Is Your Name IN God's Book of Life, or Has it Been BLOTTED Out?

Once Saved Always Saved?

Let's read what the bible has to say on the topic. Let's read what happens to both sinners and the righteous. But before we do that let's look up the ONLY definition in the ENTIRE bible for the word "sin"

1John.3
[4] Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

Now we know what "sin" is AND we know what a "sinner" is. "Sin" is anything that goes against the Laws of God and a "sinner" is a person that brakes God's laws!

And just for the record, let's find out who has sinned;

Eccl.7
[20] For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
Rom.3
[23] For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Now let's find the fate of the sinner and the righteous;

Ezek.18
[20] The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

Now we know what a sinner is, it is one that breaks the LAWS of God, which, according to God's inspired word, ALL have done. And the scriptures says he that sinneth shall die. The death spoken of here is the second death. Now let's read what happens if the sinner turns from his ways, or STOPS breaking God's laws;

[21] But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
[22] All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.

So the sinner can change his fate. If he STOPS breaking Gods laws NONE of his transgressions will even be mentioned.

Now let's see if there is a flip side to this. Let's read the fate of the righteous;

[24] But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

So ALL of the good things a righteous person does can be wiped away and counted for nothing if he starts sinning. And does he have the chance to redeem himself? Let's read;

[26] When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.

So if the ONCE righteous DIES in his sins, he shall die the second death.

I would say Gods ways are fair and equal just as He says in His word.

Now some may want to still believe that once they are saved they will ALWAYS be saved, but let's read and see if a NT person thought the same way.

Let's read what Paul had to say about the possibility of him NOT making it into God's kingdom;

1Cor.9
[27] But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

So even Paul realized that it was possible for him to blow the mission, miss the mark and NOT make it into God's kingdom, if he did not keep his body under subjection.

Now there are some we KNOW will be in God's kingdom, but let's look just how close it will be even for them;

1Pet.4
[18] And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

And just who are some of the righteous that we KNOW will be in God's kingdom? Noah, Abraham, Moses, King David, the prophets and the 12 apostles, just to name a few.

Now if these JUST make it in, I can see why Paul says he himself may be a castaway if he does not continue to do what is right. And if THEY just make it in, where does that put us?

Let’s look at just a few more scriptures;

Exod.32
[33] And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.

Now let’s see just what book is being spoken of here;

Rev.3
[5] He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

WOW!!! Just think about that for a moment. A persons name that is written in God’s book of life can be removed!!! I mean......they were there!! Their name was in THE BOOK!!! So what could have happened for their name to be removed from God’s book of life? Could God have changed the rules? Not according to scripture;

Mal.3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not…
Heb.13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

So if God doesn’t change….. The only other thing that could have changed was THEM!!!!!

Now a name that STAYS in God's book of life until that person dies, then he is saved. But if a name that was in God's book of life is REMOVED and that person dies.................... ........................ ..well!

Is your name written in God’s book of life? Or has it been BLOTTED OUT? When will we find out?

"To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God."
"He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death."
"To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it."
"And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:"
"Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God,"
"To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne."
"He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son."

Prov.4
[7] Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

Adam and Eve had eternal life, but God told them if they disobeyed, they would die.

Please provide the scripture that said Adam and Eve had eternal life.

A classic example of one who lost eternal life is seen in Judas. The Bible says he was a friend of Jesus

When Jesus chose the 12 disciples, He told them He would make them fishers of men; He never said anything about them having eternal life at that time. Therefore, Judas never had eternal life. As a matter of fact, Judas was chosen for a specific purpose which had nothing to do with spreading the Gospel. Judas was a part of God's master plan for salvation. Do you think for one minute Jesus was unaware of what Judas was going to do? Didn't He make the statement in the Upper Room with His disciples that one of them was going to betray him?

If we could lose our salvation, we could never get it back without Christ dying again on the cross. He would have to die an infinite number of times (i.e., every time once-saved person sinned, was lost, and wanted to be "saved again"). Thus, those who reject "once saved, always saved," can only replace it with "once lost, always lost."

John assures us, "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that ye may know (present knowledge) that ye have (present possession) eternal life.." (1 John 5:13). To call it eternal life would be a mockery if the person who had it could lose it and suffer eternal death. On the contrary, eternal life is linked with the promise that one cannot perish - a clear assurance of "eternal security" or "once saved, always saved." John 3:16 promises those who believe in Jesus Christ that they "should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 5:24 again says, "hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation..." One could not ask for clearer or greater assurance than the words of Jesus: "I give unto them (my sheep) eternal life; and they shall never perish" (John 10:28). If having and received eternal life, we could lose it and perish, it would make Christ a liar.

Harris: "Please provide the scripture that said Adam and Eve had eternal life."

Everything in the bible is not always spelled out for us. Sometimes we must just use God given common sense.

Here is a question? What would have happened had Adam and Eve NOT eaten from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil?

And just incase common sense does not kick in, here is scripture;

Gen.3
[22] And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

Even AFTER they has sinned, it was still possible for them to live for ever, so God removed the tree of life. (Which really was not a literal 'tree'.)

Thank you Eccl for your prompt reply on Adam and Eve.

Now, will you care to address the question about Judas losing eternal?

Going to heaven? Can't find it!

