The Strong Black Woman: Myth or Reality?

The Strong Black Woman: Myth or Reality?

I was having a conversation with a group of women today, and the subject of the "Strong Black Woman" came up. It was with a mixed group and I found the discussion absolutely fascinating.

So I want to engage your thinking (my brothers and sisters) as well. What is your definition of a Strong Black Woman. Is she a myth or reality?

Brothers: How do/would you define her? Do you or would you embrace her as your partner in life? If yes, why so? If no, why not?

Sisters: How would you define her? Is she a myth or reality? Do you consider yourself a Strong Black Woman? If yes, why so? If no, why not?

It is my hope that this year 2009 will be the year of truth and honesty, openness and kindness, generosity of care and genuineness love.

I look forward to your comments and feedback.

I asked a group of sisters in the flock and they removed the halo from there head and told me that,,they consider themselves STRONG when they are left to carry the burden of the man who left or is HALF a MAN,,cant keep a job ,,cant and dont know how to be a father or LOVER,,and we wont speak on provider,,no down time but QUICK to hunt down a white woman or someone out there race, and they will give them the world put them on a pedistal but the blackwoman is the door mat,,this is why they call themselves STRONG and they can handle what we as blackmen CANT...she went on to say,,they want to own there business but the blackman still wont work and LEAN on MAMA to pay there half of the bills,,they said that they dont like mama boys because they were never weaned off the NIpple,,and blackweman end up having to wean them and babysit them as well,,So instaed of have one son including the father is two,,she said that some of us are so broke we NEED TO BE BREAST FED..most of the homes that are bought are with the Strong Black Womans Credit,,and it is the blackmen that are dying ,not the blackweman..I can responded ,,I dont know who you been involed with but apparently you made the wrong selection and what was your part in them leaving? they told me that they got tired of babysitting ,,So I guess that we now know the definition of Strong Black woman or ANGRY BLACKWOMAN?

Sis,Aminata
define a strong woman,,someone who takes no mess beleive in the it is all about me and your my Boo only when you have money or giving you something ,OR,,someone who has strong family Values and see a door of opportunity to helps others as well as a woman who supports her man through thick and thin ,,a woman the a Black man goes to work thinking and boasting about,? Even the Heavens rejoice when she wakes up out of her sleep? I am not trashing you,,,but lets be real there are some who mis used the term STRONG BLACK WOMAN,when using this term 7 out of 10 her man is not mentioned or she dont have one ,,even Solomon wrote about the Virtuous woman ,,a Husband was Mentioned,,she was'nt controlling and over talking her spouse in public,,,is this the black woman your talking about?I dont care what color she is if she is an VIRTUOUS WOMAN that is all I want..you see I have dated weman who had a DEMAND for material things but the Virtuous woman her price was beyound rubies she was priceless,,so when meeting someone who says I want this and that ,,,the virtuous woman is priceless ,,,so if I can afford her,,,DO I REALLY WANT HER?

Great topic, Sis!
In my opinion, this is a myth. A good black woman (or any race of woman) is what should be the focus.

I am not strong when i am dealing with a man who is playing games and i get caught up in his mess! but i am a good woman in that i forgive his mess and empowered by the Lord to move past his mess!

I am not strong when it comes to protecting my children from the hurts and harms of todays world. but i am a good woman to hold them in my arms and my heart and help them with words of wisdom!

I am not strong when someone portrays themself as a friend and betrays me and my trust. But i am a good woman when i take their shollowness and transform it into a beautiful thing of love!

I would rather be a good woman than a strong woman because the strong become weak but the good will reap the righteousness of God!
Amen
