Should a pastor that spends most of his time preaching and teaching get paid for what God has him to do? I know what the scriptures says about this, but would you pastor for free?

Bro Davis..you are correct...it is the Love of it,that is the root......but we never mention the "cause"and it is this point that gets grossly overlooked........."cause"if church folk would "give"then the "root"the misappropiation of why it's there in the first place, would stifle people's "love"to hold on to it,instead of using it for the administration of God's Kingdom........saved souls need teaching, sometimes they need food, clothes, shelter, bills paid........if you don't "bring into the storehouse"where will the "meat"come from???
Yes the Pastor should recieve a salary if the church is able. They that minister the gospel should live by the Gospel. Some say well Paul the Apostle didnt recieve financial support from the Corinthian Church. My responce to this is that he told the Corinthian Church that he robbed the other churches(not in the literal sence) But this was to let the saints at Corinth know that he was almost lavishly supported by his other churches The only reason Paul the Apostle did not recieve support from the Corinthian Church, is because he gloried in the fact that he was ministering to them for free, while those who were opposing his ministry were being paid. This was also a mark that Paul was an authentic Apostle. Because when you are an authentic Apostle, eventhough you should recieve financial support for your service. You will serve even if you dont.

Yes, the Senior Pastor should be paid. They should also as the Church grows and can afford have the Church provide health, and life Insurance, a retirement package and vacation pay for the Pastors. The Senior Pastors job is almost non stop. If they are not working at the Church, they are on call, supervising and consulting with there staff or fasting , praying and studying or working to see the vision of the Ministry carried out. No matter how many staff or volunteer workers, the Pastor has an awesome job. They should be taken care of before a musician or anyone else. They are the visionary, the C.E.O and the Shepherd of the Ministry. Many Pastors work to pay guest speakers, musicians and work on secular jobs to provide for there families and than Pastor full time. Its an abuse of there Pastor. As the Church grows, the Pastor should be paid regulary a salary and have benefits.
To all you musicians that read this...you should note that if a church won't pay a Pastor......you can forget it.
I would definitely Pastor for free. The Call means much more than the money. Every church is not at the place to pay there Pastor, but my prayer is that they realize that they should, and they are trying to get to that point. for some strange reason people think that Pastors don't have bills. Yes Jesus did pay for it all, but we need money to pay our bills. Many Pastors work and Pastor at the same time and they juggle the two real well, But if God makes away for the Pastor to go into full-time ministry, i would highly recommend it. The other Job can take your energy, your focus, even your passion from the work of the Lord.. Before I became Pastor i can remember sitting in a conseling session with my Pastor, and while he was giving me and my wife counsel he was falling asleep. Part of the reason for this was because he had another job. So yes i think a church should pay there Pastor, but if they are not able to at the time they should be looking for ways to do so.So all of his focus can be on the kingdom.
Should a pastor give God's word freely, or should he be paid to preach? Paul also addresses that question. In 1 Corinthians 9:3-14 he answers some people who were saying he could not be a true apostle because he did not take money from them when he preached to them. His answer is that he would have been well within his rights to do so, but didn't in order to reach even those who would have objected to his being paid. He concludes in verse 14, "Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel." Speaking of elders being paid, he told Timothy, "Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour [pay], especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward." (1Timothy 5:17-18) In both passages he quotes the Old Testament, saying that just as an ox should not be muzzled that he not eat the grain he is threshing, so a preacher should not be muzzled by not paying him. It is God's will that we learn from preachers, and that preachers be paid for teaching us. Having said that, a pastor should not "force" the church to pay hiom. People must give joyfully.
For the mission field yes, as God would provide, as if it is "God's will, it is God's bill" He has called, He certainly would provide.. certainly would, and to walk in faith not by sight, is what He requires.. MiriDebBekah222
I FIND THIS TOPIC INTERESTING, ALWAYS BEFORE YOU ANSWER STUDY THE QUESTION,
IF JESUS ASKS YOU WHAT DO YOU WANT?STOP TELLING HIM WHY YOU WANT IT.TELL HIM WHAT YOU WANT
MY ANSWER IS YES HE SHOULD DO IT FOR FREE.AND HE WHO GAVE HIM THE JOB MUST PAY HIM IF HE TOLD HIM HE WOULD PAY HIM.PETER ASKED JESUS WHAT WILL WE GET BY FOLLOWING YOU?JESUS SAID LANDS,HOUSES, ETC SO PETER KNEW VERY WELL WHAT HE WOULD BE PAID FOR FOLLOWING JESUS.
.I HAVE PREACHED FOR 12 YEARS WITHOUT A PAY I AM FULL TIME AND STILL PREACHING
I HAVE PREACHED TO THE POOR, HUNGRY, NAKED,SICK, A PEOPLE YOU CAN NOT DARE ASK WHY THEY CANT PAY YOU,I WALKED 50KM A DAY PREACHING,I HAVE SLEPT IN THE STREETS, IN A LATRINE BECAUSE HAD NO HOUSE, I HAVE GONE HUNGRY, I HAVE BEEN BETRAYED BY MEN OF GOD, ALL THESE BUT I STILL CONTINUE PREACHING,I HAVE SHARED WHAT I GET WITH BRETHREN.I DON'T BELIEVE IN POVERTY BECAUSE I AM NOT,IT IS NOT THE WORD OF GOD NEITHER THE PROMISE OF GOD,
Yes I do belive that a pastor should be placed on the financial charts, but only if the church can afford to
My brother you are right, these ministers dont see far, they need to look at the situations in india, africa and many other parts of the world to promote the work of God,well if they understand the kingdom of God it will make a different, but it is all about understanding the kingdom.
My brother...some of the problems in these places are caused by man.......especially in Africa where their own leaders take and rape and pillage the land and people of it's resources...resources that God implanted in the greatest continent on Earth...and until India stops worshipping false gods they will continue to have the problems that they have....we need just as much done here in America as we do in other places......before we run off making "prosolytes"every where else,we need to get "home"done first.I am very much in favor of outreach, but first things...there are mission-fields right around the corner from every church in your hometown......to leave it untouched to go half-way around the world to save people who worship rats in India is a travesty.....help save those down the street from your church....then.....empower them.....TO GO AND HELP SAVE THOSE ABROAD.Be Blessed
Now Rabbi....you know you wrong......for calling out Paula like that...cause she is "vertically challenged".....MAN!!!!YOU ALRIGHT WITH ME!!!!CAUSE YOU RIGHT!!!!!But a lot of people "WORSHIP"THESE "PEOPLE"and have set them up as litte g.o.d's...I got people mad with me right now because I said that Sis.Juanita Bynum needed prayer in her suitation...AND THAT SHE NEEDED TO GO SIT HER.........WE'LL....I'll keep it clean...praise Jesus....BUTT.....OR BOOTY......CAN'T SAY WHAT I REALLY WANT TO SAY!!!BUT YOU FEEL ME????DOWN!!!!!AND STRAIGHTEN OUT YOUR OWN HOUSE...WHILE YOU FLYING FROM PILLAR TO POST TRYING TO TELL OTHER FOLK,HOW TO KEEP THEIR MAN....AND IT'S ALL ABOUT MONEY!!!!
