"YOU RANG?"

One of the shows I recall watching coming up was "The Adamm's Family", and when Morticia or one of the others wanted something from their butler, "Lurch", they would either call him or ring a bell, and he would respond and ask "You rang?" As I consider where the Body of Christ is,in intercession and prayer, and thef act that many are frustrated and baffled because it appears that their prayes are ineffective, and the hand of God must be "in His pocket"! TThe real truth is that we most certainly do make the mistake of trying to summon God in prayer, like He's "Lurch" our personal, butler, valet, or servant! There's been a great stir of "activities" and revolutionary tactics, strategies, and verbal eloquency, concerning prayer and intercession. There was a season, recently ,when someone rediscovered and launched one of the O.T. patriarch's prayers (Jabez), as the "Be all nad End all" for reaching God's heart. The interesting thing about the "Jabez" sensation was that this prayer was very broad, and did not diversely apply to the multitude of circumstances confronted by the average believer in their day to day lives, but nonetheless, it became the anthem for much of Christianity, and landed on coffee mugs, key chains, vanity plates, T-shirts, caps, notebooks, and Bible covers across the face of the earth. Men have always leaned towards "another man's prayers", instead of laboring in prayer for themselves! Before one can adjust postures, and shift with these ever changing methodologies and new approaches to "makeing one's request known to God", there are some very basic, never chaning factors that we must grasp, embrace, and employ, or Christ will continue to look at us quizically, and ask "You rang?" You see the revelation is that, if Christ has to look upon you, and question you about your interaction with Him, your voice, prayers, and presence are NOT FAMILIAR to Him, and you are "suspect"! It's pointless, unnecessary expense, and wasted time, for God's people to continue to run to and fro, trying to apprehend some mystical power that will make the devil fear them, by attending "war" conferences, and spending a fortune on books, videos, Jewish prayer shawl, greasing one's self down like a basted chicken, and "cominginahonda", if they have not come to the realization, that your lifestye, devotion to God, and obedience to His will are what really compel Him to interrupt a "trialogue" with the Holy Trinity ,because he hears and recognizes your singular voice, and for Him to put all other calls "on pause" to hasten to fulfill your request, and answer your dilemma! You can bathe in polyunsaturated "Crisco", or the purest virgin olive oil, tempered with spikenard, frankincense, and myrrh, but if your heart is not clean and your spirit is not right, you will just be a slippery, fragrant mess, still in trouble with, no way of escape. God is not impressed nor moved by loquaciosness, or eloquence, passion, depth, tears, or slobber! What compels Him, is one kneeling before Him indeep contrition, repentance with a Godly sorrow, meekness, and surrender! You will get the response "You rang?", (translated "Who are you?"), as long as you think you can continue to "act" as though you don't have issues with that brother who spread a lie on you, but you harbor deep resentment, or pretend that when you greet the "First Lady, that its really "all good", but inside you abhor her, and resent the way she snubs you. You will hear "You rang?", if you continue on in deception, lying, fornicating, sowing discard, pride, and disobedience! Don't think that you can sporadically carry on a "monlogue" with God, like a child sitting on "Santa's knee, about what you want, don't have, and all that's wrong in your life, and believe that God receive it as prayer, but you are sadly, in error. The very fact that you are sporadic in communication with Him, and that's usually in a crisis,should let you know that your responses from Him will be the exact same, "sporadic", and probably not in your favor! Position or rank is not a factor in this concept of Covenant agreement. The Lord owes you nothing, if you don't think enough about Him to discipline yourself to tabernacle with Him daily, in mutual communication, jst because He is the Lord, and He delights in fellowshipping with you! The next time you seem to be getting a consistent number of "return to sender" notices regarding your prayers, reflect on the pattern of your prayerlife, and commune with God, and I'm sure you'll discover the breach in your fellowhip with Him that compels Him to answer you with "You rang?!"
