micah 6:8
"And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me." Daniel 10:19
"And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you." Luke 24:36
