THE BASIS FOR MERCY
Many do not understand that the basis for God forgiving them their sins is not because of the strength of their confessions but because of the honor of His name. If they understand this it will be easy for them to receive the forgiveness of God without any need for penance. No one can ever earn the mercy of God. It is freely given because God has to honor His name by making good on His promise to forgive anyone who confesses and repents of their sin. Are you under the guilt of any sin you have confessed? Listen, it is to the honor of God’s name and not to what you have done or can do to earn His mercy that made Him forgive you. Shut down the mouth of the accuser, receive the mercy of God freely given to you and blot out the guilt.
