Should a pastor that spends most of his time preaching and teaching get paid for what God has him to do? I know what the scriptures says about this, but would you pastor for free?

Preach and teach Evangelist Jones. All I can say is AMEN! Tell it like it is.
Good points Evangelist Jones and I don't necessarily disagree. I just don't think the focus should be on money either way because it presents a snare. Some ministries provide valuable services to the community and the Pastor may not have time to find a job outside of the church because it would hinder the work. Also you have be to careful or potential conflicts of interests. I really think the question can't be answered universally it is based on case by case situations. I give you an example. With all TD Jakes does he would be foolish to work outside his ministry. Just my humble opinion....
I totally agree with you there Pastor
Be careful of who you do comparisons with also. Just because it looks like it's of God doesn't mean it is. Evangelist Jones comments only present a snare to those that are prosperity minded. If a ministry is being fed to do the ministry, so be it, but if it's to put money in the ministers pockets and the excuse is so I can do the ministry, I don't buy it and won't pay for it. But we know to each their own. We all have our humble opinions and that's all they are Brother Henderson.
note taken on the comparision usage. I was just trying to use someone we all knew.
God bless
Please dont' take it wrong Rev Henderson. My point is just because one has a mega church and filling up pughs doesn't make one to be called of God. There are many in the pulpit not called by God. There are many we all know that fits that. Doesn't mean we don't pray for them either because we should be. It's never a good feeling to expose those that are wrong. God bless you always.
So Evangelist Jones, are you saying that Apostle PAul was in error for his statement in 1st Corinthians 9?
You are beating your head up against the wall Evangelist Jones! I mean this not to be disrespectful at all. If you can go back through all this thread you will see what you are saying has been said and prosperity preachers/teachers still try to twist the Word of God to say "we should get paid and taken care of by the flock." They take one verse at a time and use it for their own need. The main problem is most flock don't study for themselves and just dust of the bible on Sundays and allow MAN to teach them instead of picking up the Word every day and allowing the Holy Spirit to teach them. It's the flocks responsibility to read and study for them selves. The Word is of no private interpretation and 2Timothy 3:16 17 says it all. God bless you and may the Spirit continue to work through you to show them. My prayers are with you.
Bro. John, this is not necessarily so. There is a 5-fold ministry, so therefore, each of the 5 have a specific assignment to do. Among them are "Teachers". Amongst the Teachers are individual assignments to teach. You may not want to believe it, but God-given common sense tells us that all teachers don't cover the same subject in school! Also, if you want an accountant, do you call a heart specialist? If I need a dentist, I won't call my plumber and tell him "bring your plunger". Likewise, GOD has specific people teaching specific things from specific scriptures.

Its would be absolutely foolish for a person to think that all there is to the Bible is "Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead after 3 days and 3 nights for your justification". Thats the Gospel message. GREAT!!!.....OK, I'm saved, NOW WHAT?!?!?!

-how should I dress?
-what should I preach or teach?
-where should I go?
-what should I eat?
-how do I handle my finances?
-what kinda government is this Christianity thing under anyway?
-who created the universe and how?

These are just an extremely small portion of questions that are asked and all of them have answers found within scripture. If you just say "all you need to do or say is Jesus saves", then you are covering the Evangelistic job, but there is more to the Kingdom than that. You only mentioned a person getting their "Kingdom citizenship". Now that I'm a citizen, I want to know all about my benefits, as stated in Psalms 103, Deuteronomy 18, and other places.
Brother Trevor this is why I've tried to stay away from this because prosperity preachers will continue to talk the same way.

You are comparing carnal/wordly to spiritual things and that doesn't work on me and you should know this. The benefits are wordly or earthly things. Our riches and rewards are in heaven. You really do believe that God cares about worldly or earthly riches don't you? This is what I mean, prosperity preachers try to find any verse that they can use to say "we should be paid money". Find the verses that preach and teach salvation and God's Kingdom. Forget about money Brother Trevor. God knows how to take care of His servants needs. Just preach the gospel. Now explain (and then I"m out of here) your benefits you speak of in Psalms 103 and expecially Deuteronomy 18. Thanks and God bless you Brother Trevor.
Did you read it for yourself? I won't be accused of twisting scriptures here. Out of your LORD's mouth came these words in Mark 10:29-30

"29And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,

30But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life."

That's your LORD that said it, not me. I didn't write that Gospel, but Mark did. If this is so, then why on Earth do you come against my words if I claim such scriptures as well? JESUS claimed to be the Son of GOD and they hated Him for it. He then said in John 10:34-37

"34Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?

35If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

36Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?

37If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not."

Just because you do not agree with me, does not mean that you can excuse and exempt these scriptures from your life. If you believe the Bible, then believe the WHOLE TRUTH of the Bible spoken by GOD Himself, His Apostles, and His Prophets. If not, then do what you want to.
Once again do you understand what is meant in this verse you sent or do you always try to make something mean MONEY! Does Jesus say that NO MAN has done that for the gospel's sake. That means EVERYTHING Trevor. Have you left those things including wife for the gospels sake. Have you lost what Job lost and then repentance and restoration as in Job 42? So to you that verse means you preach the gospel and you get money? Come on Treveor I'm not going to keep going down this road with you. Sorry you take things personally but you can't take scripture out of context and try to make it fit what you want it to. It is what God says. By the way I never excuse God's scriptures but I do ask Him to give me His WISDOM, UNDERSTANDING AND KNOWLEDGE and take my puny wisdom, knowledge and understanding and put it on the shelve. Stop trying to understand it with your mind and let the mind of God give it to you. God bless you Trevor. I pray you make your money ok.
