Over the years, I have heard many men and women in the holiness denominations say that women shouldn't wear pants in the church.

Were is the scripture to support the ideology that women shouldn't wear pants? If it is in scripture then I would have to ask why are men wearing pants? Did men wear pants in biblical times or did their wear something that covered their loins and then long robe like attire? I mean isn't that what you depict in your biblical plays? So why aren't the men being asked to wear similar apparel in the church to maintain a outward appearance of holiness? Why aren't they asked to not cut their hair (both facial and head)

What are the clothing designations for men in the holiness denominations.

After all, without holiness NO man/woman shall see God.....

I agree 100% with you, in fact the two comments before yours, the polyester and cotton(I don't think they had polyester in the old testament and the one saying it was the womans fault in the garden. My bible say's "and Adam was there" when eve not only ate the fruit, but when the serpent tempted her.
And he did eat too.
Minister Busby, I agree with you on not PURPOSELY doing things that you know will cause your brother or sister to fall.

However, I encourage believers to be careful of becoming people pleasers. There is balance to everything. I guarantee you that there will frequently be someone who does not agree with what you wear, what you say, what you do. Somebody will have a comment about how something you are doing is hindering their worship.

Where I work, people complain about so many things that distract them during worship. Two ladies came up .. one to complain that the music was too loud, the other that it wasn't loud enough.

Another Sunday, one said that the the praise leader's clothes were too casual and they were distracted in worship.. another said it was just right for a contemporary service... LOL

Friends, I wonder if the angels are worried about what the other angels are doiing in this passage?

Isaiah 6
1In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the LORD sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

2Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

3And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

(Hey, did you see what Seraphim Jessica was wearing at worship today??? Doesn't she know we don't wear purple wings to worship? I couldn't even get to the third Holy because of what she was wearing") LOL
Beautifulo response

that's the main problem we to busy looking at what each other are doing, wearing, saying, even how another persons physical appearance is, and personally I prefer dresses in the house of the Lord, just because of obedience, but let's get over it because satan don't care about your prada, gucci, d&g,  dior etc etc,,,,,,pants we need to make sure the WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD is on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are so far off base with your remarks brother man! You need to read more before you attempt to quote. I also find offense in your statement. Then, to agree with the statement from Zozo lets us know where your mind is; you need to check your position and status. If looking at a pair of legs gets you aroused you need to stay locked in a cage. Yes, I said it and mean it. It makes me so sick that men cannot look at a beautiful creation of God and only see with their fowl and filty eyes. Women are made to be admired, adored, appreciated, loved, respected and protected. A man that has a problem with arousal just by looking at a woman's attributes is a sin individual!
LOL.. I've seen women wear dresses and the dresses were more revealing than pants! LOL It would be better if they wore a robe than a dress because women's clothing (pants and dresses) are made for the contour of their bodies. Even the long dresses to their ankles contour their bodies. So if it a matter of modesty. then neither dress nor pants IN THIS DAY AND AGE keep it modest. Even the church marm suits are contoured now and not the former what I call the "refrigerator box cut " style.

Womens dresses come in at the waist and so do their suits. So when a man says he wants a woman to wear a dress does he distinguish between what kind of dress?

I work at a church.. been here in the Worship and Music ministry for over 10 years. and the Executive Pastor over the staff decided to send out an email to everyone with pictures of what to wear and what not to wear so that no one came up with their own perspective of what he was saying.

So again, when I am told to wear a dress, I have to ask, what do you mean by "dress". I know the blatant cleavage and butt showing dresses are out of the picture, but again, if you are trying to set a tone and keep everything modest, well, the heart of man is deceitful and desperately wicked who can know it? I can wear the most modest dress and put on perfume and before I know it, some man has me naked in his thoughts just by the perfume.

You see, and I am not saying we should do this, but there were several reasons why the synagogues were built with separate locations for men and women to worship... the distraction of the sexes is one of them. Keeping them separate to avoid sexual activities in the temple. But if you don't study culture you will rarely get an understanding of that wonderful Bible you read.

We too often try to turn our Bible which is based strictly on a Hebrew culture, paradigm and view point and try to turn it into an American / Western thing. Don't you realize that our Western culture is more Hellenized than Hebraic Biblical??? Our archictechure is Hellenistic. (By Hellenized I mean Greek influenced) We are a nation founded on rebellion... the spirit of our nation is rebellion and we try to ignore that fact.

