Amen yes it is... Acts 238 and Acts 2:4.

Greetings Brother Paul Thomas,

Other in the Body of Christ will say that "Speaking in Tongues is not The First Evidence of being filled with the Holy Ghost" here are the Scriptures that they would use.

Acts 4:31- When believers are filled, First speak the Word with Boldness, not speak in tongues.

Acts 8:17-20- Shows us that when believers are filled, it is Revealed that Simon of Samaria has evil motives.

Acts 9:17-20-Shows us that Paul was healed when he was filled.

Yet others, to your point, would use Acts 2:4, Acts 10:44-48, and Acts 19:6.

What we do know for sure is that Speaking in Tongues was an important function in The First Century Church and remain an important function today.

The Reason why I thought this discussion was important is because it has been effective in Personal and Communal Prayer in The Life of The Church, And Paul took great care in explaining it's function. Not to mention, in the modern era, caused the split between The Pentecostal Movement and The Holiness Movement.

The Pentecostal Movement in Large says, Speaking in Tongues is The First Evidence of being filled with The Holy Ghost.

While The Holiness Movement in Large say, Speaking in Tongues is One of The Gifts of The Holy Ghost, and could be evidence, as well as the other Gifts.

Thank you sooo much for your input...I think this subject is very important to The Body of Christ...Because we all know, when Believers are filled, The Gospel travels faster and stronger empowered by The Gifts of The Holy Ghost!

God Bless You!!!

nope scripture is clear, the first evidence of being filled with the Spirit is Regeneration, This is a Devine act of God's Spirit that makes a sinner dead in his sin's alive unto God. Jesus said unless you be born of the Spirit. This is clearly before Tongues. Always the Experience of the Cross is before Pentecost.

Greetings Prophet Jeromy A. Smith,

Your Right! Regeneration....The Cross before Pentecost!

However, The question of evidence or signs is the focus of the discussion, unless your refering to Holiness or Holy living...some evidence seen with ear, eye, nose, mouth or touch.

For example, Mark 16:17 says...

AND THESE SIGNS SHALL FOLLOW THEM THAT BELIEVE; IN MY NAME SHALL

1. THEY CAST OUT DEVILS.

2. THEY SHALL SPEAK WITH NEW TONGUES

3. THEY SHALL TAKE UP SERPENTS, AND IF THEY DRINK ANY DEADLY THING, IT SHALL NOT HURT...

4. THEY SHALL LAY HANDS ON THE SICK, AND THEY SHALL RECOVER

God Bless you, and Thanks for you insight.

Sir it sounds like you dont understand the bibles postion in Regeneration. a quick study will show you that this is the first work of the Spirit that makes him alive, in order for him to even be saved. "AND THESE SIGNS SHALL FOLLOW THEM THAT BELIEVE; IN MY NAME SHALL" in order for a person to even pocess saving faith and believe the Spirit of God must first do a work inorder to make it possible. The Bible teaches the first evidence of the spirits work in ones life is him or her being born again.

Greetings Prophet Jeromy A. Smith,

Sounds like you haven't read the discussion question.

We all "should" know what Regeneration is and it's usually something that is personal...no one can give witness to The Transformation but the person who has experienced it.

While "The Signs" we discuss, are things everyone (The Saved and Unsaved) can give witness to.

Please read: Acts 2:16-18 and 1 Corinthians 14:22

"Tongues are for a Sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not."

I don't know if you know this, but being Born-again and being Filled with The Holy Ghost are two different things!

God Bless you Sir, and thanks for commenting!

Greetings Mick,

To avoid a circular discussion ( you believe Some Gifts of The Holy Ghost, namely Tongues, Prophecy and Knowledge Ceased around 55 A.D. and I believe All The Gifts of The Holy Ghost including Tongues, Prophecy and Knowledge are still in The Christian Church Today... "Alive and Well.") I would like to focus on the statement "Prophecies will fail" according to 1 Cor. 13

I am suggesting that Prophecy can "Fail" in The Spirit of Jonah The Prophet! Remember when Jonah The Prophet proclaimed that The City would be destoryed in 40 days? What did The People of The City do? They Repented and God did not destory them in 40 days...because they found Grace!!!!

