Let’s Put an End to This False Doctrine

There is an unbiblical doctrine where people believe once they profess with their mouth, believe with their heart and become baptized in the name of Jesus Christ they are saved and cannot loose their salvation. This belief is sometimes known as Once Saved Always Saved (OSAS). Well let’s use just a little common sense and a lot of scripture to see if their claim is actually supported by God’s holy word!

Who Gets in and Who Doesn’t

I was going to save the main point for the end, but I know Israel’s attention span is short so I’ll cut to the chase! Let’s look at just a few scriptures and rely on God given common sense to see just how impossible the OSAS doctrine is.

Let’s read who will enter God’s kingdom, when they find out, and how this information is revealed’;

Rev.21
[2] And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Now this is what we all look forward to; entering New Jerusalem and eternal life is the promise God says He will give to all that obey Him. Let’s continue;

[7] He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
[10] And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,

Now let’s read who inherits all things and is allowed to enter this city and who does not;

[27] And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

So only those whose names are written in God’s book of life are permitted to enter.

Now let’s read the fate of those whose name is not found written in God’s book of life;

Rev.20
[12] And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

ALL of the dead were judged based upon what was written in the books. Let’s continue;

[15] And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

So whosever name is NOT found in God’s book of life will be cast into the lake of fire.

Let’s review’;

God’s word says ONLY those whose name is in His book will enter into His holy city. Rev.21:27

Anyone who is NOT found in God’s book of life will be cast into the lake of fire. Rev.20:15

You do not know if your name is in God’s book of life UNTIL the book is opened and your name is read. Rev.20:12,15, Rev.21:27

Now let’s turn for a moment to common sense to figure out another fact;

What will be the fate of a person that dies while their name is still written in God’s book of life? Before answering understand this, once you are dead that is it. Let’s quickly read the condition of the dead;

Eccl.9
[5] For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
[6] Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.

So a dead person cannot change their fate once they die.

Common sense right?

With that said, a person that dies and their name is written in God’s book of life WILL receive the promise of entering New Jerusalem and eternal life.

Think about it! To die with your name written in God’s book of life……can a person get any more saved than that? Of course not!

Now what it take to get your name in that book is a question that will be addressed in a moment. But for now let’s look at the flip side;

Is it possible to have your name removed from God‘s book? Is it actually possible for someone to do something that will cause them to loose their salvation? Let’s think about this for a second. What if it were possible for a persons name to be removed from God’s book and they died before their name is replaced? What is their fate? If it were not possible would there even be a discussion about it in the bible? Let’s search God’s word for such a discussion.

It All Boils Down to One Thing

Let’s read a conversation Moses had with God after returning from receiving the commandments. What we are about to read is really a plea to God for the wrong the people had done;

Exod.32
[30] And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin.
[31] And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.

Now let’s read Moses plea to the Lord;

[32] Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin--; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.

Moses plea to God was that his name be removed from the book of life. Now did God say that was something that was not possible? On the contrary! Let’s read what thus said the Lord;

[33] And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.

Notice God did not say it was impossible for name to be removed, He said quite the opposite!

Now I know this was spoken in the OT and some may think it was only for those of that age, so let’s search God’s word to see if someone other than an OT figure spoke of blotting names out of God’s book of life;

Rev.3
[5] He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

Well there you have it! Not only will names be blotted out of God’s book of life…..it will be Jesus Christ doing it!!!!

So it IS possible for a name to be removed from God’s book of life! And what is it that will cause a name to be removed? Sin!!!

And what does God say is sin?

“Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.”

So a name that is written in God’s book of life is NOT permanent! And if that is the case, salvation is not guaranteed! God tells us the one thing that will cause a name to be removed is breaking His laws, or SIN!!!

Now let’s go back to using common sense for a minute. If breaking God’s laws causes one to have their name removed from His book of life, shouldn’t keeping His laws cause your name to remain?

Common sense right?

Now I’m sure there will be some that try to refute this by quoting different scriptures, or not believe it at all, but the fact of the scriptures remain.

A NAME CAN BE REMOVED FROM GOD’S BOOK OF LIFE!!

Now let’s read some other scriptures further supporting what we have just read.

God IS Fair!

Ezek.18
[20] The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

Now we know what a sinner is. It is one that breaks the laws of God, which, according to God's inspired word, ALL have done. And the scriptures says he that sinneth shall die. Understand the death spoken of here is the second death. Now let's read what happens if the sinner turns from his ways, and stops breaking God's laws;

[21] But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
[22] All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.

