On October 18, 2009, my pastor, Apostle AlFred Showers Sr., Senior Pastor of Showers of Blessing Deliverance Temple, in Hammond, LA preached Part 2 of a message entitled “Wake Up The Word In You”. The message was taken from the following scriptures in the King James Version:

John 1:1
Revelation 19:11-13,16
James 1:22-24
Hebrews 4:12-16
Mark 4:38-39, 41
Isaiah 53: 1-10
Exodus 3:7-9
Revelation 21:5-7

The following are notes/excerpts I wrote down from this awesome message of revelation knowledge and insight….The Lord led me to share it with each of you. Strap on your seat belts…..

In the 4th chapter of Mark, we know that the disciples have walked and talked with Jesus, sat and stood beside Him as He expounded on God’s will, and how to defeat Satan, and they had seen Jesus work many miracles. Since John says that in the beginning was the Word and the Word was God, and was WITH God, and He also said, I and My Father are one; then we know that the disciples literally had the Word of God in their midst; teaching and exhorting them daily, amen? No way they could fail right?

Well, in verse 38, the story relays how a terrible storm rose up on the sea, that the disciples became fearful, and where was Jesus?……. The HUMANITY of Jesus was taking a nap… very comfortable with His head on a pillow!!!!!…..in the back of the boat!!! How often have we been in the midst of a terrible storm in our life, and it seemed like the Lord was nowhere around? How many times have we lifted our eyes to heaven and said “Lord, don’t You see me down here? Where are You Lord; don’t you care that this situation is pressing me out of measure, that I‘m struggling within and without? I can‘t take it anymore!!”

What does the end of verse 38 say? The disciples AWOKE Jesus, and said “Carest Thou NOT that we perish?” And we know that in verse 39, the DEITY of Jesus SPOKE up, and said “Peace, Be still”, and the winds and waves obeyed Him.

WAKE UP: means to emerge out of sleep

We have forgotten who WE are in God, and what the WORD is in us…..It’s the lamp unto our feet and the light unto our path. Like the disciples who walked with Jesus daily… many of us attend Sunday School, morning worship, Sunday night Service, Bible Classes, Leadership classes, Prayer Meeting and every counseling and teaching session, seminar, workshop and conference known to man, amen? We hear the Word preached, taught, sung and prayed by Apostles, Bishops, Pastors, Evangelists, Prophets/Prophetesses, Teachers, Grandma, Neighbors, Co-Workers, Parents, Spouses etc, week after week. We can quote scriptures faster than the speed of sound, and probably write them backwards.

But what happens, when the storms rise up in our own life? Look at James 1:22-23. Do we hear the Word and cast it aside as a doer, but not a hearer? When our life is tossed about like a ship on an angry sea? When that paycheck doesn’t cover all the bills, when the doctor says there’s no cure, when there’s death in the family, when divorce comes, when that son ends up in jail, when that daughter gets pregnant out of wedlock, when that spouse has an affair, when your job closes down, when the church folk are acting up from the pulpit to the parking lot, when the children are cutting up, when the car stops running, when the house note is due, when the last person you expected to back slide leaves the will of God, when you begin to doubt your own faith…..?

Will you get fearful and say “Oh what am I going to do?, or start calling Sally Sue and June Bug to see what they think?” Is the Word lying dormant in your life? Is the Word asleep in you? have you fallen asleep on the Word? You hear it at church, but by the time you reach the lobby, you’ve forgotten the title and all the scriptures.

Paul told the Hebrew church in chapter 4, “the Word is quick, powerful and sharp… and can discern thoughts and intents of the heart. All thoughts that the enemy has of you, or speaks of you; God already knows about!!! The Word of God combats these assaults of the wicked, and reassures us.
The Word has been sown into your life in every message you have heard. It’s resting inside of you on a spiritual pillow, as a very present help, just waiting for the time of need, waiting for you to stir up what’s in you, waiting for you to WAKE IT UP, so that it can RISE UP and SPEAK UP, speak to your storm and command it to be still, command you to be at peace, command you to lean NOT to your own understanding, but to acknowledge GOD….THE WORD, in all your ways.

That Word that you heard that says:
-“My God SHALL supply all my need…”, WAKE UP THAT WORD when that light bill comes!!!
-“Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but my God shall deliver them out of them all” WAKE UP THAT WORD when the devil launches his attacks!
-“…and with His stripes I am healed” WAKE UP THAT WORD when the doctors give a bad health report.
-”He that SHALL come, WILL come and will not tarry” WAKE UP THAT WORD when it seems your situation won’t change.!!!!

Look at Exodus 3:7,9 God has heard the cry of His people, and He’s seen our oppression and sorrows and affliction and WILL DELIVER.

Look at Isaiah 53:3 He was wounded, bruised for our trangressions and iniquities, but just so that we could experience PEACE, free from sin…He endured it all….just so we could be healed from sickness, he bore the stripes.
Look at Isaiah 53:7 He kept silent through his mocking, beatings, crucifixion, why? So that when we needed an answer a calming for our storms, He…THE WORD, could speak then….(He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth)

Look at Revelation 21: 5-7 Since God is the Word, we know His words are true and faithful. His promises are true. He is not a man that He should lie. He that began a good work in us, shall continue to perform it until He comes again. He won’t let us down. Allow the Word to dwell richly in you and in your situation. Tap into the Word. He is Alpha, meaning He is there at the conception of every life, and He will be there when this life is over, because He is Omega. He is His Word, and it shall never pass away.

All of life develops from a spoken word. Think about it…a baby is born, a word is spoken by the parents that becomes that babies name. When a person dies, the doctor speaks a word, declaring that person deceased. On a job, a word is spoken declaring you are hired or fired, in church a word is spoken declaring service has begun or ended, in the military, a word is spoken declaring war or truce. When Jesus was baptized by John, God spoke a word, declaring “this is My beloved Son in whom I’m well pleased.”

Wake up the Word in you, it’s deep down inside…deep calleth unto deep (Psalms 42:7), wake up that Word, use it, apply it. Lift up your eyes to the hills from whence cometh your help, and allow the Holy Ghost to call back to your remembrance the Word that should be hidden in your heart. Reap the Word that has been sown into your life. When the storms come, it’s Harvest time!!! Let the Word bear fruit in you!! Speak the Word into your life, call things that be not as though they already are. Life and death are in the power of the tongue. God has not given us the spirit of fear…but the spirit of “power, of love, and of a sound mind”.
When you begin to wake up the Word in your life, and speak the Word on your situation, I’m a living witness, the spirit of fear has to flee, that spirit of doubt has to flee, depression has to flee, insecurity has to flee. Your negative, defeated thoughts on the matter have to flee. Put the Word on it…Jesus told the devil during His temptation “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by EVERY word that proceeded out of the mouth of God.”