-Jonah 3:3-10

Deut. 18:20-22 does not apply here. We know Jonah was a true Prophet, and we know the prophecy was sure...but Man had free-will to Repent and God choose to grant Grace! That's what The Scripture meant by Prophecies will fail. It's very simple.

It's reasonable for Paul to talk about growing in The Lord while on this earth, and that when he leaves his body to see Jesus face to face, be "Matured". In 2012, using some Gifts of The Holy Ghost now, while not using other, is not a meter to see how mature one is in Christ. The Holy Ghost can and will give Gifts to believers as He choose! Yes you need The Foundations of Our Life-style: Faith, Hope and Love to come to Jesus!!! But let's not "Reach" in our opinions about The Other Gifts of The Spirit.

God Bless you Mick, Thanks for taking the time!

Straight Line Logic

Your claim that Prophecy, Tongues and Knowledge...Gifts of The Holy Ghost CEASED in or around 55 A.D. is a Faulty Claim, that can not be supported or proven according to God's Word.

Common English understanding of these words: Cease, Fail, and Vanish have different meaning, yet you ignore this simple fact.

If one would use The Greek words: Katarseo- Fail or Vanish and Pauo- Cease, your interpretation would still have fault in your claim That Prophecy, Tongues and Knowledge Ceased in or around 55 A.D.

As you have pointed out in Jonah's Prophecy "failing" he said in Jonah 3:4- That in 40 days Nineveh would be destoryed. But because Mankind has free-will and choose to repent....And God is Compassionate and chosse to have mercy. The Prophet Jonah was accurate, but his prophecy failed because The People obtained Mercy...very simple. Read it for yourself! Prophecy did'nt cease, because The People found Mercy, That particalar Prophecy (did'nt happened or failed) because of The Mercy God granted.

Yes, it is resonable for Paul to talk about growing up while he was on the earth. And like you, I agree that this happens to all Christians. Your "Reaching" comes when you say "Tongues, Prophecy and Knowlege was put away in or around 55 A.D.".

God Bless Mick,

James

Example of Prophecy, Not happening, or "Failing".

THE BIBLE says: Jonah cried out in the City of Nineveh "Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!" - Jonah 3:4

Because of Man's Free-will, The People of Nineveh said they were sorry or Repented,

And God did not overthrow them in 40 days- Jonah 3:10

God's Mercy and Man's free will can cause certain Prophecy to be "changed" or "fail".

I Agree with you, The Prophet Jonah knew God was Merciful and it was always a possibity That God would not overthrow Nineveh, if they Repented. And this would cause Jonah's prophecy to "fail", not because it was false, but because Man obtained Mercy! And so Deut. 18 does not apply. Jonah is not a false Prophet, just a seasoned one, who knows that God is Merciful and if Man Repents, there is a possibity that God will have Mercy.

As for explaining what Paul was speaking of in 1 Cor. 13:11, we must not need to jump to conclusions and say Tongues, Prophecy, and Knowledge has Ceased since 55 A.D. Especially since there is no Bibical proof for this theory.

But what we can say with All Assurance is That Paul was speaking about 1 Cor. 13:10!

"But when that which is Perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away!"

Many Theories and Educated guessing will be done away with, because we will Know!

God Bless you Brother Mick and Thanks for being a Student of God's Word...It's very refreshing!

Amen!

God Bless you Brother Mick, Pray all is well with you and your!

Romans 8:23

Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan
inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our
bodies.

Notice the Word reads First Fruit of the Spirit, but it doesnt say speak in tongues....But what does it say Groan inwardly, for what? our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

-Also Known as one of the works of Regeneration

Act 1:8

But ye shall recieve power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses...

Notice the Word highlights The Action!!!
