meditation on the word of god. the road to building your faith

The word of the week.
From the desk of Pastor Jimmie Gibson

So often i see Christians fighting with stress and fear due to various issues that life throws at us. As i began to pray this week over things that the lord has laid on my heart, i heard the holy spirit say to me, "Son all of the fear and stress and unbelief that the believer is tolerating can be eliminated if they would just learn to meditate in my word daily and spend time with me." I want to give you some tools below that will help you fight the good fight of faith. Everyone has to confront fear and unbelief at some point in there christian walk. Meditation will cause you to have victory.

the laws of meditation.
what is meditation. the word meditate literally means to mutter or to speak aloud to one's self, speaking in a undertone to yourself. it also means to ponder, to think on. the best example that i give sometimes is its like when you studying for a test in school. you run the questions and answers through your mind, sometimes talking to yourself, even quizzing your self.
why meditate. Joshua 1:8 gives us a great example of the benefits of meditating in the word of god. Moses has just passed away and Joshua has been commissioned by moses and the lord to succeed moses. Trying to fill moses shoes is an awesome task, and Joshua has some fear. in Joshua 1:6 the lord tells Joshua to be strong and of a good courage. The lord repeats himself again in joshua1:7 but this time he says "only be thou strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law, which moses my servant commanded: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou may prosper whither soever thou goest." The lords instructions to Joshua indicate that fear is not an option for us. neither is doing something any other way but gods way. the term turn nor to the right hand or the left indicates alternative ways of doing or going another other than what the lord has commanded. It requires the strength that comes from the lord to be strong and very courageous. its not something you can do in your own power or might. Lets take a quick look at what the Apostle Paul prays for the church at Ephesus.

Ephesians 3:14-19 (King James Version)
14For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
16That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
17That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
18May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
19And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.

Notice verse 16. the strength of god comes via his holy spirit and is by faith and its on the inside of the believer. By taking the time to meditate on these verses of scripture here, you can develop the faith to believe god for his strength to be given to you. lets take a closer look at Joshua.
Joshua 1:8-9 (King James Version)
8This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
9Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whither soever thou go est.
Notice the benefits of meditating on the word of god. verse 8 says that as you meditate in the word of god day and night(implying that your meditation times are set times and are a habit),the first thing that will happen is you will see or observe somethings that you could not see before. The amplified bible reads like this
Joshua 1:8-9 (Amplified Bible)
8This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good [a]success.
9Have not I commanded you? Be strong, vigorous, and very courageous. Be not afraid, neither be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go
Here we see that you are not just seeing something but now the thing you are seeing, as a result of spending time meditating in the word of god, will now cause you to do or act out upon the thing or things that you now can see from the word of god. 2nd thing that happens is now you will make your way prosperous or literally come into physical manifestation, and you shall deal now using the wisdom of god(not the wisdom of this world), and you shall have good success. Notice that all of this stems from the believer meditating on the word of god.
No matter what the situation is in your life, i want to encourage you to find the promises from the word of god that covers whatever you are dealing with. meditate on them continually, speaking to yourself over and over and over. Some may say your nuts for doing that, or they may say it does not take all that. Well if Joshua had to do it to be successful in the things of god, i think we ought to pay attention and be imitators of those that are of the house hold of faith.
One more thing. Meditating in the word of god will also cause faith to come.
Romans 10:17 (King James Version)
17So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
the word hearing hear means to hear, comprehend and understand what you are hearing. Notice that Faith is coming via the hearing, comprehending and understanding of the word of god. by meditating on the word of god, you are literally increasing your faith(belief, trust, confidence in the word of god. So if you want the faith of god, then you have to have the word of god. You have to comprehend and understand the word of god that you are meditation on. No word of god, no faith. So now The word of god can be used to find the faith of god. No word No faith. We could read Romans 10:17 like this; So then faith cometh by hearing, comprehending, and understanding, And hearing, comprehending , and understanding by the word of god. Lets look at a few more. Now everywhere you see the word faith, I'm gonna put in parentheses(the word of god), so you can get the full meaning.

Hebrews 10:22
Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith(the word of god), having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water

Hebrews 10:23
Let us hold fast the profession of our faith (the word of god) without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

Hebrews 10:38
Now the just shall live by faith(the word of god): but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him

Hebrews 11:1
Now faith(the word of god) is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Hebrews 11:3
Through faith(the word of god) we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear
Hebrews 11:6
But without faith(the word of god) it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

As you can see, no word,no faith. i encourage you to set aside time everyday to meditate in the word of god, increase your faith, and have good success, and deal in the wisdom of god.
god bless
