Is Tv Harmful?

 A young mother had a dream in which she saw herself at heaven’s gate with her husband and small daughter. The Lord let her and her husband in, but refused entry to her daughter.”She cannot enter here because she has corrupted her mind with television, ” the Lord said.

                A Large number of Christians are so found of this destructive agent that they spend much of their God given time with it. Abuse of drugs, wives and children; fornication , adultery and homosexuality; deceit disobedience and rebellion; killing, stealing and destroying – almost every work of the enemy is portrayed on the television.

               The founder of the church of Satan and author of the Satanic Bible believes that the television plays a major role in prompting his religion – “There are television sets in every home, every restaurant ,every hotel room, every shopping mall—now they’re even small enough to carry in your pocket like electronic rosaries . It is questioned part of everyday life. Kneeling before the cathode-ray  god [a reference to TV], with our TV guide concordance in hand , we maintain the illusion of choice by flipping channels… The birth of TV was a magical event foreshadowing its satanic significance… TV’s  infiltration has been so gradual, so complete that no one even noticed”

              Often Christians maintain the excuse that they keep a TV only to view Christian programmes. But a leading Christian commented – “The so- called Christian TV mocks real Christians who live a life of holiness…It is worldly and glamorous and its ‘gospel stars ‘ are a far from the walk of sacrifice , humility , and dedication God calls us to follow.”

             Christian who sit (and worship!) before this modern god have no time for the true, living God. Some are (willingly) ignorant of the fact that the TV has become their number –one god.  As we meditate on the Ten Commandments (Exo 20:1-17), It is shocking to observe that the TV often broadcasts programmers to break all the ten commandments:

1.       “Thou shalt have no other gods before Me” (Exo 20:3). Anything that is put above God is and idol. People spend more time on the TV god than on the true, living God. Then when they sit down to pray, the scenes keep flashing through their mind and they cannot pray properly.

2.       “Though shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain” (Exo 20:7). Abominable profanity and many blasphemous programmers are broadcast. Those who willingly watch it are partakers of the crime.

3.       “Remember the Sabbath day , to keep it holy” (Exo 20:8) . On the Lord’s day. People watch programmes on TV instead of keeping the day holy.

4.       “Honour thy father and mother”(Exo 20:12) . A  good number of TV programmes degrade fatherhood , motherhood and respect for the authority of the family , and magnify disobedience and rebellion against parents.

5.       “Thou shall not kill” (Exo 20:13). Many channels telecast killer- serials and many people have been instigated to shoot and kill after watching them. Recently a 5-year-old boy set fire to his house, killing his 2-year-old sister. He later said that he was trying to imitate what he say on TV.

6.       “Thou shalt not commit adultery” (Exo 20:14). TV programmes show adultery as if it were not at all a sin.

7.       “Thou shalt not steal” (Exo 20:15). After watching bank robberies and stealing on TV many feel inclined to do the same.

8.       “Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor” (Exo 20:16). False witnessing and lying is no more a sin but an entertainment , on TV.

9.       “Though shat not covet thy neighbor’s  house , thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife , nor his manservant, nor his maid servant, nor his ox , nor his ass , nor anything that is thy neighbor” (Exo 20:17). Coveting other men’s wife and other women is not treated as sin on TV. Even if you try to avoid watching such programmes, in the weakest moments of you life (remember, all of us have weak moments  in life), you (or your children) may be tempted to watch them and get defiled . If you keep a poisonous cobra coiled around your neck , and feed it with milk and honey , be sure, one day it will raise its hood and strike you- to death.

                       “Neither shat thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing ”(Duet 7:26). Can anyone think of a worse abomination that may be brought in to  house than the modern TV, which has destroyed millions all over  the world, morally, spiritually, and physically ? According to this text, it is not enough to simply refrain from bringing this abomination in to your house; you should “utterly detest it” from the depths of your heart without any compromise.

                       We are in the last days; THE COMING OF THE LORD IS VERY NEAR. Look at one sign of the last days – “When you see the horrible thing(told about by Daniel the prophet) standing in a holy place (Note to the reader : You know what is meant!)” (Matt 24:15 LB). Dear child of God , your house is definitely supposed to be a holy place . This  horrible thing has no place in your house.

                   Recently in a Christian home, while the parents were away , a 7-year-old boy was watching the TV. Suddenly a light came from heaven and turned off the TV. A voice from above said, “Will you not obey Me, My child?  Will you not obey Me?” Trembling , the child replied, “Yes , I will obey you , Lord.” Perhaps wile reading this, the Lord Jesus may be speaking to you: “My child , how long will you grieve My spirit and keep the TV set in your house? Will you not obey Me, my child ? ” Today , if your hear His voice , Harden  not your heart.