Ok back on topic, I always counsel a person to obey the rules of the church they attend. And if you can't obey the rules for whatever reason, then you don't need to be there! Plain and simple. If the house rules are to wear a dress and you are not one to do that and don't believe that tasteful pants will hinder worship, then go someplace where you can worship freely without the hindrances. Some people don't like contemporary music in worship becuase they say it doesn't set the atmosphere while others will raise their hands and freely flow in worship in that atmosphere.

Elder Byron, you said:

I feel the problem is old as the Garden of Eden, the woman wants what they will never have, the same authority as the man.

My friend, I must disagree with the generalization that a woman wearing pants is her desire to have the same authority as man. Speaking for myself, I am fully aware of the hierarchy in God's kingdom and I know how to submit to that hiearchy. And as I shall soon be married, I have no problem with his authority in our soon to be combined homes. Sometimes, the contraints that most churches put on worship in an attempt to set the atmosphere breeds more confusion than clarity.

The most spirit led churches that I have seen and been a part of were the ones who dealt heart of man/woman than the outter appearance.

Unfortunately the church has become a hospital for the whole and not the sick. Many people are turned away from the church because they don't feel adequately dressed. I hope we will one day be more about bringing "church" the body of Christ to people instead of bringing people to the church and asking them to be "outwardly circumcised"

I encourage everyone to read Romans 2 (the entire chapter)

And 1 Peter 3:1-6

1Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;

2While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.

3Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

4But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

5For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:

6Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

Also,

1 Samuel 16:7
But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."

No, I do not suggest letting leaders and even mature members wear to church any type of hoochie mama or pimped out outfits as they must set an example of modesty... but one thing a former pastor told me was WHOSOEVER WILL let them come in.

I've always wondered if an chuirch's effective evangelism team were to invite the folk from the hood and the streets to their church, would those person be welcomed by the ones in suits and ankle length dresses??

Is it more important to bring folk to the church or bring the church to the people.

Again, is a church both a triage and a place of teaching... or just a place for Believers only?
Amen..amen..amen....Go 'head wit' yo' bad self Doretta...Don't hurt 'em hamma...LOL
Amen!!!!!! Sheesh! Toatlly AGREED! The person with the lust problem needs to get delivered not just say people need to change what they're wearing. That issue lust and distraction is there everywhere they go not just in the church service! I'm curious as to how the men feel about women wearing skirts vs pants at work? Or any other place for that matter. Is it a struggle to get your work done when a female co-worker walks by in a pair of pants? Just wondering. If so, the problem is not everyone else it's you.

Sister you the real deal. Cause even sitting next to my wife in church can be a distraction especially when the word strike a cord of LOVE between us, regardless of what we are wearing. And further more yes, I realize in Ethiopia, the first Christian nation in the world, they still separate the men and women in church- men on one side women on the other- this ensures your eyes and attention is on the service not each other. Many in church are single looking for a Godly fairing mate, by right. Been in church only eight years now and come to realize why the ancient churches operated the way they did. When you look good, you look good. That's it. It is said the only one's God took away humanly lust from was Adam and Eve, Therefore women and men need to learn to control their humanly desires and lusts, especially when your married. AMEN

Thats a weak minded christian and a lame excuse. For the bible tells us to cruifiy the FLESH DAILY. If a man walks into a church and get excited by some legs then he needs to be at the altar. The morality of the church was already defiled when you thought of it. See you already had sin by your thoughts and because you haven't like i seen a preacher wrote ealier you SUBMIT yourself to the will of God.
Have to agree with you on this one! I am what others call a Holy Roller and God has blessed me with a RADICAL Praise for HIM!!! I have been given the nickname "shouting John"!! In other words, when I start shouting, I don't need NO focus on my legs!!! or any body part. Besides; dresses slow me down and some of the dresses I see on some (in and out of the House of the Lord)...Is it a dress or a skin tight mask or a too low below the neck drape or too high above the knees etc. etc...get my point, RIGHT!!! One thing I don't do is suggest to others what they should wear! Whatever the LORD leads them to wear...who am I. There are pants for women and pants for men!! I was brought up in the COGIC faith and thanks be to GOD for some sure enough WISDOM which cometh from above!!! I remember the ism...make-up, lipstick, you were doomed for hell!!! Time for the body of CHRIST to unite together and concentrate on SOULS for the Kingdom and let our LORD and Savior...do the REST!!!!
shalom to ALL!!!!
