New Pastors: Advice for the New Pastors: The what "to do's" and not "to do's" on Day One

I remeber my first comments on the BPN was under Min. Lockett discussion regarding "My First Sermon." At that time I was like him "An associate minister, faithful, patience, prayerful, hard working, and preparing for the day when God's will would allow me to pastor a church. You hear the discussion all the time, "When I am a Pastor, I will do this and that. We dont covete the position but we see ourselves preparing for the opportunity. Well, my season is here. After prayer/fasting/listening I recently accepted the Letter from a church to Psator. Words can't describe how I have been feeling. I'm careful to request to stay in God's mercy, remain humble, listen twice before speaking once, trying not to fix things that are not broken, (that is another discussion) learning names, praying frequently, and teaching/preaching. Every Pastor who I know has called, emailed, & texted congrats but I'm looking for advice from some of the experience members of BPN to begin a discussion of advice to new Pastors. I would rather learn from others mistakes than make them. School can prepare you but on day one, life experinces re-train you. by the way, all those ideas you had racing through your mind before you became a Pastor seem to exit on day one. I would like to hear your advice to New Pastors. I have always been one to recieve advice and learn from it.

Pastor I can recall my first sermon as well. Nervous not knowing how the people will recieve me. 5 Years Later I was pastoring the church I spoke my first message. From That Day I have discovered alot and I share my experience in a Book that the Lord has lead me to write. And I know that it will be benificial to all New Pastors / Ministers in the Ministry of todays world. The Title is "To The Young Minister". This is also to the New Pastor as well. As I deal with my ups and downs in the Ministry. You can order my new book at www.newstpaul.com God will bless you through this word.

God Bless you, Brother. A lot of people are too busy talking to ever be teachable. These are the the people who will never grow to become what God intended for them to be. I have two words of advice for you:

1: Don't be ambitious. Your job is not to make it to the top of the ecclesiastical food chain. Your job is to do the will of the One who sent you - no matter what form your job may take and,

2: The majority of us ask God to make us into great preachers. Bypass this, Friend, and ask God to make you a great pray-er. Gather your strength and wisdom on your knees and it will spur you to be a walking sermon. Don't get caught up in the temptation to be narcisistic in preaching. It's easy to do believe me. Prayer will make you humble. Prayer will release revelation. Prayer will revive you and you will then be contagious.
Remember the little things. Apostle Paul is not one of the Twelve Disciples. Heaven helps those who help themselves is not
in the Scripture.Thou shall not be caught is not the 11th commandment.Division of Labour- You do the preaching But leave the Conversion to the Holy Spirit. No matter how well you Sound, You can never be Dollar, Jakes, Benny Hinn or Graham.Just be yourself.Put a smile on your face thats a sermon on its own. Be passionate. Be sensitive to the leadership of the Holy Spirit thats who you need to succeed as a minister.
I would like to SECOND this motion, this has been the loneliest time of my life when I became Youth Pastor for the size congregation we serve. We are a mid-size congregation in a middle class neighborhood of about 4000 active members, not sure of how many is on the roll. So I am responsible for about 700 young people, literally, actively and regularly.

My advice while seeking advice is to remember why we are here:

NOT to be PERFECT just to be INSPIRING! This should be a liberating notion

Wow! This Sunday will be my 3rd time preaching as co-Pastor. I am so nervous each time I get ready to preach a sermon. I pray and seek God for guidence. I am like you. I want some guidence and advice from some season people.
The two most important pieces of advise I have received and has worked for me as Pastor is; Gain the people's trust and remain positive at all times.
First you must have a vision of what you are called to do and what you want to achieve with your congregation. Then you are to be determined to succeed with your vision. Never be distracted by what others are doing, remain focused and determined. Love God, love the people you are ministering to. Love your work and assignment and do it with great passion. Remain faithful in prayer for prayer is a powerful instrument in ministry if success is on your mind. Make effort to raise godly and faithful men who will help you succeed. Invest in men who will later invest in you and your work. Preach and teach the word in season and out of season. If you make the grass green, the sheep will come to eat the grass at your church. God help you for you will need it.
Leave this forum in the name of Jesus CHrist... You have an evil Spirit upon you... A Jazebel Spirit, who needs to get attention... Needs to have their name in the reply column... I rebuke you in the name of Jesus Christ...!!!!!
Man you just re affirmed in my spirit what God has been trying to tell me for some time now. God bless you.
I feel you on this Brother I am looking for advice also
Shalom;

To all new Pastors. And I stand out to say that this is of my own understanding. But though out my first thirty plus years involved in the hearing and associating in the Gentile faith and later ministering in the faith of the Hebrew Israelite for these thirty plus years, I found out that the organization of the so called churches can be deprivation, yet it is needed for the unlearned. Never-the-less, the pastors or mininisters, if not deeply involve in the orgainzation, per-say, must have an open mind spiritually, and that is the eyes and ears to see spiritually. Because over the years, I have seen and hear many pastors, after finding out the Spiritual truth of what they had over look, or did come about to hear the truth of something according to the Scriptures, and they refused to teach or let it be known about the same, only because they were involved in the organization which didn't let them teach other-wise.
And there were special days which were celebrated that weren't Scriptures, but against the will of the MOST HIGH, and they were ignored because the organization of churches allow it to be.
So the new pastors or ministers will have to take a lot into consideration when he steps into that position and that is this ... Am I ready to teach the Righteousness of the MOST HIGH or the righteousness of mankind, and he should know the different, Amen!
