Men and Women of God do you find yourself angry without a cause? Anger is an emotional state that may range from minor irritation to intense rage. Anger and aggression are controlled by the portion of the brain called the medulla oblongata. The chemical acetylcholine also helps regulate these emotions which when out of control can cause increased heart rate, blood pressure, and excessive release of stress hormones.
In the brain norepinephrine and serotonin are chemical neurotransmitters responsible for the transmission of thoughts and emotions. When these chemicals become out of balance you can become anxious, overwhelmed, and angry. This chemical imbalance in the brain can make it all but impossible to think and manifest the characteristics of the spirit.
Does anger have a dietary component? Yes! Acetylcholine is synthesized by the body from the nutrients Choline, lecithin and other co-factors such as B complex with inositol. Unlike some vital chemicals, there are no foods that directly increase blood levels of serotonin but there are foods that can increase its pre-cursor triptophan from which serotonin is made. These foods include nuts, beans, whole grain products and Omega 3 fatty acids which are found in salmon, tuna, mackerel etc. and protects the brain from environmental toxins. A deficiency in these fatty acids can promote increased aggressive behavior, emotional stress and depression. But Omega 3 fatty acids can reverse this process by alter your neurotransmitters.
Vitamin C is necessary for the brain to make healthy neurotransmitters and is found in citrus fruit such as oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruit etc. Iron is essential for proper neurotransmitter function, raisins are a good source of this nutrient. Green tea (bags) is a natural brain preservative and healthy substitute for coffee which can over stimulate the brain.
Saturated fat and Trans Fatty acids found in fast and snack foods clog arteries leading to your brain and heart. These foods as well as sugar, refined/enriched products (which deplete vitamin B1 stores) distress the brain and should be eliminated from the diet; but the foods mentioned above and their nutrients help keep your brain healthy, regulate negative emotions and help give the spirit man control in your life.
