Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,

My name Calvin Watt and growing up was not easy for me. Living on the Lower East Side of Manhattan N.Y., I found myself at the age of nine in a word of trouble. At that age I join a street gang call the Royal Javelins. It was then that I was introduced to drugs and Alcohol. This led to stealing, violence, and of course through the years, JAIL. I did not know it then but God had his hands on me. “Thank you Jesus”. The last time I went to jail I was charged with attempted murder. I was defending myself, but no one would believe me. “For once” I was telling the truth. I was given 7 to15 years in prison, I did 22 months. It was due to a detective’s hard work that I was released and by the grace of God.

Since I was last released, I have taken advantage of the ‘another chance’ life offered me. I must give credit where credit is due. I speak of my Parole Officer Mr. Murphy. Although he may not have realized it, reporting to him while searching for me played a major role in turning my life around. In addition, I found a church family in that of the Hollywood Full Gospel Baptist Cathedral, in Amityville, N.Y, who embraced me with love and chastisement; and over the years, with their help and the help of God, I have made tremendous strides in reforming my life.

I have always loved to sing; and upon arrival I joined the choir. My Director of Music and the choir (a family within the family) suffered long with me in correcting my attitude and behavioral deficits. They taught me that there was no ‘I’ in TEAM, and that eating a slice of humble pie each day was easier than eating the whole pie at once. For that I am truly grateful.

My spiritual and emotional growth did not go unnoticed. After a few years I was nominated as a candidate for the Diakonate within the church. I walked in training and studied for a period of time and was ordained as a Deacon of the Church. I am also the official Armor Bearer to my Bishop and Pastor Andy C. Lewter. I am a member of the Bridge Ministry, which provides and eases the transition for those persons who are not accustomed to the church.

In the area of education and mentoring, I am a Sunday school teacher of the Junior Boys class. The Boys – to – Men ministry was founded to instruct & encourage our young boys. I am the chaplain and spiritual advisor of this ministry. I am a member of the LION (Long Island Organizing Network)

In addition, I am working on an associate degree in Bible Studies. I am a member of the Administrative staff and the Manna News paper. My most recent endeavor is becoming a mentor with the Safe Harbor Mentoring Program Prison Ministry, and the Drama Ministry, I also perform in the capacity of driver of the church van and bus.

I still continue to attend N.A. meetings (Narcotics Anonymous). Two of which are held within my Church. I am the co-founder of one of the meeting; and I open the doors for both every Thursday at 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. I am proud to say that I will have 9 years clean, April 19th 2009. It is only through God’s Grace and his Mercy. Understand friends, I am not bragging on my
Accomplishments, I am only telling you where the Lord has brought me from. Amen.
My dream is to help anyone who wants to find God, whether just being released from prison or
coming from any other walk of life.

I am excited at the prospect of helping parolees reenter society; and pray that there is a need for just such a thing; and that the Dept of Parole will allow me to be a part of it.

Yours in Christ,
Deacon Calvin Watt
