Its funny that after years go by we finally get what our parents were saying. I must admit it took me a while before I truly became a man. Yes, I became a man at 18, but that was just a age thing. Anyone can hold the title of being a man, a woman, a mother , a father, a Grandfather, Grandmother, a Christian, but saying you are those things and being what you say you are is a totally different thing. I remember the things my mother and father used to always preach when they would say ," Son its really hard out there and one day you will see the things I have been talking about. He would say things like nothing happens by chance and things like you have to work for everything you get or nothing in life is free. Then he would say as a man you have to make your own way in this world and you will be judged by your actions, fairly and many times unfairly, but if you have God by your side then there is nothing in this world you can not accomplish. You can be anything you want and if you just follow the rules, be patient, love yourself and always put God first, your life will be blessed. Boy was he right! Everything my mother and father talked about came to pass. Now I understand what being a man is and I also understand what walking with God by your side really means. Its means having faith in God, then yourself, loving him, then loving yourself, having confidence in God, then yourself. What all this means is trust God in everything you do, pray often, have faith that he will provide for you and no matter how hard life gets never give up. Because failure is just another step toward success and falling down is just a way of getting up. With God by your side you will have the comfort of knowing no matter what happens, no matter what you do and no matter how many storms you have in your life, God will always be there to get you through them. Through my pain and life's journey I became a man and closer to God. Its a shame that it took me so long to realize that my parents were very wise and that they were only trying to keep me from experiencing what they already went through. But as the old saying is," experience is a good teacher." Its just too bad that I did not listen to them then. But its never to late to learn and with God by your side your journey through life will be blessed.
Have a wonderful night,
Charles
