To be at rest is to feel peaceful and totally relaxed. When is the last time you can say you were truly at rest? Signs such as snoring, jaw crunching and moaning, belie a perfectly restful sleep.

Everyone craves rest either consciously or subconsciously. If you're too busy doing things, retired but worrying about your pension benefits, or concerned about catching the next epidemic, you are not at rest.

Moses understood only too well the consequences of stress. In his frustration with the Israelites he had struck the rock contrary to God's instructions, and thereby forfeited the ultimate goal of seeing the Promised Land. He reminded God of His promise to go with him and give him rest, and begged Him not to send them further unless His presence went with them.

How wonderful it is to have the privilege of talking to the Lord and hear Him answering and leading you! Do you know Him? If you know Him as your Lord and Savior, then His presence is within you, and He will never leave nor forsake you. He promises that if you come to Him with all your burdens, He will give you rest."

What a beautiful world it would be if we all told the Lord every morning that we would not go anywhere without His Presence! The Holy Spirit guides and comforts you in all things. However, He will never force you to do anything. It can be very hard to hear His Voice through the buzz of competing messages you're bombarded with daily. You will learn to clearly hear His voice when you spend time to develop a daily relationship with Him.

Imagine for a moment what the Lord might say when you behold Him face to face. Would He sadly point out all the instances where He would have given you rest, if only you had asked Him to do the leading? Would He show you how His perfect Will for your life would have manifested?

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths." (Prov. 3: 5 - 6)

You can be at rest even in a turbulent world, if you allow yourself to be led by Him. Why is it that so many Christians don't have the discipline to make time to enter into that rest? Many sects fight for the right to spend time at meditation and prayer; yet they don't know the only One who can give them peace!

As God took His rest after creation, so did Jesus when He sat down on the right hand of the Father. "It is finished," were His last words on the cross. He has done the work; you are in Him, and you are to be at rest with Him. Whatever you do in your own strength will become a burden to you.

None of the Israelites except two experienced God's rest because they did everything their way and stopped relying on Him. Time is so short. Do spend time with the Lord in your secret place reserved for Him, and you will be enveloped in His peace. (Ps. 91: 1) Therefore, don't look back in regret. It is not too late to rest on His everlasting arms and let Him carry you through your trials.

"They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint." (Isa. 40: 31) Isn't that a wonderful depiction of resting in Him?
