This is our second week into summer as this is the time of family outings, picnics, family reunions and attending many outdoor activities; let us remember children are our future as they are gifts from God and are to be loved cherished and protected. While in our reflective mood, remembering our youthful days spending summertime taking part in many activities our parents had planned for our enjoyment When we returned to school we could hardly wait to share our summer vacation with friends and our new teacher. Well, today’s youth deserve those kinds of experiences and moments. I am taking this time to share some reflective thoughts because the news media is filled with tragedy and violence concerning our young people and it make my heart bleed for these young people their relatives.

This question came to mind, how do you and your children view summer? The following saying by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow reminds me of summer as he writes, "That beautiful season the Summer! Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light; and the landscape Lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood."

Rachel Peden writes of summer this way "The serene philosophy of the pink rose is steadying. Its fragrant, delicate petals open fully and are ready to fall, without regret or disillusion, after only a day in the sun. It is so every summer. One can almost hear their pink, fragrant murmur as they settle down upon the grass: 'Summer, summer, it will always be summer.” Isn’t summer beautiful?
As we journey through the remainder of summer, join me in prayer for the safety of our young people that they may have an enjoyable and wonderful summer.

What are your reminders of summer? Is it dirty hands, ice tea, walking in the garden, barb ques, and beautiful flowers everywhere? O! What beauty it brings? Summertime.
