Should a pastor that spends most of his time preaching and teaching get paid for what God has him to do? I know what the scriptures says about this, but would you pastor for free?

BLESSINGS ON U.WELL IT DEPENDS IF THE LEADERS HAVE A JOB THAT TAKES CARE OF ALL HIS OR HER FAMILY NEEDS. AS FAR AS THE CHURCH IS CONCERN IF IT'S A DEMANDING TASK THAT CALL HIM OR HER TO HAVE TO TAKE A FEW DAYS OFF FOR THE MINISTRY IT DEPENDS WETHER IF THEY WOULD EXCEAPT IT OR TURN IT DOWN AND THE FAMILY NOT BE IN A BIND.WE LOVE YOU ALL IN JESUS NAME.
I know this will get me whipped on here with all of the scholars commenting with all the Bible verses and interpretations but lets us a little common sense. The word is called reciprocity, what is given out must come back. I don't care who you are you want to be appreciated for what you do. If you work on a natural job you expect natural pay. If your boss tells you to work for free your not going to produce the same work. Some of you Pastors are so self righteous to not accept money from the church till you don't understand those people blessings are tied in with the Pastor (Ps 133) Just though i would throw in one scripture, lol! Listen you should get some compensation for pastoring and I don't really care what hypocritical statements you can come up with. Pretty soon for the time you put in pastoring, especially if you pastor a small church such as myself where you have to cut grass, paint, clean toilets, do flyers and all other things you want to feel a little reciprocity. Don't get it twisted I don't feel you should rob the church blind or take abnormal amounts but please people stop the foolishness and understand God is not going to put you in hell for accepting salary from your church
Pastoring is not a JOB it's a calling. Don't get it twisted. If you are pastoring just to have a job then it is highly doubtful that the Lord called you. Too many are pastoring expecting to get paid. What if you are a pastor in the middle of a poor village of people. Oops, many wouldn't consider Pastoring a small village of poor people because there's no money in it for them. I guess salvation is only for those who can afford to pay for it.

Cutting grass, painting, cleaning toilets do not mean that you are suppose to be paid. If you get your reciprocity from God then the reward will be far greater than collecting money from poor people.
you shouldn't take from the rich either..the gospel is not for sale.

God Bless
EW Ministries come to my community and see I pastor in a very poor community. in fact go to our website www.hobcogic.com and you will see we give back to our community. We paint houses free of charge, we give computers, appliances, clothes and other things away free of charge and we have a small congregation that don't make much money on there jobs. I have no doctor's or lawyers that are members of my congregation. Me and my wife have good jobs and that takes care of my family. I took nothing from my church for the first year I was there. The congregation had a meeting and decided that was not right and wanted to give me something. I take a small percentage of the tithe, which is biblically correct. The other percentage goes to our general fund to pay bills, our building fund, youth fund and community outreach. So nobody on here is not going to make me feel bad for getting a salary because my works speak for me!

Pastor Stanley You Said: I take a small percentage of the tithe, which is biblically correct. The other percentage goes to our general fund to pay bills, our building fund, youth fund and community outreach.

Taking tithes is not biblically correct. It is an old testament law that had NOTHING TO DO WITH MONEY AND YOU CANNOT FIND A SCRIPTURE TO SUPPORT THAT IT EVER WAS.

Malachi 3:8-10

Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say , Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
9. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
10. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
11. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.

Herein Lies the problem. Many are still living under the curse of the Law and have made Jesus Christ of non effect in their lives. Below are scriptural references concerning the breaking of the law to those who seek to be justified by it in ONE POINT. (justified as in keeping of the law to avoid the curse associated with not paying tithes, among other things)

Galatians 5:1-12
1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.
3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. 4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

Also, many have failed to study the subject of tithes. If you ask a Jew they will tell you the American Church has taken it way out of context. No one can show in the scripture where tithes was EVER MONEY. Tithes was always, crops, livestock, etc. and was taken for certain people during certain seasons. (Levites, Orphans, Poor people and Widows. The Levites also had to tithe a tenth of what was given to them to the priest) You will not find a new covenant scripture where tithes was meant to take care of Pastors. NO WHERE. Somebody’s preaching another gospel.

If anyone dares to do a study on tithing you may be shocked to find out that you are binding yourself to the LAW and are no longer under grace. Jesus nor his apostles dealt with tithes and the issue of giving is also very shocking. It may be interesting to know that Christ may ask you to give all not just 10%. Although, the laborer is worthy of his hire that is not referencing tithes, nor should a preacha (preacher) be paid $100,000 per sermon. That is absurd!!!! When Jesus said to give all, he also said that it should be given to the poor. That part is left out by modern day Preachas (preachers) Most don’t even care about the poor which is why they rob them in the first place.
The scriptures below will demonstrate how the apostles handled things and how we should handle things. Offerings were really meant for everyone not just the Apostles (preachers) and certainly not for them to get rich with zero accountability.

Acts 4:32-37

32. And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.
33. And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.
34. Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,
35. And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.
36. And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,
37. Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

HAVE YOU MADE JESUS CHRIST OF NONE EFFECT IN YOUR LIFE?? HAVE YOU FALLEN FROM GRACE??
stop taking scripture out of context ew ministries. One thing I do not want do is argue with stupidty. The law is still in effect, since you read Galatians go 2 chapters back and read chapter 3:19-29, then go back to Romans 7:7 and read about that. Christ is the fulfiller of the law, he didn't do away with it! But listen your the Bible scholar you know all the scriptures (have no clue how to apply them) but you know them. Funny thing is I showed you what I do but you didn't respond to that...what do you do, have you done anything to build anyone up or are you just a reader of scripture but can't apply it? I am not robbing anything or anyone and as I said before this is something the church wanted to do, it was not my idea. So do I feel bad or feel like i'm hell bound for receiving a portion of the tithe given...absolutely not and never will. Sure you will have some more scriptures you have taken out of context but hey bring it on. By the way if you read the entire book of Malachai it was talking to the priest who were accepting tithe and not paying tithe to God, by the way I'm a 100% tithe payer (just in case you wanted to dispute that)....Be Blessed
I agree, no one should argue with ignorance so I will let the scripture speak for itself. You said the law is still effect. But here is what the scripture says about those who are in Christ Jesus:

Romans 7:4

4. Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Romans 6:14
14. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

24. Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

25. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. (The law)

If you still feel that you are under the law, then you need to purchase some bulls and goats to sacrifice the next time you sin. We are not under the law, but under grace.
EW Ministries I pray for you, obviously you like to hear what you want to hear! No one said we are under the law but your trying to do away with the law and the Bible that you so ampially quote from says the law is holy, why because its from God! All I'm saying is Jesus is the fullfiller of the law. He didn't come to destroy the law. Its funny you didn't quote from the scriptures I gave you Gal 3:19-29 & Romans 7:7 because you can't change those scriptures...Paul is very clear and I don't care how you try to twist it the law leads you to grace, grace can't lead you to the law. Without the law you wouldn't know what grace is. Example: you come to a stop sign and you pull up...that's the law...STOP! No police are around you slow down but you don't stop a car comes from nowhere but you barely miss them, you throw up your hands and say thank you Jesus. The law didn't change or was done away with, it was in your face, you chose to break the law but it was grace that saved you from being in the accident. The law is your tutor to show you what grace is. That is all I'm trying to say EW Ministries, funny you go off on your tagents but want respond to direct things I ask...praying for you
