(CNN) -- The boy writhes uncontrollably on the floor, but the church members remain calm, if increasingly loud. They're trying to drive a "demon" out of him. "You homosexual demon, get up on outta here!" they say. "You demon, loose yourself!" "You sex demon ... you snake!"

The shouts, the convulsions, the references to homosexual spirits -- they are all captured on a video posted on YouTube by the Manifested Glory Ministries. The video has sparked anger among gay youth advocacy groups and put the small church from Bridgeport, Connecticut, in the middle of an ongoing national debate on gay issues.

Patricia McKinney, pastor of the nondenominational church who describes herself as a prophet, said she has even been receiving death threats as a result of the video, but doesn't understand the outrage.
"I believe in deliverance, I believe in anointing, I believe in the power of Jesus," she said in a phone interview with CNN. "I've been threatened already, I've been attacked, and it doesn't make any sense to us. Really, what they're doing, they're putting me out there on the mat." McKinney says she doesn't refer to the events of the video as an exorcism, but rather a "casting out of unclean spirits." She said this isn't the first time that an event like this has taken place at her church, but it is the first one centered around homosexuality.

McKinney said the boy approached the church and told her he wanted to be a pastor, but was struggling with his sexuality. "We allow [gay people] to come into our church. We just don't allow them to come in and continue to live that lifestyle," she said. "God made Adam and Eve," she said. "He made a woman to be with a man, and a man to be with a woman."

Robin McHaelen, who worked with the 16-year-old boy at the center of the video in her position as executive director of True Colors Inc., a gay youth advocacy and mentoring program in Connecticut, said the video was taped in March. She would not identify the teen. McHaelen said she doesn't think the church acted maliciously -- but that's part of her problem with the video. The event, McHaelen said, reflects a culture and society that doesn't believe a person can be both Christian and gay. "That's what makes me so sad and so mad," she said.

"None of the people in this video were intending to hurt this kid," she said. "They performed this ritual in an attempt to rid him of feelings that he didn't want to have."

Scott, finally, we agree on something after all the disagreeing we did in the chat room! LOL! You made an excellent point here that I also considered while watching this video as a critical ramification of this young man's state after the "casting out of the demon." as you stated: What good is being "cast" out without the knowledge of knowing whom has delivered you. Without the walking in the power of His word and dilligently seeking God and working out your own salvation with fear and trembling, all the laying on hands and talking in tongues ain't gonna amount to nuffin.. The Ministry of "True" Deliverance is given throughout Scripture and bears upon the Church's responsibility in ministering deliverance through discipleship, pastoral care, etc., as well as the individual's further duty required to walk in deliverance. The test of true deliverance is best described in this passage: Luke 11:21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: 22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils. 23 He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth. 24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out. 25 And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished. 26 Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. And we wonder why most folx backslide and leave churches after they had a church experience and not a Damascus one. Excellent! Thanks!
Oh good, I should stop right there before I put foot in mouf...:)

(1) Does the methodology bring true deliverance?

No, this did not bring anything close to "true" deliverance. You can't help someone get free who does not want to be free- first of all. This young man was 15-16yrs old and did not know what was even going on. How do you spring that on him without explaining to him first what was going on. To do this to this young man to further her "ministry" was utterly ridiculous. This young man was on Tyra's show and from looking at that young man I can tell you from experience that he wasn't ready for that. She should have just prayed for him and asked God to keep him protected and open his heart and mind to understanding. Some of the things that are done in the church are more hurtful and detrimental to growth, salvation and deliverance than helpful and this I also know from experience.

(2) Were the civil rights of this young man violated?

I wouldn't go as far as to say that his civil rights were violated but I will say what she did was disrespectful and selfish. Just because there is no physical harm there is a such thing as mental and emotional abuse and what THEY did was mentally and emotionall and spiritually abusive. We always want to blame the devil for everything but the devil didn't do this- SHE did this and what she did was wrong. The church needs to start taking responsibility for the wrong it does and she clearly was wrong in this and should have taken responsibility.

(3) What do you feel will be the ramifications of this CNN interview against the Church at large by gay rights advocacy groups?

The church has caused itself to look negative in the eyes of the world. They want to "deliver" homosexuals but always fail to see the homosexuals and lesbians in the collars in their own pulpits and pews. If I worked with the Gay Rights Advocacy Group I'd had some great and damaging ammunition against the hypocrisy in the church when it comes to homosexuals. She even stated herself that she was a lesbian (which wasn't hard to believe seeing her attitude and demeanor) and having that weak man as her husband made her "deliverance" talk garbage. What she needs to do is be delivered from her sin of disobedience (being leader over her husband) then she can help "deliver" somebody else.
The ramifications of what she did is going to FORCE the church to deal with its "secret but open" tolerance and acceptance of homosexuality.

(4) Does the Pastor's explanations bring harm or hope to the ministry for unbelievers?

What she did was hurt the ministry of hope for those who want to be delivered. Would you want to be treated as she treated that young man? Calling you names? Putting her foot on your neck? Throwing water on you? Making a spectacle of your sin (weakness) for the selfish promotion of their ministry?
I saw the interview that this "pastor" did with Tyra on The Tyra Show (with the young man as well) and she looked even more foolish. Her and her weak husband sitting up there showing NO LOVE in how they spoke or acted towards others.

We need to come out of the clouds and see what the true issue is here- selfish gain.
