From the top of my head, the “obvious” are those things that can be readily seen, understood, ascertained, grasped… Add your own definitions. While there is much to be said about looking to the past and letting go of the things of the past, in order to move ahead we must look around us at our current circumstances, as well, and make a decision that we are not going to stay there as well (a state of stagnation). It is obvious that holding on to the past will impede our progress (a whole message can be developed with that thought), and I don’t want to stay there; moving forward—we need to put forth effort to get out of our comfort zones, push past self-imposed limitations, press through barriers of naysayers, haters, and ne’er do wells, see beyond our noses to realize the wealth of knowledge, positive experiences, places to go, growth, and positive things to do to enhance our lives and the lives of others around us.
One way to look beyond the obvious is by looking beyond ourselves to a big God. Most of the following words were actually borrowed from words spoken forth by Bishop W.R. Portee. I have found them very motivating and have applied them to my own life and have achieved positive results, even using them as daily affirmations for my line of work; you, too, might find them inspirational. These words may not be received by everyone, but as the Bible says, he that has ears to hear, let him hear what the Spirit says: We need to learn to ask big of our God, enlarge our minds, enlarge our dreams, and enlarge and guard our thinking. We need to embrace bigger things with our minds and with our spirits, claim bigger things and walk in them. We need to think big, act big, do big, and believe big, because we have a big God!
If we ask for only what we can do, it’s only because we have small minds and we are not using the faith that has been deposited within every man (even though some may not believe it is within them). If we ask big, believe big, and talk big, we will see big things come to pass. We must take the limits off our minds; there are no limits on God’s mind! We need to loose our minds and release our faith in a big God and allow Him to fulfill every dream, every vision, and every prophecy according to our faith as individuals.
We have creative power within us, and we need to create our year and do it now! Don’t wait, and don’t waste time, because 2010 is on the horizon! Dream big! Think big! Try big! Do big, and the Lord our God will fill our bigness with His bigness. As we loose ourselves from the past and look beyond the obvious, we shall go into the future big time with our God!
