I have always heard about numbers thirteen in the context of the whole story. I have heard of Joshua and Caleb and how when all else fell into the trap of negativity, believing that they couldnt make it into the promised land, Joshua and Caleb stood up and spoke positiveness into the negative surroundings. For this Joshua and Caleb got to enter the promised land even thought eh rest of there generation did not.

Now I think that there is more to the story than I originally thought. At the beginning of the chapter when Moses picks the spies he picks one named Hoshea. Moses changes his name to Joshua. Hoshea meant Salvation, and Joshua meant Yawah is Salvation. I think this whole story parallels our salvation experience. In repentance we turn to God who in a sense changes our name from being our own savior "Hoshea" to telling a story of how he is our Savior "Joshua." In this story because Joshua is seeing things through the glasses of God as our salvation, he stands up to the opposing negativity, and says in a sense if God be for us who can be against us. How many of us need this name change. When we see difficulties or "Giants" in our land do we have the Joshua attitude or the old Hoshea attitude. Will we let God save us or we will stupidly try to save ourselves.

So what do you think. A valid thought. Or just to much pizza last night. Let me know.