The Bible tells us that heaven is God’s throne (Isaiah 66:1; Acts 7:48-49; Matthew 5:34-35). After Jesus’ resurrection and appearance on earth to His disciples, “He was taken up into heaven and sat at the right hand of God” (Mark 16:19; Acts 7:55-56). “Christ did not enter a man-made sanctuary that was only a copy of the true one; He entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence” (Hebrews 9:24). Jesus not only went before us, entering on our behalf, but He is alive and has a present ministry in heaven, serving as our high priest in the true tabernacle made by God (Hebrews 6:19-20; 8:1-2).

We are also told by Jesus Himself that there are many rooms in God’s house and that He has gone before us to prepare a place for us. We have the assurance of His word that He will one day come back to earth and take us to where He is in heaven (John 14:1-4). Our belief in an eternal home in heaven is based on an explicit promise of Jesus. Heaven is most definitely a real place. Heaven truly does exist.

Jesus second coming a "secret"? Can't find it!

Matthew 24:35-36; Mark 13:31-33

Teaching you do not have to keep God's commandments? Not there!

According to scripture, IF you are 'under the law'... then:

1) The law was written just for you.
2) Sin has dominion over you
3) You are without faith
4) You are in need of redemption

Matthew: 22:36-40

36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Observing the birth of Jesus? No where to be found!

It was never stated specifically in scripture that we are “suppose” to observe the birth of Jesus, just like it is not stated in scripture that we are “suppose” to observe our births (such as birthday celebrations). It is a choice and it was/is made with the purpose of acknowledging and praising God for the birth of His Son.

Jesus returning before the Tribulation period? Still looking for it!

The primary Scripture passage on the rapture is 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. It states that all living believers, along with all believers who have died, will meet the Lord Jesus in the air and will be with Him forever. The rapture is God’s removing His people from the earth. A few verses later, in 1 Thessalonians 5:9, Paul says, “For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” The book of Revelation, which deals primarily with the time period of the tribulation, is a prophetic message of how God will pour out His wrath upon the earth during the tribulation. It seems inconsistent for God to promise believers that they will not suffer wrath and then leave them on the earth to suffer through the wrath of the tribulation. The fact that God promises to deliver Christians from wrath shortly after promising to remove His people from the earth seems to link those two events together.

Observing resurrection of Jesus on 1st day of the week? Nope!

This has always been a topic of controversy. What is really important is that HE ROSE!

Saints removed from this earth to avoid God's wrath? Where?
(Same response as above regarding the Tribulation)

Having a holy convocation on the 1st day of the week? No way!

Not all Christian denominations engage in a holy convocation. You will need to ask the members of C.O.G.I.C.

Some saints receiving the promise before others? Really?

What promise are you referring to?

Different laws for the nation of Israel vs. the rest of mankind? No!

Christians are not under any laws other than man-made civil laws.

Communion on either every 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th Sunday! Not there!

This was/is a choice; it is not preached/taught that we have to celebrate Communion on any specific day.

Teaching you only need faith for eternal life? Wrong!

Faith in Jesus Christ as the Savior is the only “step” to salvation. The message of the Bible is abundantly clear. We have all sinned against God (Romans 3:23). Because of our sin, we deserve to be eternally separated from God (Romans 6:23). Because of His love for us (John 3:16), God took on human form and died in our place, taking the punishment that we deserve (Romans 5:8; 2 Corinthians 5:21). God promises forgiveness of sins and eternal life in heaven to all who receive, by grace through faith, Jesus Christ as Savior (John 1:12; 3:16; 5:24; Acts 16:31).

Salvation is not about certain steps we must follow to earn salvation. Yes, Christians should be baptized. Yes, Christians should publicly confess Christ as Savior. Yes, Christians should turn from sin. Yes, Christians should commit their lives to obeying God. However, these are not steps to salvation. They are results of salvation. Because of our sin, we cannot in any sense earn salvation. We could follow 1000 steps, and it would not be enough. That is why Jesus had to die in our place. We are absolutely incapable of paying our sin debt to God or cleansing ourselves from sin. Only God could accomplish our salvation, and so He did. God Himself completed the “steps” and thereby offers salvation to anyone who will receive it from Him.

Salvation and forgiveness of sins is not about following steps. It is about receiving Christ as Savior and recognizing that He has done all of the work for us. God requires one step of us—receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and fully trusting in Him alone as the way of salvation. That is what distinguishes the Christian faith from all other world religions, each of which has a list of steps that must be followed in order for salvation to be received. The Christian faith recognizes that God has already completed the steps and simply calls on us to receive Him in faith.

Eccl,

I'm still waiting for a response to this question . . . .

Now, will you care to address the question about Judas losing eternal life?
Please dont hold your breathe...We wouldn't want to see an untimely demise!

LOL
Trevor you are always on cue and I love it!

LOL
You have eternal life if you die keeping the commandments the best you can.. The Lord decides if you have sinned a sin unto death... No one has eternal life until the coming of the Lord... You can see an example of sinning unto death, when Saul became King of Israel, and it repented the Lord that he made Saul King. Saul sinned a sin unto death, meaning he is going to die the second death. I hope that answers your question Chaplain Harris.. If you want me to post scripture I will be glad to..

"No one has eternal life until the coming of the Lord"

John 5:24 reads:
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

When you hear the word and believe on Christ, you have (present tense) everlasting life. Nothing is ever said in scripture about receiving this life in the future. You have everlasting life as a present possession from the point of salvation.
