New Pastors: Advice for the New Pastors: The what "to do's" and not "to do's" on Day One

I remeber my first comments on the BPN was under Min. Lockett discussion regarding "My First Sermon." At that time I was like him "An associate minister, faithful, patience, prayerful, hard working, and preparing for the day when God's will would allow me to pastor a church. You hear the discussion all the time, "When I am a Pastor, I will do this and that. We dont covete the position but we see ourselves preparing for the opportunity. Well, my season is here. After prayer/fasting/listening I recently accepted the Letter from a church to Psator. Words can't describe how I have been feeling. I'm careful to request to stay in God's mercy, remain humble, listen twice before speaking once, trying not to fix things that are not broken, (that is another discussion) learning names, praying frequently, and teaching/preaching. Every Pastor who I know has called, emailed, & texted congrats but I'm looking for advice from some of the experience members of BPN to begin a discussion of advice to new Pastors. I would rather learn from others mistakes than make them. School can prepare you but on day one, life experinces re-train you. by the way, all those ideas you had racing through your mind before you became a Pastor seem to exit on day one. I would like to hear your advice to New Pastors. I have always been one to recieve advice and learn from it.

the best advice comes from the best teacher, the holy ghost.....with every church there is a new set of church folks.....there are no two churches that opperate the exact same way. but the holy gost remains the same with the holy ghost you are taught how to handle each group of church folks accordingly.....and i call them church folks because i have learned that many possess a form of godliness but deny the power thereof.....i am on the rise for the real saints of god looking for more than an experience but for those looking for regular intimacy with jesus.....
Pastor in my experience I believe one needs to be in constant communication with God. You also should have someone that you know there counsel is good. Preach the good news of the gospel. Please don't scatter the sheep with self purposed ambitions. If your Sheep go astray go after them until you know that you know they are not coming back. Jesus left the 99 for 1, that 1 was as important as the 99 was important to him. Be accountable. God bless you in Jesus name.
You should get to know your flock (not as friends and be buddy...) be biase in everything even when people come telling you about other people nip it in the bud quickly!!!! Understand and know your territory and don't say yes so quickly to everything there's nothing wrong with telling people to wait til you have heard from God. People will test you to see what type of person you are.. but most of all BE STILL AND KNOW ITS GOD!!
It's all about not fashioning your sermon to 'modern want.' The 'entertaining preachings' are just turning sinners into impenitent, adamant, hardened sinners! If you would stay on course and allow the Lord to lead as you follow, I am sure His plans associated with your call through the ministry will become established fact!

Secondly, do not cease to pray and give yourself to learning more about His (Jesus) until you grow in every way to Him!

The best bit of advice I have recieved as a young pastor is to spend the first few years preaching and teaching and getting to know your flock. As of right now, your not their pastor, you are their preacher, and that's even if you grew up in the church or a long standing member.

Find out as soon as possible who thier "pastor" is. The one that they are listening to in the interim. Get to know him and win him. You win him, you'll start to be their Pastor.

And don't rush. It a long haul - be true to God's Word as best as you are able. Be prayed up and be as real as you can.
Thank you Rev. Charles for these insights on new pastors! My suggestion is that we let the Lord Jesus Minister to us
in our prayer, study or quiet time, then in plain language relay the same to the Church, Jesus likes to have vessels for His use. This has worked for me, and like you I never stop asking for guidance from the big brothers and sisters in Ministry.
Just keep your hand in God's hand. And let the people grow on you. People have to know you, they know of you. But know you is to trust you, they have trust your call and your leadership. And that takes time. God speed wish you well.
be careful on who you let come to preach in your church make sure they are bible base and dont get someone just because hes your friend make sure God puts that pastor on your heart to come feed your sheep
The advice i have to give is not of my own learning/experience but from that of my Bishop who has gone to sleep in the Lord.
1- Be the one preaching in the pulpit you have accepted as much as possible for the first couple of years. Get to know
your pasture and the sheep in it.

2- Let your vision grow with the church, Once God gives you a vision for the ministry give it back to him and let him give
the provision as needed. Dont Rush remember "He that has begun a good work in you will see it thru till completion".
Even if you dont see the vision come to completion as you would like Know that ministry is about one planting one
watering and so on...

3- Stay fresh, never forget those that come to church are looking for a fresh word, one that is relevant to the current day.
Just cause "you" learned it that way in sunday school does not mean it will work today. Stay before God let him give
you the basis and let the Holy Spirit guide you for the day. Study to show yourself approved that the spirit may bring
out that which is in you.

I hope that you wefre blessed by this
Pastor Moore,
I'm preparing to enter the ministry myself, but as someone who is a layperson,I would say just preach the unadulterated word of God,don't be swayed,by the opinions of man, remember who called you,it was God,and just know that most of us appreciate the truh of God's holy word, you'll bealright, and congratulations.
Hi, do not share any personal information with lay people.
Love the people, but keep Christ as your best friend.
Spend the first year observing how they conduct the business of the church before you change anything.
Pray, pray, pray, pray, pray.
I became too friendly with one of the parishioners and then found out that she was a backstabber. She tried to gain my trust, only to be in kahoots with a group of members who wanted to run the church.
Be careful! Protect your family.
Always be available to them. Call them when they are sick and visit them if you are near. Introduce yourself to the community. Send flyers, if possible strart a free website for the church at www, netministries. org.
much success to you!

remember moses, and the way GOD led him, he led way more people then any one person could, in this day and time. with the people crying to go back in bondage, and that they had enough manner(etc...)
my advice to any new pastors would be this; keep your eyes on christ and what he says GOs!!!!!!!!!...
not to be so zealous in your own way of doing/ nor any one elses zeal....waite on the voice of GOD even if you feel stupit in the eyes of others.. don't try and impress any man, just please GOD.
prov 3;3-5 this really works.
