I now understand more and more about this so-call world of "Hip-Hop". I understand now why "Hip-Hop"has really no place in our churches and yet it's slowly creeping in our church doors. After hearing all of this, I will stand behind fellow clergy members by NOT allowing "Hip-Hop" into our churches.

Pastors,Ministers and Church Leaders, would you allow "Hip-Hop" in your churches? Is this a way in keeping our youth in church? I am interested in all feedback concerning this issue.

As I stated before and will state again Dorsey, Crouch, and I will throw another group in, Commissioned all met with the same verbose opposition as hip hop is now. So then you are saying that the Word of God loses power when set to music?? What did Solomon say in Proverbs 6:2.There is no disconnect, you are saying things that I do not believe you mean to say, Regurgitating talking points that you cannot defend. Crouch fused R&B to make his form of gospel, Commissioned infused some early hip hop into their music. There is no disconnect you are respectfully not cogent of your music history, and are merely regurgitating talking points you heard from someone else.
Also keep in mind the quotes that you cite were made by children..... So they claim it is away of life, tell me Rev Spencer, do you believe every pronouncement that comes out of a child. If your child pulls the wings off flies, do you then start calling them an entomologist?
Actually, I believe some children can be quite profound in what they say.
Profound though they may be, they are children nontheless, and know honestly not a whole lot about themselves, and the world around them. This is why we do not allow them to make decisions for themselves until they come of age. This is why we do not allow them to make life altering decisions, this is why we allow them to live in our homes because they are children, they go to school because they are children and need to learn how to be in contact with the world around them, This is why when they make pronouncements about themselves we do not pay them heed because as adults we understand that they have not the faculties to make said pronouncements because they are children. When they pull the wings off flies we do not call them entomologists, when they are able to use six syllable words we do not call them linguists.....Making a profound statement here and there does not grant wisdom, even a fool is profound at times.
Or, like my grandfather used to say, even a broken clock is right twice a day. These are profound statements, Brother Anthony!
Regardless of the age, it has become the hip-hop mantra, it is not music but a way of life. namely, the thug life! Imagine, the thug life in the church.
Also keep in mind Rev. Miller, no one has really said that it is a way of life for years. Most of the children that were saying this in the 90s are now adults, and some even have children. Your logic would state that R&B is not a form of music it is a culture, after all I am sure either you or someone you knew wore Temptation boots, or wore their hair like the Temptations did, or wore an up do like Diana Ross did back in the day. I am sure that many wore clothing akin to both Bobby Brown and Luther Vandross. Music effects culture in many aspects, this is a proven historical fact. Especially in the past fifty years.
Yes imagine thug life devotees surrendering at the alter because someone who speaks their language was able to reach them. Instead of listening to you and your peers who in a very legalistic way would shut them out because of how they dress, and how they speak, and the music they listen to. Last time I checked there was no prerequisite to obtaining salvation. I am getting a bit indignant because the arguments you offer up are nonsensical, and ultimately you and your peers would shut people out of being redeemed. Salvation is not based on clothes, nor music, nor food.
I hate to say this but there are some folks truly hidebound by tradition. We need to consider the words of Jesus in Matthew 23:13, "But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in." as well as Mark 7:10 regarding making the Word of God of none effect by tradition. I am neither concerned with money nor with entertainment; rather, that the Word of God goes forth with simplicity, boldness, and power. If it takes hip-hop, country-western, standard hymns, or whatever, I DON'T CARE. We need to reach people at their point or understanding. I'm very cerebral and prone to deep thought and "fancy" words, however, I have to check intellectualism at the door when ministering to young people or in places where education is not honored. This blanket dismissal of hip-hop is full of prejudice and dangerous to the body of Christ.
What's dangerous to Christ is the thought that one does not need to repent or sacrifice anything so His death was in vain if you all had your way. Christ died so we would repent and start moving into holiness for the enjoyment of eternal life. Christ himself said to His disciples that they will be hated of men why because they were to preach things men would not like. He did not send them to join with the things of this world in order to fill the church instead he warn them that they were not of this world which is the very reason men would hate them. My Saviour shed His blood so I would have the chance to change and have eternal life don't use Scripture to try justify bringing serving two masters. We can’t have Christ and the things of this world. While you are at it why don’t we start building some idols, having orgies after all you all seem to want bring everything else in to defile the name of God? We are set apart; we are supposed to leave things behind. I love to party, listen to my music and all sort but when Christ call me I chose to serve him.

If the young people isn’t in the church look at the people who is preaching the message, maybe they need to stop sugar coating the message or maybe they aren’t ordain by God, because today everyone seem to be a leader and leaders must be ordain and chosen and call by God.

The Leadership is in question if people are not in the church, so don’t redefine the holiness of God in which we need to walk.

There was a time when the churches were full everyone went to church on a Sunday and schools taught Religious education and the preachers preach hell and hell fire but all that is lost because the preachers seem more interested in their own interest that that of God and while they were so busy having a free for all the world lost respect for Religion they come to think of it as a joke. Well my friends the time is fast approaching when we all need to think seriously whether we want to serve God or Baal. God want people in but not at any cost if that was so He would not have sacrifice His only begotten son.
I know this is probably off the thread, but I need to ask. Where, in the Gospels, did Jesus preach "hell fire?" I'll help you, He didn't. What He preached was the Kingdom of God. Not some pie-int-the-sky in the sweet-by-and-by but the at-hand, here-and-now, Kingdom of God! Jesus came preaching against tradition. But, instead of this, the Church has become so bound by tradition (and make no mistake, it is a bondage) that it has put on blinders such that it is unwilling to attempt new approaches to evangelism. Brothers and sisters, this is a sick and dying world out there and if we fail to minister to it, we will fail in our assignment.
"...Where, in the Gospels, did Jesus preach "hell fire?" I'll help you, He didn't..."

Oh really?
I think Jesus preached about 'hell' more than anyone. But here's a little something:

"And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into HELL, INTO THE FIRE THAT NEVER SHALL BE QUENCHED: WHERE THE WORM DIETH NOT, AND THE FIRE IS NOT GUENCHED. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be CAST INTO HELL, INTO THE FIRE THAT NEVER SHALL BE QUENCHED: WHERE THE WORM DIETH NOT, AND THE FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be CAST INTO HELL FIRE: WHERE THEIR WORM DIETH NOT, AND THE FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED."
