Rite of Passage Program for Young Boys (Rev. Doug Thomas, PhD)

Uh-Pome Rite of Passage Project

Founder:

Douglas E. Thomas, PhD

Fall 2008

The Uh-Pome Rites of Passage Project is an educational institution that aims to reach youth between the ages of four to eleven. It started
from a vision I had while growing up in rural Pennsylvania in a two
hundred year old community of one hundred people who were all
related. In this community or village each child was provided with a
feeling of safety, which is the basic human element that fosters
growth and development. I created this project because our children
need to feel safe, which allows them to grow and fulfill their life
purpose and destiny.

The Project will expose the children to ideas held by scholars and several cultural groups on topics ranging from developing healthy
eating habits and discussing how that impacts learning; developing
good sleeping habits; preparation for middle school exams;
participating in physical and cultural activities such as yoga and
music.

All the volunteers assisting in this project are college educated and have passed background checks. Some of the volunteers are university
professors who teach math, philosophy and English. We would like to
meet in the school at least three days per week and are willing to
negotiate the schedule. Our volunteers or mentors will be conducting
workshops focusing on health, good sleep practices, exam preparation
and creative arts.

The program is designed to operate for twelve weeks and concludes with a very important ceremony that publicly recognizes the accomplishments
that the student has made from participating in the various
activities that are designed to foster self-awareness; which leads to
a positive attitude of oneself and others. The mentors at the Uh-Pome
Project are convinced that developing and fostering a positive
attitude of self and ones environment in children is the Master Key
that leads to success. Socrates was correct in stating that all
knowledge begins with an Awareness of Self. The development and
nourishing of this Awareness that lies in the subconscious of every
human being; bringing it to surface, and using that knowledge to
create the perfect life, is the focal of our rites of passage.

What is the cost of saving a life or assisting one in finding themselves? The cost of assisting a child in her search to embrace their life
purpose and destiny is priceless. Therefore, we look forward to
setting down with you to discuss this matter in greater detail.

Thanks for considering this preliminary proposal and attached is my Curriculum Vitae that outlines some of my experiences. I will call
your secretary and make an appointment to continue our discussion.

Sincerely,

Douglas E. Thomas, PhD
