The Lord called me to preach, long before I told anybody. I sat, watched, prayed, and observed those who were also called and working in ministry. Some of the elders and my peers knew of my calling, through the voice of God in their ears and they talked to me and advised me to take my time and move in God's time, but not to wait too long. That was powerful advice, because I knew I that my waiting was out of obedience and for proper preparation, but I didn't need to get caught up in waiting and miss the ripe timing. I waited about a year or so before I spoke to the pastor that was assigned to my place of worship. Even after voicing my calling to him, I had to wait, watch, pray, observe, train, and hear from God. During this time, I was trained by some of the best and I thank God for that. My ability to discern and hear from God grew mightily. I stayed hungry and thirsty for the Word. I prayed and interceded for many. I grew spiritually and mightily during my waiting. My spiritual gifts began to manifest, even before I was licensed. God is awesome! God had a plan that was so different from man's plan and I walked according to that plan. My suggestion: Pray; Wait; Watch; Observe; Learn; Hear from God; Do what He tells you to do; and move when He says move (which can be very controversial, but if you let Him lead you, the end result will be better); and learn all that you can while you're waiting. You will reap in the end.

Hello My Borther,
All the advice posted is very good advice, However, it is just that. Get on your knees like the brother said and PRAY, and GOD will give you direction. DO NOT let other talk you out of what GOD has Will for you to do. I had an experience where the Shepherd I told i was called to preach tried to talk me out of it. As a result GOD moved me to sit under another Shepherd and I told him about my calling and he taught me and allowed me to be taught by going to preaching conference and classes. Most importantly he told me not to take this call lightly and that get closer to GOD and stay in his word. I announced my calling in August 2001 and preached my first sermon exactly 1 year later. There are plenty good books to read and study, just don't let them keep you from reading and studying the WORD. An excellent book which has helped me and i continue to read it is Annointed Expository Preaching: By Stehpen Oldford, excellent theologian, who pass away a few years ago. Riding the second chariot is also a good book to help you know what you should do while waiting to preach. Be a SERVANT, SLAVE, assist your pastor and use you GIFTS to help build God's Kingdom! Need more you know my number. I know we have already talked about this, however, you always can use more advice from other great preachers, i.e., Rev Anthony Luckett... Love you man Your Brother

I agree with Pastor. Then wait on the lord as he direct your path test the spirit and get confirmation that you know that you know with out a doubt he has said this get with your pastor and if he rejects you still hold on trust god as he shows him but don't leave the church and start you own thing as so many have done be patient. stay encouraged my brother i had to sit for 7yrs before i was released to preach know this you may be called but you got to go through some testing .
