What does prosperity mean to the Body of Christ.  Does it has any place in teaching, is it

for the body, should it be taught or should it be ignored.  What is biblical prosperity?

What does the bible has to say about this topic?

Brother Day,

What? If Paul writes that Jesus who had everything gave it up to come to earth and save us from our sins! How is this tiptoeing around any verses? In fact I stick with the context of the passage while those of you that believe and teach that false doctrine of prosperity are the ones that tiptoe around the whole of Scripture!

Ok Brother Pastor, let me ask you point blank. Is it God's will for any of His children to be in poverty? I just find it hard to believe that a man, such as yourself -- who God has abundantly blessed -- be so opposed to prosperity. Keeping it real, I am not saying that everyone will or should be millionaires; that is absurd. What I'm saying is we should have all we need to do the work of the Kingdom while we are serving as His Ambassadors here:

2 Corinthians 9:8

And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having allsufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

My dear Bishop!

I am only opposed to false teaching, if it is someone saying that God in his all sufficient grace wants all his people to have all that they want, I can’t agree with that. It is due to that not keeping with the revealed will of God; (His Word) every passage you quote and then try to apply is out of its immediate context. For more than 1,900 years this teaching was not an issue and yet here we are debating the truthfulness of this. I will stick to the context of the chapter.

The latter part of this chapter shows Paul’s knowledge and use of the Old Testament, here at the end of verse 9 he quotes Psalm 112:9 which is a Wisdom Psalm.

The Psalm is based on the teaching found in Lev 19:9-10; 23:22 Deut. 24:19

I am sorry that you may not agree with me, I just follow the text!

Pastor Sweet,

I, too, am opposed to false teaching. I am also opposed to incomplete teaching. It seems that you are content with getting people to heaven, and that's okay. However God gave man dominion in the earth -- that means to subdue, control, and benefit from its bounty. Stick to the text, you say? I counter that you choose to stick to your seminary professors' interpretation of the text.

I would contend your instructors have more degrees than a thermometer but no more power than a bicycle. It has been said that a man with an experience is never at the mercy of a man with an argument. I have seen sinners saved, sick bodies healed, and poor people made wealthy IN THE NAME OF JESUS! I am standing in faith to even see the dead raised! Have you encountered a miracle of God? Brother, I hope that you will -- soon -- so that the callous around your heart may be circumcised.

You probably don't feel the need to preach about prosperity because everyone around you is at least comfortably middle-class. It's easy to ignore the prosperity aspect of "sozo" if all your need is met according to the fruit of your labor. Me, on the other hand, I am the product of a single-parent household in the "hood" of Detroit. I know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, the prosperity I experience is beyond my own ability!

The corner of the Gospel you're teaching will leave the believer weak and powerless instead of strong in the Lord and victorious. I would urge you to lay aside your seminary-infused preconceptions and return to the Spirit-filled, Spirit-led interpretation of scripture.

I will post no further replies as I am convinced nothing short of a Holy Ghost revelation will change your mind. Love you, Brother!

Greetings Pastor Sweet,

Why so much commentary. Yes or No.

The context of chapters 8 & 9 are about money and giving and offerings and receiving and sowing.  And being financially productive.

You know God has sense enough to know that if we were corrupt by money we would not have a way to procur money.  Some of us have jobs, careers or own businesses.  Money is not a god it is a tool used to advance the kingdom of God.

In Christ

Greeting Bro Day. U R a blessing!

I am only replying again because I see my last reply never made it to the board.

I see that we are still doing this huh? Why? Truly you neither need this guy to validate you, nor anyone else. You are a Bishop correct? Is any one on this panel under your leadership? There are so many people who could use your knowledge to break the cycle of poverty, and sickness, and unrighteousness.

