THE ALPHA AND OMEGA BY PASTOR DAVID DALE

The Alpha and Omega

Text: Revelations 1:8 – I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

Lets look at this scripture in the Revelations of St. John the Divine, Jesus is speaking here; I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is (now), and which was (in the beginning), and which is to come (the Return of Christ for His people), the Almighty.

Well it seems like almost all of the churches today are in an uproar over who God, His Son, and the Holy Spirit really are. For the sake of me I don’t understand why churches and preachers today are having problems figuring out who the Alpha and Omega is. If you look at the text above it’s as plain as the nose on your face. Jesus plainly told us who the Alpha and Omega is.

Look at the scripture again with me. Who is ‘Now?’ Who came, bled and died for our sins? Most of us will say, “Jesus, the Son of God did,” and you would be right. But who was the Son of God? Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and he is the now. He was also the little baby, born of the Virgin Mary, this is how he became the now. When Jesus came in the flesh he fulfilled the ‘Sonship.’ You see no one can look upon the face of God and live. So He came in the flesh so that people could look upon him and live.

Who was the ‘was’? Notice that the same one who said He was the ‘now’, is also saying that he is the ‘was’ also. So He was in the beginning. Notice what is said in Genesis 1:1 - In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

He made the Sun, the stars, and everything that was made, was made by Him. So we see he was before the now. So this is still the same person. Well, did it say it, or didn’t it? It’s so plain that no one should argue of this simple point. Just accept the word for what it says. I do.

Ok, he also said that He was the One to come. Yes, that’s what he said. Now, you tell me, who are we looking for to come back and get us? Could it be that the One called Jesus is the One we are looking for? The One we preach about? The same One that is coming back soon? I’m pretty sure that this is the One that every preacher is preaching about when they speak on His coming.

Let’s look at the Revelations 1:17-18 - And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Notice that John said “…I fell at his feet as dead.” (Because John saw Jesus in His Glory) John said, He (Jesus) laid his right hand on Him and said, “Fear not; I am the first and the last, (the same as in verse 8): I am He that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore.” Now who cam here and died, rose from the dead on the third day? We know who did! It was a man named Jesus. He was the one talking to John, notice that the words are all in Red. So we know that it was Jesus speaking since these words are in red.

Now for the closing of this message, and let me just say that this part really upsets everyone. It really makes the people mad at you, it causes pastors to never invite you to come back and preach for them, and it causes Christians to fall out. Not to mention what it does to the whole world. What I’m talking about is the last word Jesus said in verse 8, “I am the Almighty.” Talk about stirring the hornets nest. Wow! Watch out! You’re going to be stung real good if you believe that.

Let’s look at verse 18 again. Jesus said that He was dead, and was alive for evermore. Now tell me who came here, died, and rose on the third day? Notice that the words of Jesus are always in red. This was the same one talking to John as in verse 8. I don’t know about your math, but if Jesus said He was the Almighty, and someone else had a throne, that would make two thrones, wouldn’t it? Then if someone else is mightier than Jesus, then He lied when He said “I am the Almighty.” But of course He didn’t, for John saw one throne in Heaven (Revelations 21:5). Guess who is sitting on that throne, the Alpha and the Omega, whose name is Jesus the Christ. Praise, honor and glory to the Almighty God, for ever and ever, amen! He is my Lord and my God. I love Him so. Jesus is Lord. The Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, Jesus is his name, the Great I Am.
