What Is An Altar?
A. It is a place of sacrifice
The altar is a table or raise level surface on which things are offered to a god therefore it is the place of sacrifice.

Romans 12: 1 – 2
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (KJV).

What should be sacrifice on this altar?

• Our bodies must be presented as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God.
• Our praise and worship must be presented.
• Our substance this include our money, tithes, fruit, possessions etc
• Our prayers.

The Psalmist says that, “let the lifting up of our hands be like the evening sacrifice”. At the altar our hands are lifted up unto God, provoking the heaven for a release.

B. It is the place of fellowship
The table of communion is a table of sacrifice and it is a table of fellowship between God and Man. Abel built an altar unto God and offer sacrifice and God honour his sacrifice by fellowshipping with him

Genesis 4: 4
4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: (KJV).

C. To A Hebrew An Altar Means A Place Of Slaughter.
Jesus was lead as a lamb to the slaughter (Calvary) for you and me and whenever you and I come to Calvary with our cross it is a place where we die to self.
Listen! Only Him who has died on the cross can teach you how to die on your cross.

D. It Is A Place Of Encounter With God And Angels

Revelation 8: 3 -5
3 And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.
4 And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel's hand.
5 And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake (KJV).

Abel had an encounter with God at the altar. Abraham had an encounter with God at the altar. Listen! You can have an encounter with God at the altar.

I pray for you that may you have an encounter with God at your personal altar in Jesus amen
