I think it is very important that preachers of today need to be seminary trained .

i say that because there are no more dumb folk in the church and i feel that it is a sad day for the preacher if he has somebody in the congregation that knows more about the bible than the preacher. Also i feel that if the pulpit is dumb then the pews are dumb.

Bro. Vaughn, Are you so hard of understanding English? Did you not read my comment? I do not say that Bro. Thomas should not go to seminary. Why are you so defensive brother? Nobody’s out to get you. Come out of the combat zone. It is my prayer that Brother Thomas not only pursue his dream, but that he accomplish the divine purpose and will of God in his life. I do not wish to oppose or hinder his purpose, I thought I was clear with my words when I said if he feel he should go to seminary, then he should go. I only say that seminary is not for everyone. I only say that just because a person does not go to seminary, does not make him any less fit to carry God’s word, and to communicate it effectively and successfully. I am sorry that I don’t dot all my I’s and cross all my T’s. I am sorry I didn’t use the (LOL) as I did know that was a rule. I also did not know that in not using it, my lack of learning was exposed. Maybe if I had gone to seminary…(LOL. Bro. Vaughn, there is a world of difference between a painter and a preacher, but since you brought it up, I happen to be a not too shabby artist. I wanted to go to school to hone and perfect my skill, but was not fortunate enough to go. People say I’m good. Some even say I’m great, but I could be o’ so much better if I had gone to school. I now teach some locals at the Boys & Girls club, and I find that know matter how much they learn, or how badly they want it, unless there is an inborn talent for it present in them, they can never be great artists, in spite of the education. What I’m saying is, if Brother Thomas desire seminary, that’s cool. Be it far from me to try and dictate another man’s path in life. This is his way in choosing. How can I judge? If I judge a man for going to seminary, I would be no different than those who judge a man because he did not go to seminary. Again, Bro. Vaughn, and Brother Thomas I am humbly sorry that my words were misunderstood. Maybe I could have worded myself better. As Kung Fu would say, “I do not wish to fight”. LOL. But I still do not agree that preaching is a craft. I believe that is what put Bro. Vaughn on the defensive. But it is not. That word “craft” is something that our biblical educators have gotten from the Masonic jargon that has filtered into our biblical educational system, but then I won’t go there. Bro. Thomas, if you need the book that Vaughn mentioned, leave me a mailing address, and I will buy the book for you. I really want you to make it. Everything I say is in love. I mean no malice. I fear God, and am careful how I handle his people, especially preachers. I love preachers. All of them. If I have erred charge it to my head and not to my heart. I was only responding to an open forum. Didn’t know that I would cause offense. I simply say, If I being uneducated do not take offense to your education, why would you take offense to my lack thereof? Is not God a wise God? Did he not hand pick us all? If we are all then hand picked by God, Then are we all qualified to be preachers, both educated and uneducated? God bless you brothers, God give you peace.
Pastor King, thank God for you , I can hear the spirit of God speaking through you   in love. Jeremiah 3:15 says "AND I WILL GIVE YOU PASTORS ACCORDING TO MINE HEART, WHICH SHALL FEED YOU WITH KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING". keep the faith, trust in the Holy Spirit, He will teach you all things.
@BROTHER KING ALL I CAN SAY IS I REALLY DO NOT KNOW HOW HURT YOU OR MADE YOU MAD BUT TAKE A STEP BACK STOP BEING ANGRY,BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE TO ME WHAT I HAVE READ WHAT YOU SAID YOU HAVE A HIDDEN ANGER TOWARDS GUY'S THAT WENT TO SCHOOL IF THAT BE THE CASE THEN LIKE MY GRANDMOTHER TOLD ME KEEP IT TO YOURSELF.IT IS ALMOST LIKE YOU THINK THAT IT IS A BAD THING AND I REALLY THINK THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY RESPECT FOR THOSE OF US THAT DID GO TO SCHOOL OR LIKE SOMEBODY SAID CEMENTARY AND THEY WHERE WRONG FOR THAT AND THEY KNOW WHO I AM TALKING BOUT.IT IS GOOD THE WE ALL COME TOGETHER AS BROTHER'S AND SISTER'S OF CHRIST,BECAUSE GOD HATE THE BROTHER THAT SOWS DISCORD AMONG THE BROTHER
Wow! I will expound on this later! Bishop G. E. Patterson was not a seminary trained preacher, are you suggesting that he didn't fit the bill?
G. E. Patterson is one of my favs. He was somebody's preacher for sure. God knows how to pick'em. God Bless you preacher.
Well said Rev. Luckett.I agree with every word. We are all God's chosen. It should not trouble one or the other whether seminary is attended or not. So long as the gospel is being preached. When I was living in Atlanta, I had some not so pleasant experiences with pastors who at first received me as a peer, but when they learned that I did not attend seminary they closed their doors to me; not because I wasn't a good preacher, nor because I wasn,t articulate. Not even because I wasn't educated, because I am all of the above, and was in great demand by the people of God. I was taken to a room, and was surrounded by men who offered to do great things for me, to open many doors, and to even set me up and support me in ministry if I would go to seminary. I respectfully declined. They took it as a slap in the face. They said I was arrogant and think that they can teach me nothing. Brother these thoughts never crossed my mind. I was just a poor kid from Mississippi trying to establish some roots for my family. I dealt with ministry the only way I knew how at the time. It was working for me. I just didn't want any interference with my ability to connect with God's voice. I was young and very dependant upon God's voice. Too many other voices, although their intentions were honorable only offered me confusion. This is not the case with everyone. I have now been preaching this gospel for 25 years and have not regreted not having attended seminary. But if my own son decides to go, I will support him, and help him to go, as that is his choice, and his path. I don't know for the life of me how what I said ignited such a flame. I only believe that all of us are equally capable of fulfilling what a wise God has called each of us to, whether we are seminary taught or not. God keep you brother. I just have a problem with people looking down on others when they think they have something others don't have; using patronizing and condescendng words like little brother, and young preacher, etc. as though they have arrived. Truth be told, none of us have arrived. I do not debate this issue. I just want to clarify that I believe that both going to seminary is cool, and not going to seminary is cool also, for the steps of the righteous man are ordered by the Lord. Let God lead you. It might be so that He desire seminary for you or not). I believe that since He did the calling and the sending that it should be His choice. The wisdom of God abounds toward you.
Rev. Luckett, It is important for you to know that you have a great wisdom that comes from God. Believe it or not, few men have the portion that you possess. It is very important that you recognize this everyday. God trusts you. He will require much of you, as men need what is contained in you. That which is in you is of God, and the wisdom that you possess, you have of God. I see you in the spirit, and you walk as though you have wings on your feet. Continue to let Wisdom lead you man of God. Be blessed my brother. God be praised.
G.E. Patterson may not have gone to seminary, but he saw the need for seminary training and founded one!
I agree but have to say that I personally believe God has reserved unto himself a place in what we commonly called mainstream ministry for those that lack academic. He chooses and elevates whom he will with or without degrees. I have thought this through over the years and have concluded that he does this to show us that he wants us to be educated and skillful in the word but he's still God.
I've watchd him take a drug addict out of a gang, raise him up in the same neighborhood he was gang-bangin in, set him over millions of dollars for community empowerment and do that to the max(google, potter's house in Jacksonville Florida. This is the orignal Potter's House before Jakes.)...he went to school later but God deided to use him powerfully as is......
Please don't misundestand, we should get our learning but we better keep our burning!
It is my respectable opinion that one does not need to attend a bible college, or a seminary to get further biblical education. I personally have a problem with bible college and seminary. In bible college and seminary, they teach you only what they believe, and they do not give room for other views on the doctrine. There's no room for an individual to really see all the views before making a decision to believe whats being shown to them.

