Over the years, I have heard many men and women in the holiness denominations say that women shouldn't wear pants in the church.

Were is the scripture to support the ideology that women shouldn't wear pants? If it is in scripture then I would have to ask why are men wearing pants? Did men wear pants in biblical times or did their wear something that covered their loins and then long robe like attire? I mean isn't that what you depict in your biblical plays? So why aren't the men being asked to wear similar apparel in the church to maintain a outward appearance of holiness? Why aren't they asked to not cut their hair (both facial and head)

What are the clothing designations for men in the holiness denominations.

After all, without holiness NO man/woman shall see God.....

Well,  Yes

1 Thessalonians 5:21-23 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good., Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Appearance in this context brings a cultural element that may be different  (physically) from culture to culture regardless, it is quite clear that this is referring to the Outside the Visible, it is clear then that God wants us to abstain from things visible ( clothing, actions et al) That would give the impression of evil upon a child of GOD ! -

Well, Rev. Watson,  I think now you are "eisegeteing"  me!.  Thats ok though (lol)  If what you call the 21st Century Mindset is a Culture and that culture thinks ties are evil then we should not wear ties when living and operating within that culture.  Goes right along with 1 Corinthians  8:9  Be careful, however, that the exercise of your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak. Now bear in mind I was not talking about church clothes vs non- church clothes  many  of my members come in jeans and t-shirt and shorts and they are allowed to sing testify etc.  However a pair of pants becomes evil when I am in a culture that believes that it is and I refuse to adapt to the Culture to be a proper witness for the Lord ! So like I said .  Within the appropriate cultural context, I am able to obey the verse by wearing a burqua  in the middle east - appropriate clothing in Africa and such.  Can you imagine trying to convince someone that you are Good, when you trample all over thier cultural understanding of the same-  Thats why Paul said  Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law.  To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law.  To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.  I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

In the  bible their are not call pants they are call breeches, and if you look up hebrews the women wore appearl that was around, and humblely speaking Ive never seen a round pair of breeches, breeches were for the men priest when they wendt to minister at the alter.so the Lord told the men priest to put the breeches under their atire so that the men.priest wouldnt see their. private part or be revealing.

Sister Smith means the Hebrew word miknac, which appears in Exodus 28:42, 39:28; Leviticus 6:10, 16:4; and Ezekiel 44:18. It describes an article of clothes to cover the priests nakedness "from the loins even unto the thighs."  Sounds more like underwear than trousers.
I cant remember seeing the word breeches in the Bible but then again I could have missed it.  The Bible was written over a 1400 Year Span and by many different people in different countries and customs etc,, Now,  what you are mentioning Ms. Smith sounds like the priestly undergarment? Within the time period of the Bible however  a loin Cloth was what was worn as underwear ...

When a woman walks into the "House of God" to worship, does her outer appearance really matter?  If a woman comes into the "House of God" and is in need of healing and deliverance, does it really matter if she's wearing pants, a dress, a skirt and blouse?  Does the outer appearance really matter when a woman (or anyone for that matter) has their heart set and fixed on worshiping and serving God?

Too often we miss out on ministry opportunities because we are stuck on someone's outer appearance.  I believe everyone - both men and women - should be modest in how they dress.  1 Timothy 2:9-10 talks about women dress in modest apparel such as is becoming of someone who worships God.  It makes no specific mention of pants or any other article of clothing.  If that's the case, some of the suits, hats, etc that some women wear to church is not modest at all.  I personally find some of it distracting.

I find it alarming that we are still trying to determine a matter of the heart based on outer appearance.  If as a woman, you find it offensive to wear pants, then don't wear them.  I personally don't think that the issue of women wearing pants in the church has nothing at all to do with what may or may not be written in scripture.  I believe it comes from a time in culture when it was thought that women (inside or outside of the church) shouldn't wear pants.  In my opinion, the choice to wear pants doesn't reflect a person's holiness.  For there are many who worship God with their mouths but their hearts are far from Him.

Humbly submitted....

This teaching came about as a result of a misinterpretation of scripture. There is a scripture that says a woman should not wear anything that pertainetwh to a man, but that couldn't have been talking about pants because men didn't wear pants in bible times. What that was referring to was this to was this. In bible times women weren't allowed to fight in battles so if a woman wanted to fight along side the men they would wear an man's under garment to give the impression that they were a man. I don't believe that this was something instituted by God it was probably instituded by the government of that time.

Dear Men and Women of God,

I think that you are trying to urgue with God on many things and this wont help any one on this planet earth what you are trying to do is to thing that God made a misytake to creat us as man and woman finary let God solve this proble /urgment for He is the initiater of all this you knoe little and we can tell what is what for we are all human so try to think about other things like what can we do to reach the unreached for there are many who need your testimonies they are in need of a saviour and many need feeding for fimine is everywhere due to problem brought around by our masters/so called politicians and those who masters the world affairs thing of helping the HIV/AIDs victim but matters regarding who should put on what you are free if you think so but one day each one of us will be unswerable before God on all that you think that they are right even though they are wrong.

Be blessed and bless others in other communities

If you noticed I said it is a misinterpretation of that scripture. That book deals with several different topics, however, that particular verse does say that a woman should not wear that which pertaineth to a a man and a man should not wear woman's clothing. Other versions of that scripture clearly say A woman should not wear a man's clothing and a man should not wear a man's clothing. And there is a passage where a woman wanted to do to war with the men but the wouldn't let her so she put on a man's under garment to fool military officials.

Just what do you go to church for,  Do you go to serve God? Or do you go there for fashion,  Well I something wear pants to church, A nice pants suit,  Nothing is wrong with that,  Times are different now that what they were when we were coming up, Back 30 years ago you bet not had a pair of pants on NOT a women,  And men had to wear suits with a tie,  But time have change,  You still have people that wear suits to church, I am talking about women,  But you have some women that can't afford a suit,  They have children to provide for because their is no man in the house,  I have some beautiful suits that I can wear to church But every time I walk into a church i see a young lady with 4 or 5,6,7, Children with and she is wearing what she has and  its not a suit,, Because she can't afford one, So I stop wearing suits to church, Now i wear nice pants suits, Why? Because I feel sorry for some of our women who has never had a suit on there back,  So now when I go into a chuch not only do i have on pants but I sit next to them and we praise God. Because that's what we came to do, Not for a fashion show.    God Bless.

Or better yet, why not take her to the grocery store and buy food for her and her children?  Why not offer to  help her pay a utility bill?

She's not coming to church naked.  But she and her children may be coming to church hungry or at risk of having their electricity or water being turned off.  She and her children may be facing eviction because she's struggling to make ends meet.

Often people are not ashamed of what they have to wear to church until someone in a "suit" offers to buy them an outfit to wear to church.  One of the things I love about the church I attend is whether I choose to wear a nice suit/dress, a pair of jeans with a t-shirt and tennis shoes, or decide to wear a sweat suit, it doesn't matter.  We all still come together and worship God and hear the Word of God.

My thing is those children can't eat a suit when they're hungry.  They don't care about a suit when their stomachs are growling or they themselves don't have clothes that fit and they are constantly growing.  I pray that the church come out of the idea that everyone has to be dressed or look a certain way and begin to minister to the inner man - the spirit.  I pray the church will stop focusing on the outer appearance and minister to the real needs in the body of Christ.  There are too many people who are sitting right next to us in the pews who are dying spiritually.
