I now understand more and more about this so-call world of "Hip-Hop". I understand now why "Hip-Hop"has really no place in our churches and yet it's slowly creeping in our church doors. After hearing all of this, I will stand behind fellow clergy members by NOT allowing "Hip-Hop" into our churches.

Pastors,Ministers and Church Leaders, would you allow "Hip-Hop" in your churches? Is this a way in keeping our youth in church? I am interested in all feedback concerning this issue.

Maybe I misunderstood the question. You did say Hip Hop in the church. I meant HOLY Hip Hop, not to the tune of the worldly hip hop but scripture and testimony in a Hip Hop style. I have been very impressed with the youth that I have seen doing their holy hip hop because they are relaying to the youth and some of us older ones, the issues that they are facing and how through the Word of God they have overcome these obstacles. They quote scripture, they testify about where God has brought them from and how He keeps them through His Word. I have seen others accept Christ into their lives because of the word and testimony of some of these youth. God says that His Word would not return unto Him void. So if hip hop is a way to reach souls that would otherwise not be reached, so be it. The person that compares giving needles to a drug addict or beer to a alcoholic perception may be right if they are doing Hip Hop but if it is Holy Hip Hop that is a major difference. Sure they may have a different beat than the old time gospel that we are use to hearing but they are living and learning God's Word. What really counts in this situation is whether or not there is an anointing to their hip hop that reaches the people. The Holy Spirit is definately guiding these youth because the anointing is destroying yokes. They talk about the issues their generation faces, like the foul language, negative references to women, drug use and abuse. They tackles these issues in a positive way. If that is the way God chose to use them, who are we to judge. To God Be The Glory.
Sis. Harris,

God bless you; The Topic of this conversation is: Should we take songs that are curently "Hip Hop" songs change the words...keep the original sound, tune theme etc. just change the words and present them in the Church as "Holy Hip Hop"?

If the young peole are coming up with new music and new words than it is not Hip Hop its simply a Holy song with a faster beat and may God bless them. There is nothing wrong with that; and they are not the scope of this conversation.

Sister Harris,

I would not dare assume that you are my age, but your response leads me to believe that you are a mature Christian. And so my question to you is, did you need a certain type of music to draw you to church when you were a youth? Not every child is involved in ungodly behavior, I know of a lot of good children who are in the church and hip hop did not draw them there. The problem is, when our children (I'm speaking of black children) do something wrong the media is there to expose it. But I have never seen the media in the church house lifting up our children for doing good. This has given our children an unfair indictment in society, that somehow black children are more mischievous and need something to placate their deviant behavior, something like hip hop music, that will work, especially if it is somehow included in church worship. Yes, there may be some good that you see in regards to this hip hop movement in the church. But a person can take a Ouija board and change its appearance, make it look real pretty and call it an angel board, but it will still be a Ouija board.just the same.
Sister Harris...God bless you for the revelation you have received regarding destroying yokes. Sadly the religious spirit permeates many in this discussion and they cannot see beyond their own prejudices and preferences to observe a true move of God! Like you so eloquently stated, it is not about introducing the world's hip-hop to the church, but permitting the Holy Spirit to move through Holy Hip Hop in the Body of Christ.
I have read most of the post and at one time agreed with most of you. Our kids are being lost to the world, we have not been reaching the majority of the kids in todays world. They want to listen to Lil Wayne and other artist of the world, who is teaching our children immoral things. Paul said in the 1 letter to the Corinthians, chapter 9 and verse 22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. This is where I am. On March 27 of this year I have one of the biggest concerts to happen in the state of Louisiana dealing on this issue. God has truly blessed my hands with this issue and he will get the glory. Don't be so haste, if God could use a donkey, fish, whale he could certainly use these young men to get the glory of God. God is Good and Pray for us in this project and in all others. God bless.