Another thing is that, in my opinion, bible school doesnt really give you full coverage of teachings for one to have sound doctrine, and a sound ministry.

I think self education is the best education a person can get. If you really want to be a bible student, you can take it on yourself, instead of spending thousands of dollars for the schooling. I am personally a self study bible student, and I have a library of books that I study.

To be an effective bible student, you must follow the historical, contextual, grammatical, and linguistical(language) approach.

I do agree that, since the overseer of the church is the leader, he should have that leadership over his people even in his doctrine. His people should look up to him as their shepherd.

Sadly, even today's overseers of the church lack solid theological training.. why? because even after their seminary training, they stop studying. They think they have arrived. That's a no no. Bible study is a lifetime study.

The sad fact is that over 90% of students that finish bible school do not continue their education. They simply go into the ministry, and just bank on what they know, and never grow to learn more. Very few overseers know the bible in its historical, contexual, grammatical, and linguistical manner. This needs to change, and it starts with me, and all of those bible students who are sick and tired of false doctrine and teachings.

Its time to bring the early church back to its early days.

We need to be serious about our walk with the Lord, and agree with what Ezra said in Ezra 7:10,"For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel."

Where are the true warriors of the Lord who will stand up for truth-- a word that is viewed only in terms of relativism? How do we stand up to a nation that bleeds syncretism---- the blending of various beliefs? How do we defend our faith against people of different world views? It all starts with having a foundation of Gods word.

Let us sharpen our swords, and fight this battle to win!!
Brother Pierce I disagree with your statement if that was the case Jesus did not just turn his disciples a loose he trained them. So like wise Black preachers need to be trained because let's face the music there are no more dumb black people in the church anymore now if the pulpit is dumb then the pews are dumb. Also it is not about you belivieng in the Doctrines that the professors teach it is all about knowing who and whose you are. Now any preacher who takes this art and craft of preaching serious and loves to hone their craft would go to Seminary.
It's not a CRAFT Bro. Vaughn.
Bro. Pierce, You express yourself very well. You appear to be a very articulate and capable stewart of the mysteries of God. Bravo, my friend. People continue to say that if the pulpit is dumb the pews are dumb. These same "educated" people continue to make all kinds of grammatical errors; continually using words out of context, and their syntax is well...judge for youself. e.g. "Jesus did not just turn his disciples a loose." A LOOSE? What's a loose? I'm sure he meant the word loose only. Maybe the A is silent. Check out this following double negative: "there are no more dumb black people in the church anymore". No more anymore? What's up with that? But although there may be grammatical errors present in these sentences, I being among the unlearned can yet understand the words of this learned man. Bro. Vaughn, I still respectfully do not agree that the preaching of the gospel is a craft to be honed, but the mastery of the english vernacular should probably be considered (hint hint). I do not have contempt for a man because he have not mastered proper standard english. I only pity those who think less of another's gift (not craft), because his head wasn't wiped on the seminary walls. If you want to learn and hone a craft, sobeit. But if you want to learn and hone a spiritual gift which you have gotten from God, then know that it is not an art, nor is it a craft, It is power. It is spirit, and it is life. Should I insert an LOL here? I'm not sure. But for the sake of diplomacy I submit an LOL and a smiley face:). God bless you Brothers.
