what does it mean to be anointed

what does it really mean to be anointed. Webster says to apply oil in a religious ceremony. the bible says that the oil is just the cover and that the anointing comes from praying and asking God for His asistance.
Just like in ACTS 19 It talks about how Paul was becoming a preacher and these seven boys came to him for repentence and he anointed them with oil. the boys thought that because they repented for there sins they could pull demons out of people. they went to a man that was infested with a demon inside of him. they told the demon to come out. the demon said , I KNOW WHO GOD IS , I KNOW WHO PAUL IS, BUT WHO ARE YOU? paul is known for being anointed and demons feared him because he had God on his side. the seven boys were messed up by the demon.
