1 Chronicles 4:10

And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

Thanks for your response Anna. I see the Jabez Prayer as simply an example of ALLOWING God to be in our lives and guiding us as we SHOULD allow him to do. Yes, it was a "personal prayer". He asked God to increase his responsibility, but to be there with him and not let harm come to him. It was a choice of him relying on self or God.

I could never understnd all the hype about it the Prayer of Jabez. It is mediocre at best.

When the apostles asked Jesus to teach them to pray, He did not refer them to the "Prayer of Jabez!" This prayer is too self centered, repeately mentioning, me, my me, me me....
It never should not have been revered more than the prayer Jesus gave His apostles and us-either as a prayer or an outline for prayer, known as "The Lord's Prayer".

It starts like this, never mentioning or petitioning for "me or my" but rather "our and us:"

Our Father, which art in Heaven.
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done.
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give use thia day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.....