So the sinner can change his fate, as long as he is alive that is. If he stops breaking Gods laws none of his transgressions will even be mentioned.

Now let's see if there is a flip side to this. Let's read what happens to the righteous when they stop keeping God’s laws;

[24] But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

So all of the good things a righteous person does can be wiped away and counted for nothing if he begins to sin. And does he have the chance to redeem himself? Let's read;

[26] When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.

Just like the sinner, if the once righteous dies in his sins, he shall die the second death.

This goes hand in hand with what God told Moses;

“Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.”

Gods ways are fair and equal for both sinner and righteous, just as He says in His word.

Now some may want to still believe that they know they are saved, and once they are, they always will be, but let's read one more verse to see if a NT person thought the same way.

Let's read what Paul had to say about the possibility of him NOT making it into God's kingdom;

1Cor.9
[27] But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

So even Paul realized that it was possible for him to blow the mission and miss the mark, if he did not keep his body under subjection. So we find that Paul didn’t even consider his salvation guaranteed.

Now we know for a fact there are some that are already in God’s book of life and they died having, “…a good report…”. But let’s read how close it will be even for them;

1Pet.4
[18] And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

Now if God’s righteous scarcely make it…..where does that leave you and I?

So there you have it.

If a person dies and their name is in God’s book of life they will, “…inherit all things…”!

For those that die, having done something to have their name removed, they will be, “…cast into the lake of fire…”!

God says these will be the ones who names are blotted out, “Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book;”

Nobody finds out until, “…the books were opened…”

If a name that has been removed is not replaced before they die and before the books are opened and read, the lake of fire will be what they inherit!

OSAS……just does make SENSE!!!!!!!!!!!

I would venture to say even the best of us commit some sort of sin everyday. Does that mean Jesus saves us fresh everyday? Of course not! Let's read the scriptures;

Heb.7
[26] For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
[27] Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.

Heb.9
[28] So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

So NO! Jesus does not die or save us fresh everyday! He died for our sins only once!

Jesus is now our High Priest. He now pleads our case everyday to the Father asking Him to forgive us of our sins.

Now just how long will He continue to do so, or how long will the Father accept Jesus request? Who knows!

The issue we should be concerned with is NOT doing those things we are not supposed to do and DO the things we are supposed to do so that God KEEPS our names in His book of life!

Don't you think God would have told us a name that is written in His book of life is PERMANENT if it were so? Would God have even had the conversation with Moses if a name could NOT be blotted out?

What does GOD ALMIGHTY SAY?

"Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book."

So a name written is NOT permanent. Even Paul knew this;

Paul said to us;

1Cor.9
[27] But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Does it sound as though Paul considered his salvation a given? No it does not. Paul states if he does not do what is needed, though he has taught other to do right, if he does not, he himself may not make it into God's kingdom.

.

.
Now you get my point,well said
Jesus doesn't have to save us fresh everyday...when he went to the cross it was for all sins of his chosen past present and future once and for all...

Hebrews 9:26 Otherwise, He would have needed to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now once at the consummation of the ages He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.

Hebrews 9:28 so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.
GB
I have studied and see both points, which are quite understandable. The fact of the matter is however, that if one accepts the LORD JESUS as the sovereign ruler and King under GOD the FATHER, then you shall be saved. If you turn back from that, however, then its like committing treason.

Salvation can be lost if one gives it up. Salvation cannot be lost if one wants to be kept. JESSU has the power to keep you, but you have the authority to be kept.

John 17:12 "While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled."
This scripture saids we are sealed.

Your statement says Jesus has the power, but according to the scripture, upon His resurrection he received ALL POWER, and yet you are saying we have the "authority" to be kept which is to say we can usurp His power. I find that "extremely" hard to believe.

Ephesians 1:13-14

In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with the holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession unto the praise of his glory.
EXACTLY MY POINT Chaplain. When one goes against CHRIST, they ARE usurping GOD's authority!! The world is not what GOD intended it to be simply because we have usurped GOD's sovereign authority! HE says "right", we say "left". HE says "go North", we try to twist the coordinates to North-East. The crime that sends us to the Lake of Fire and eternal damnation is classified as High Treason. We would be co-conspirators with Lucifer who is guilty of the same crime as well as Conspiracy to commit a Coup.

GOD's commands are not optional, they are direct orders. To go against the leading of the HOLY SPIRIT and to ultimately reject HIS voice is to usurp GOD's authority. You can't possibly find that hard to believe because its done literally ALL the time!! Salvation is not about the warm snuggly feeling of "accept Christ in your heart" like Evangelists have made it. Salvation is the acceptance of GOD's governmental authority and the reign of CHRIST JESUS, Prince of Life, and obedience to their every will and command. Outside of that, you are usurping GOD's authority.