U have the spirit of the Word, and are directly helping those who are ready to go on and proceed out of poverty and use their faith on purpose. Pontificating whether God wants  everybody blessed with wealth and health, should never be a issue for believers. The blessing is to EVERYONE but it is only on the believers who activate their faith for the promises they find. The laws of prosperity are for everyone. It doesn't matter if someone doesn't believe it.  Don't worry they wont get it. The blessing of atonement is for everyone. God wants everyone saved too but it is only on the believer. Deliverance is to everyone, but it is only on the believer. Why is it absurd that everyone be a millionaire? Did Jesus promise hundredfold or not? Is this Jesus the same one who said for God so loved the World that He gave His Only begotten Son? Why activate our faith for that verse, and not hundredfold as well? Giving and receiving is to everyone, but it is only on the obedient.  What?

If I choose not to give to receive then I'll get what I sowed for.  If I do give to receive then I will get what I sowed for.  I eat the word on healing and I am healed.  I eat the Word on prosperity, and I get prospered. What?  If I choose not to to receive Jesus as my Lord, I will not get the blessing that goes along with that.  If I choose to receive Jesus as my Lord then I get the blessing from that. What? I am out of this 2 year long dialog.  Bishop bless those who celebrate you, and don't bother with the ones that only tolerate you. It doesn't matter if anyone doesn't believe in Gods Word on prosperity. It's too late cause it's working for us and many more that are adhering to, relying on and trusting in His promises. You can not debate on results!

Pastor Paul,

It is you who is the blessing, my Brother. And, as always, you have brought the truth into clear focus. I have posted one reply to Pastor Sweet and I am finished. I thank you for your kind words and I am looking forward to further laboring with you for the Kingdom!

Dear Bishop Day and Pastor Paul

I am always looking to reason with those that hold views that are different from my own; it is my way sharping my skills. It distresses me that you Pastor Paul would rather not enter into dialog but call off our conversation.

Brother Bishop I have appreciated over the course of this year your willingness to engage even when we did not see eye to eye. I would like to thank you for your time and encourage you to keep studying the Bible as I know you will. May be we will engage in another discussion. To both of you be blessed till we meet again.

Rev. Rodrick Oliver Sweet, BSL, Th.M Student

Thank you Pastor,

yes sir I am willing to discuss anything to a point, but this dialog has been going on for two years. Too many people who want to hear it need our time. I have no time to give opinions. My mandate as an Ambassador doesn't allow me to. Yes sir I'd love to minister with you where U do what you do, and I do what I do. I think we can really bless the world.  But we have to all speak the same thing, and be joined together in the same mind and judgment as Paul said in 1 Cor 1:10

Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

1 Cor. 1:10 This forum is to help get clarity. Once we step pass that and we start sharing knowledge that totally disagrees we are on the wrong path in front of witnesses that need healing now! Need Prosperity Now! Need Deliverance Now! While we are pontificating, they are dieing. The Cross speaks for all who want it, and anything given by grace must be appropriated by faith. We must show people how to get it not just talk about it.

Thank God for your training, but now we step into the work to get results. Blessing of peace BE upon all your work. Take heed of the ministry you have received of the Lord to fulfill it:-)

Pastor Phillips this is in no way me becoming intense in this dialog; in fact I would love to keep going I think that we are one to something, meaning that you that teach prosperity and those of us that don’t must engage in more discussion so that the Body of Christ becomes more and more knowledgeable about the Bible. That is all I seek to do on this network. One of the great things about going through Bible College and now Seminary is that we learn to deal with people that hold a view that one may not.

It is at that point that the two engaged in the dialog become friends, what sadden me most is the lack of academic discipline in the area of writing so that people would know that this is not personal or intended to make any one upset.

Pastor Paul the results that I am looking for on this network are to be the voice of orthodoxy here. Our ministry is doing just what the Lord has allowed and we look forward to what He does through us in the future. One thing that I believe that all orthodox believers are called to is contend for the faith (Jude 3b). This is one part of ministry I love and live for. Hope that we will continue this and many other dialogs. Truth and grace (John 1:16) to you and your ministry!

Greetings Pastor Sweet,

It just seemed that way from reading some of the blogs.  I was engaged in like discussion with a young lady and she got up set with me.  I just dont want healthy debating to go sour.  Like one of you guys said earlier iron sharpens iron.  I really believe we are learning from this discussion.  We are forging friendships as well.

In Christ

Amen My brother, and we shall indeed do just that!
