Should a pastor that spends most of his time preaching and teaching get paid for what God has him to do? I know what the scriptures says about this, but would you pastor for free?

Ministers of the LORD should have all their needs met by the Kingdom of GOD and its citizens. Take Apostles for example: the equivalent to an Apostle from the Greco-Roman era is today's Ambassador. An Ambassador does not get a steady paycheck, but has ALL expenses charged to the kingdom that they are hired by and represent: food, clothes, travel, room, vacations, ect.

If we treated our ministers with such a biblical respect, such blogs wouldn't even exist!
I must say, I have read through this blog and I noticed that almost all the opposition of Pastors/Ministers getting paid came from people that are not in full-time ministry. Its a totally different walk when:

- you are in a great job, earning 6 figures, and one day the LORD says "time to quit and step out on faith"
- the Prophet/Prophetess calls you out and says "pack your bag, you're going on full time missions"
- the needs of the church/ministry begin to conflict with the job hours you work, and now you have to choose
- you pray, and pray for provision, and all you keep getting for an answer from GOD is 1st Corinthians chapter 9

These are not uncommon, these are actually literal examples that I have either witnessed or even experienced myself. You may have hated the "prosperity messages" before, but the moment you kick into full time ministry you'll see that after a while you too will find that Luke 6:38, 1st Corinthians 9, Ecclesiastes 11, 2nd Corinthians 9, and a HOST of others actually start leaping off the pages to you not by your own desires alone, but by the SPIRIT of GOD guiding you into all truth.
In a church it is a tradition that a pastor receive compensation for his gift.

It would be a little unusual if a pastor did not receive anything!!!
I Pledge to differ, with all due respects Jesus, did not recieve compensation for his gifts he was the ultimate gift. I beleive that when you are preaching/Ministering the word of our Lord God, He will take care of us. he will cause the people to sow unto us without us having to beg or charge a price to preach God's word which is free for all to recieve. I am in ministry and it requires monetary funds to keep it functional but I have always trust that God will provide and he does.

Please do not see this as an insult to anyone in God's great ministry and for all that are doing his work with an humble heart and in all spirit and truth, but some are not in it for the right reasons some are in it to collect....

Respectfully replied,
Minister Lorraine Joseph
Yes, the LORD supplies, but the point of the scripture "bring all ye tithes into the storehouse" is so that there actually IS a supply for HIS servants. What is HE going to do with money, spend it? No, but one of the things that HE will do with it is to take care of the Ministers working for HIM. The Levites had such a compensation, and so do the Ministers of today.
You couldn't said it any better, Many are called, some are sent, others got their Bibles and they just went. I'll continue to say this, the formality of a ministry is the hidden agenda/motive to operate a business. It's real!!!
This is God's business we are engaged in and his resources are endless and vast.
I think we ALL can agree God can provide and God will provide.
People of God we sincerely need to wholeheartedly trust him and we will have MORE than enough.
WELL, NO WORK FOR THE KINGDOM COME WITHOUT MERRIT, SO IF YOU WAS TO HAVE THE CHANCE TO PASTOR FOR NO SET PRICE AND YOU DO IT WITH GOD'S GUIDANCE AND IF DONE WITH THE HEART IN THE RIGHT PLACE. I BELIEVE THAT WE DO REAP WHAT WE SOW, WHATEVER IS REQUIRED OF US AND IF IT MEAN SERVICE FOR FREE; KNOW THAT IT IS TO OPEN A NEW DOOR IN THE PERSON'S LIFE, REMEMBER IT IS SAVING SOULS.... AND YOUR DESIRE TO DO JUST THAT WOULD HAVE TO BE EVIDENT, THAT YOU ARE DOING IT FOR GOD, NOT FOR PERSONAL GAIN, GOD WILL REWARD THAT PERSON TREMENDOUSLY!!!!!
THIS PERSON WILL HAVE A PLACE IN HEAVEN

KHADINE
I believe a pastor should receive a salary especially if its a full time job. A pastor is on call twenty-four hours, seven days a week 365 days a year. Its seems as though some are taking this question to another place. Lets not turn discussions into arguments or discord. Come let us reason together.
AMEN!
FIRST OF ALL I AGREE WITH SIS.GRAVES THIS DISCUSSION IS GETTING A LITTLE OUT OF HAND AND IF MY WORDS SEEMED A LITTLE SHARP I 'M SORRY FOR THE TONE ,BUT NOT THE WORDS.WE ARE ALL SONS AND DAUATHERS OF GOD.WE SHOULD BE ABLE DISAGREE AND NOT ALLOW DISCORD TO CAUSE A DIVISON BETWEEN US.
Are you in this for the money or to see souls saved.? The LOVE of money is the root of all evil...