You can be kept if you desire to be kept. In this, I can agree with Hezekiah when he says "keeping GOD's commandments", but we differ on just what commandments are GOD decreeing to be kept.
Trevor,

OK, I understand your explanation from the standpoint of be disobedient to God. However, I cannot see how my disobedience would cause me to lose or give up my salvation since I am not denying who God is or Christ is and their deity.

If I'm acting out in disobedience, it is because of a rebellious attitude in wanting to do what I want to do at that time. However, at some point in time, I will eventually surrender to God in shame and ask for His forgiveness because of the conviction of the Holy Spirit.

Example - if your child is constantly acting up because of his/her rebellious attitude, you are not going to disown him/her nor will you stop loving him/her. If nothing else, you will be angry and therefore do as parents do and that is to punish him/her for their bad behavior.

Now, when this child grows up into adulthood and he/she begin to live an ungodly life, you will still love him/her even though you cannot punish the child as you once did when he/she was little. You will not disown him/her but at the same time, you will find yourself showing tough love so as not to enable him/her to continue in their evil ways.

Bottom line, your child is sealed with your DNA. The big difference is that the child did not ask to select his/her parents.

We asked for salvation by faith and with all intent and purposes, start out on the straight and narrow path. Upon receiving our salvation, we were sealed with the Holy Spirit. Now, the rest is up to us to stay on this narrow path through our obedience to God commandments and continuous study of the Word. But, if and when we slip, and we all do because of the inherited sin nature, God is faithful to forgive us if we ask and repent from those sins as we continue this journey of life here on earth.
Very good points. Now lets take it here:

If your child is acting up to a point that they are blatantly going against your rules, there are different degrees of punishments that will be administered. The final option however will be a permanent removal from your home for their presence will be a total disruption and eventually destruction to the order set within your home. It takes a strong parent to do such. Your love for them has not changed, but your mindset on their behavior sees the truth. By the time that CHRIST comes, we should all be mature enough to know and do better. If we do not, and FATHER allows us in anyway regardless, it will contradict all of HIS righteousness!

Now lets go Governmental:

The King has given a decree, and to break it is punishable by death. It is sealed with His very own seal of righteousness. Not even King YHWH Himself can break this seal, for if HE does, He Himself would have to relinquishe his position. It was by the decree and seal and covenant that CHRIST our LORD Saviour, and Eldest Brother was crucified. If we act outside of this covenant, who will go to the cross again for us?? Therefore CHRIST Himself will send us there because we spat on His sacrifice. Does He still ove you? Yes of course!! Nothing can seperate you from the LOVE of GOD, but that verse doesn't say "nothing can seperate you from the PRESENCE of GOD", does it? His love and His presence are two totally different things.
Ok Trevor,

So, being separated from the PRESENCE OF GOD is not saying we lost our salvation - right? or wrong? Because I do understand that sin does separate us from God.

Let me say this for further clarification of my understanding.

Hebrews 6:4-6
For it is IMPOSSIBLE for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.

This scripture clearly tells me that IF WE ARE TRULY SAVED, we cannot do a 180 degree turn and completely and totally reject Christ, because to do so means we were never saved in the first place. This is basically what I am saying and believing that we are sealed with the Holy Spirit. When a person is saved, he/she may faulter from time to time, but like to prodigal son, they do return to the Lord with a repentive heart.

With all due respect, if you are still saying differently, then I'll have to meditate on that teaching for a while because I am not able to swallow that pill at this time.

Peace in Jesus
What the scripture is saying is;

For those that have been enlightened, tasted of the heavenly gift and partakers of the Holy Ghost, if any of these should fall away, it is impossible to renew them again unto repentance, since they have decided to attempt to crucify Christ again, and put what He did to shame.

It appears as though God is saying, "Look....if a person that I have enlightened, given My word to, even the gift of the Holy Ghost should turn around and begin again what they used to do, there will be no chance for forgiveness."

He said the same think in Ezek. speaking about the righteous turning back to iniquity;

Ezek.18
[24] But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

So all of the good things a righteous person does can be wiped away and counted for nothing if he begins to sin again. And does he have the chance to redeem himself? Let's read;

[26] When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.

.
I agree with you on this one 100%, Eccl.
They went out from us, but they were not of us: for if they had been of us; they would no doubt have continued with us; but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us. 1 John 2:19