Amen, Brother! God Bless You and your ministry in this endeavor!
If anyone on here listens to anything besides gospel music.. please shut up, and stop slaming people who listen to holy hip hop.. That spells HYPOCRISY!
First of all, to tell someone to "shut up" is awfully rude and very unchristian of you. Secondly, the discussion does not concern what a person listens to, it concerns the practice of trying make the church accept hip hop as something of a godly nature when it's not. I don't think anyone who listens to hip hop music is being slammed, if there is anything being "slammed" it is the practice of trying to include it in the church as something holy.
Spencer,

First, I am not Christian. Second, sometimes people need to be told shut up ;)
You are not a Christian and sometimes people need to be told to shut up, ok I'll leave that alone for the time being.
This discussion has been really interesting and enlightening for me. I can say this because it made me think about why I believe what I believe and it helped to strengthen what I believe and that is that Rap, Holy Hip Hop, or whatever you’d like to call it is a viable form of praise and worship. For any or all that I might have offended with my words it was not my intentions and I beg your apologies. However, for all I would like us to consider a particular passage of scripture that I have not seen quoted as of yet. It’s found in Mark 9:38-40:

And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us. But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. For he that is not against us is on our part.

This text in and of itself displays to us that although Rap, Holy Hip Hop, or whatever you’d like to call it may not be accepted as viable by individuals in the church doesn’t mean that Jesus himself is opposed to it. How do I know? Jesus plainly states that “He that is not against us is on our part”, which is the same as saying “Chill out fellas, we’re on the same team.” The only thing I’ve been trying to say this whole time is that everyone doesn’t have to understand, or accept Christian rap. You may forbid in your own church, however, when it’s all said and done it’s being used to the glory of God and that's all that matters.
Bro. Walton,

Your apology is accepted; I think you made some assumptions that as you explained were based on your own personal history within the COGIC church that you attended. I think that in context you are missing the point...of the conversation and thus your oppinon is formulated around that pretext.

The converation is not about generational likes or dislikes, nor is it about whether someone likes or dislikes a particular jenre of music, and if it were a simple matter of what goes on in an individual church; there would be no discussion to have; we all know that we controll what gets played in our own church..

(and before I go on...the statements that you make about those of us that do not agree with you are very offensive...it is very difficult for me to engage you when you are constantly insulting me....when you place us n the category as Pharasees, or people who are heeping bondage on the people or statemens of that nature it is next to impossible to expect any rational human being not to want to insult you back...It is quite possible for me to disagree with your position and not be a child of the devil at the same time; I might actually have a legitimate scriptual basis for my position)

The basis for this conversation is simple; Regarding the Church at Large: Should we take music tracks, themesongs of rapp artist an attach the word of God to them and pass them off as a "move of God" in otherwords should we take Hip Hop Songs and change the name of the song and the words to the song and resell it to the Church as Holy Hip Hop...the simple answer is NO!

The biblical answer can be found in the text you provided. "They saw some that were CASTING OUT Devils in thy name; notice they were casting out devils in name of Jesus...there only crime was that they did not follow the disciples...and Jesus did not condemn them...Presumably a new spirit will come into the place where the demonic spirit was cast out...that needs to happen!

The Music is a spirit...see...take "How to survive in south central by Ice Cube" if you change the name of that song to "How to survive in Christ...(for example) that does not change the spirit that motivated that tune...it does not make me suddenly forget the original song...my flesh will re-member that song....my flesh will re- dance to that song...take Rick James old song "She's a Super Freak!" now lets change the name to He's a Super KIng...That does not suddenly make the sound, the tume the spirit that made the tune holy! the devil can't be cleaned up! you can't just give him a bath and a new set of clothes and all is good; the only cure is to CAST HIM OUT! and what we are saying is not only CAST HIM OUT! But don't LET HIM BACK IN!

The Gospel Hip Hop movement is nothing more than the latest gimmick used to divide, distract, nullify the true effectiveness of the Church! Its a re-dressing of old songs and presenting it as new?!? can you see how that won't work...let's take your average criminal; this guy has been a murderer, rapist thief all of his life in prison for most of his life...would you give him a shave, a shower and a new suit and take him directly to the wedding to marry your daughter or sister? of course not! well that is what you are suggesting that we do with in the Church.

The Bible lets us know in the book of acts that we are to give the devil NO PLACE! not in our lives, not in our homes, not in our relationship and not in our church! It is misguided to think that in order for us to in souls we have to pretend that we are almost as wicked as the ones we are attempting to rescue! That is like saying lets go dress up like pimps and prostitutes to go win some pimps and prostutes!

Taking somthing that is filfthy and misxing it with something clean is the bases of Adultery, the foundation for sin and the ladder to hell; the bible is against it and so am I.
